Positive Review
No, it isn't a Chrysler Wrangler; trust me, that's a good thing. No, it isn't a Rogue, either. Or an Outlander. Or anything else that uses electronic proxies to replicate actual 4WD capabilities so soccer moms can gum up the left lane when it snows. Look, it's hard (tough), angular (distinct), unyielding (solid), and even dated (proven). The engine sucks down fuel like a riding lawn mower, but it also shoves all 4,300 lbs down the pavement faster than some "sporty" cars manage (to 60 in 7 seconds), hauls 5,000 lbs, and sounds pretty sweet under acceleration. And it's available (like mine) in a 6-spd manual. Did you hear that? AN SUV WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. Gotta love that. We've taken it on vacation with lots of highway miles, and while comfortable enough, it never lets you forget it's a body-on-frame SUV. I have the 2015 Pro-4X so it has JUST enough creature comforts to keep me happy, but it's honestly what I call "my analog SUV in a digital world." And that's why I like it so much. Instead of trying to please the lowest common denominator of focus groups, the Xterra is meant for a narrow audience that DOES things, GOES places, and NEEDS a more rugged vehicle than most. My dog vomited in the back of mine Week 1, and I drug a hose into the back seat and sprayed out the cargo area. Done and done. I like the Ford Explorer just fine, but I'd have been looking at a $75 detailing to clean that same mess up. So if you want a REAL SUV--and all that means--definitely look at the Xterra. If you want a road-focused crossover with a traction-control dial, this ain't it.
Critical Review
The vehicle is a decent value except for the engine ( I had to replace the timing chain and tensioners and lower pulley at 88,000 miles. The transmission needed replacing at 134,000 miles). This was despite good maintenance history and mostly highway and in-town miles.

I have been waiting for Nissan to come out with a new model. I guess it’s never going to happen. I have owned 2, my first one saved my son and his friends life, they hit black ice and flipped upside down and took out numerous trees. They were both over six feet tall, not a scratch or a bruise. I want another one!
1 owner, no accidents, like new interior, new battery, mechanically sound, regular oil changes. Classic! A must see!!
4x4, Spacious, easy folding seats, hard cover trunk and seat backs for rear seats. Roof rack with storage
Roughly 16 mpg combined
Bought my car about a year ago and I love it. Despite so.e minor issues and a few major recalls the vehicle itself is a good reliable suv/ truck.
I love the way my Xterra drives it's a good vehicle but when you have to do any kind of maintenance the parts are very very expensive this is the last Nissan I will ever own
With 165k miles it purrs like a kitten 😸. The car is reliable and easy to work on fun 4x4 off road truck/suv.
Lots of power, runs great, very reliable
Neat one brake light
It has five new catalytic converter’s replaced last year. That’s not a typo. They have five catalytic converter’s!
This car will take you where you need to go!
It's old, like me.
My 2011 Nissan Xterra is the second Xterra I've owned. I love this car!!! I am so sad because I kept hoping Nissan would start making them again, and then I would buy ANOTHER ONE! I am getting a new vehicle because I have a two hour commute each day to work and back and in Minnesota a lot of times the weather is sketch as heck. I'm an older lady who doesn't know how to fix anything, so I need a car that will give me piece of mind. My Xterra just turned over 200k miles which is why I'm selling it. It handles GREAT in the snow and on the ice. It is roomy and perfect for groceries, or camping gear. I can't believe I can't get a new one. :-(
Unkillable just do the maintance
Gas Mileage
Model:2012 Xterra 4proX Mileage :354000 Bought this Xterra new and never looked back. At 40K the exhaust manifolds cracked, went to a fence installer and had him reweld to seal. Other than that : 3 alternators, synthetic oil change every 6k, brakes every 85k, and suspension replacements at 125k and 250k,3 batteries. Not the greatest gas mileage but this is an off road beast. Best auto I have ever owned. My mechanic tried to tell me at 100k the beast would die, but at 350k we just laugh about it. If one comes across your sight at good price and its a 4proX jump on it. Can't recommend it enough.
