P0497 is a diagnostic code that indicates a low flow condition in your evaporative emissions control system, also called your EVAP system. This system captures fuel vapors in a specialized reservoir until your engine is ready to burn them, using a system of hoses and tubes to do so. When you receive a P0497 code, it means that there’s an issue with the EVAP purge valve, which allows the vapors to enter the canister and also allows the normal engine combustion process to take place.
