The P0365, P0366, P0367, P0368, and P0369 codes have to do with Camshaft Position Sensor “B.” The camshaft position sensor (CMP) determines the position of the camshaft in relation to the crankshaft. This allows both of these parts to move in tandem and gives the powertrain control module (PCM) the information necessary to run the fuel injectors, ignition system, and anything else necessary within the engine.

More About the P0365, P0366, P0367, P0368, and P0369 Codes

All of these codes have to do with the Camshaft Position Sensor “B”, but they each give slightly different pieces of information.

  • P0365: Camshaft Position Sensor “B” Circuit
  • P0366: Camshaft Position Sensor “B” Circuit Range/Performance
  • P0367: Camshaft Position Sensor “B” Circuit Low
  • P0368: Camshaft Position Sensor “B” Circuit High
  • P0369: Camshaft Position Sensor “B” Circuit Intermittent

P0365 is just a general problem code that can trigger any time there’s an issue with this circuit. P0366 indicates that the range is either inaccessible or outside the range of accepted options. P0367 indicates that the circuit is too low, while P0368 indicates that it’s too high. Finally, P0369 indicates that the circuit is rapidly changing, generally indicating that it is sometimes connected appropriately and sometimes not.

What Are the Symptoms of a P0365 Code?

The symptoms of the P0365, P0366, P0367, P0368, and P0369 codes will often depend on exactly which one your vehicle is experiencing. All of these codes should activate the check engine light, but outside of this, there are many possible symptoms. It may include a general lack of power, hard starting and engine misfiring, or, in especially extreme situations, a complete loss of power while you’re driving or a no-start condition.

What Are Some Causes of a P0365 Code?

These codes have a wide variety of potential underlying causes. The camshaft position sensor may be faulty, whether because it’s simply failed internally or because oil has leaked onto it, damaging the sensor or its surrounding wiring, general sensor circuit shorts, or even, in very rare cases, a faulty PCM.

How Serious Is the P0365 Code?

The P0365, P0366, P0367, P0368, and P0369 codes are incredibly serious; they’re some of the more serious codes that your vehicle can run into. This is partially because the camshaft positioning is one of the most critical components of any vehicle, so if the vehicle is unable to access information about it, it’s likely to shut down entirely, causing you to be unable to start or run it.

Can I Still Drive with a P0365 Code?

Occasionally, your vehicle will still run if you’re experiencing one of these codes. However, it’s also common for vehicles to enter a complete no-start condition due to these codes. Even if you can still drive, you should avoid it as much as possible. A vehicle is more likely to shut down on the road while you’re driving when it’s showcasing one of these codes. Instead of continuing to drive with this code, contact an expert.

How Easy Is It to Diagnose a P0365 Code?

Anytime you’re dealing with something as critical and also detailed as the crankshaft or camshaft, the diagnosis process is going to be tricky. It’s difficult to determine exactly what’s causing this code because of how many underlying causes might be at play. Instead of trying your own luck, it’s best to hand the process over to an expert instead.

How Difficult Is It to Inspect a P0365 Code?

The P0365, P0366, P0367, P0368, and P0369 codes all tend to have their issues within the intricate areas of the engine, which means that inspection can definitely be difficult. The more experience and knowledge you have of your vehicle’s engine, the easier inspection is going to be. That means if you don’t have a lot of experience with your engine, it’s best to contact an expert to get help.
