Used 2019 Nissan TITAN XD King Cab

The 2019 Nissan Titan XD occupies a unique position, offering the power and towing ability of a heavy-duty full-size pickup with fuel efficiency and affordability more akin to that of a half-ton truck. With its robust frame and available 5.0-liter Cummins turbodiesel engine, the Titan XD straddles that line between a half-ton and 3-quarter-ton pickup. But if you study the specs, you’ll see that a new Ford F-150, an obvious competitor, is rated to tow more than this Nissan.

Forget the notion that big trucks are clunky and unwieldy. The Titan XD is an easy everyday machine, provided you don’t have to park frequently in tight parking lots. It’s quieter than you might expect, and even the available 5.0-liter turbodiesel V8 is sometimes tough to hear with the windows down. Luxury abounds inside, where the XD is handsome, though perhaps not quite up to par with luxurious new pickups such as the Ford King Ranch or Ram Laramie Longhorn. With its heated and quilted leather seats, its 360-degree Around View monitor, standard Apple CarPlay and new 7-inch touch screen, the Titan makes life comfortable and convenient. Sure, it’s a large Nissan pickup truck, but you quickly get used to it. And the Cummins turbodiesel V8 offers plenty of torque for towing. In testing, the diesel XD had no issues pulling a 9,500-pound trailer.

Although the 2019 Titan XD is a tough and rugged truck, it has available features sure to please the most spoiled pickup buyer. The top-level Platinum Reserve trim model exudes luxury, what with its heated and cooled leather seats, its open-pore wood accents and aluminum doorsill plates. In one of the most attractive XD interiors, wood trim is complemented by rich-looking seats, dash and door panels, all done in black and cocoa brown. Features such as hands-free text messaging, navigation, NissanConnect with mobile apps, Bluetooth, and a 110-volt power outlet enhance daily drives or cross-country trips.

While some folks think the XD doesn’t have a unique, highly individual appearance, it nevertheless looks tough and draws plenty of attention. The front overhang had to be extended to accommodate the Cummins turbodiesel grille, the intercooler and the extra battery, and it’s clear to us that Nissan engineers prioritized aerodynamics to maximize fuel economy. Note: Most new XD models come standard with an integrated gooseneck hitch that has been updated for 2019 with a plug inside the bed.

CUMMINS TURBODIESEL V8
Cummins builds some of the best diesel engines in the world, and the 5.0-liter turbodiesel V8 in the Titan XD is no exception. With 555 lb-ft of torque, the Titan XD is locomotive-like in its ability to tow and haul, and it gets slightly better fuel economy than its gasoline-V8 counterpart.

AROUND VIEW MONITOR
Nissan’s Around View monitor provides a 360-degree view of the area outside the truck. This feature is not only helpful when parking but can be useful in the wilderness by showing low obstacles in the Titan’s path or when hooking up a trailer without the assistance of a spotter.

While a warranty isn’t necessarily standard “equipment,” it’s important to grasp that all Titan XDs have a great bumper-to-bumper protection plan that lasts a segment-leading five years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Protection of another kind (occupant) is provided by frontal and roof-mounted curtain airbags, plus seat-mounted side-impact supplemental airbags, all standard. Also standard: hill-start assist, aluminum step rails, 17-inch steel wheels, a lockable tailgate and a very thorough gauge package. Other standard fare includes a hands-free, text-messaging assistant, 6-speaker stereo and USB ports (there are now two for 2019), plus steering-wheel controls, cruise control, Bluetooth, rear reading lights and NissanConnect with mobile apps. All XDs except the S have standard skidplate protection.

The 2019 Nissan Titan XD is sold as an S, SV, PRO-4X, SL or Platinum Reserve model, with two cabs, three bed lengths and 2- or 4-wheel drive (2WD, 4WD). The Cummins V8 turbodiesel, built in Indiana, is the most significant option. Other notable options include 20-inch wheels, a spray-in bedliner, integrated gooseneck hitch and trailer-sway control (both standard on all but the S), a 110-volt outlet in the bed and a trailer-brake controller. Extendable, heated auto-dimming tow mirrors are also offered. Inside, Titan XD buyers can opt for heated/cooled leather power seats, 12-speaker audio, satellite radio, navigation, Siri Eyes Free and a DVD entertainment system.

Two engines are offered in the Titan XD: a direct-injected 5.6-liter gasoline V8 with 390 horsepower, or an optional 5.0-liter Cummins turbodiesel V8 that puts out only 310 horsepower but churns out an earth-moving 555 lb-ft of torque. While the gasoline V8 mates to an 8-speed automatic transmission, the diesel employs a robust 6-speed automatic. Since the Titan XD has a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of more than 8,500 pounds (the maximum the truck can weigh, including payload, people and fluids), its fuel economy is not rated by the EPA.
