Positive Review
With under 1,000 miles on the odometer the NV is almost everthing promised. Since Nissan doesn't post MPG on commercial vehicles I thought it might be helpful to oters to know that my NV2500 SV with the 4.0 V6 gets between 16- 17 mpg (better than my 5.4 F150 Supercrew) with a mix of local and highway miles. The interior is very nice compared to the E150, although, if you're alergic to plastic you're in trouble. The reason my "Value", "Quality," and "Overall" ratings are 3's and 4's relate to exterior fit and finish. If you are considering buying one of these vans be sure to check the finish on the roof. While watertight, spotwelds are visible on the roof (through the paint), seams in the various sections of roof look a little "forced", and locations where the roof rack brackets attach to the roof (on my van) are down-right sloppy. There are large amounts of what appears to be the sealant "goop" spread throughout the channel containing the roof brackets, and this entire mess is painted over. While functionally the roof does it's job, and because of it's out-of-sight it may not be a big deal to some buyers, but it just seems sloppy for a new vehicle. Hopefully Nissan will address these quality issues. The final issue relates to any new vehicle I suppose, but, be sure that any options that you want on the vehicle are installed at the factory not by the dealer (if possible). In my case, I wanted the rear door glass package and shock-sensors on the van, and was told that they could be added later (they would arrive in "about 2 weeks"). Well, after 3 weeks they are still not available, and it is unclear when they will become available, at what price, and whether they will be as good as the factory installed options (i.e.,whether or not the windows will have defrosters, etc.). All in all I like my NV. Once the options I want are installed it should serve it's purpose for the next 8- 10 years. We'll see...
Critical Review
My wife and I purchased a used NV-2500 van that had been converted by Roadtrek into a campervan. On our first long trip the water pump and thermostat failed. We were on a section of the interstate with no shoulder so had to drive (slowly) to the first exit, about 3 miles. In that short time the engine blew the head gasket and destroyed the entire engine. Nissan will not stand behind there product and I am forced to purchase a new engine out of pocket. Not happy with Nissan customer service or support and honestly would not recommend the van to anyone.

Work Horse
Could be longer
Just make sure it’s been taken care of. Mine has 180,000 on it purchased it September of 2015 I use mine for my nails, staples and Screws business. I haul on average 2000-4000lbs. It has never let me down not even once! I paid $31k out the door and I’m really distressed that they stop making them. I’m even more distressed that the only real choice is a Sprinter that’s $70k :(
we bought it new and still have it it is the best of the hundeds of vehicles i have owned i wish the still made them
The BEST (and only) Panel Truck on the market!
Height sometimes limits drive thru access
Don’t let anyone call your NV3500 Hi-Top “a van”. With nearly 2 tons (yes nearly 4000 pounds of cargo capacity) the NV3500 is a highway hauler. I’m a retired trucker and I like the flatter windshield, basic seating position and overall visibility factor. So many modern pickup trucks have vision distorting curved windshields and large vision blocking A columns, this is NOT the case with the NV3500. We’ve traveled through some of the highest mountains in America and NEVER experienced a lack of power. We’ve used our NV3500 Hi-Top for camping, cross country travel, material hauling (stone - lumber - etc.) We have shocked the Home Depot crew when we assured them they could easily load a full skid of cement blocks with the lift truck. In the mountains, the manual finger tip shifting feature is a plus climbing AND descending. Again, this a panel TRUCK with a full length steel frame. I recommend the factory tow package and eTrailer has “plug and play” trailer brake controllers that easily install in just minutes. On the Nissan NV forums you’ll note a front shimmy issue under hard breaking. It is DIRECTLY related to the front tires. It is NOT rotors, wheel balance and all of the other R&R suggestions. YOU NEED NEW FRESH FRONT RUBBER! You’ll find a BIG difference in MPG as soon as you exceed 60 MPH. The plus is, when you let off the throttle, this monster slows down fast! So the money you save on brake pads and rotors simply goes into the fuel tank! Big Thumbs Up from a retired trucker!
Work Horse & Comfortable
Noisy V8 at idle
i bought this van used a year ago for my Shuttle service... Very, Very Impressive!! I hauled 12 people with a loaded cargo trailer behind... that V8 is a Beast!! Its still running strong! The 5.6 V8 at idle has a slight tap... Nissan Mechanic said they are noisy engines and its running fine.
Reliable as a Toyota
Wish it had more room
What a work horse.... Best cargo van I have ever owned..... Love it just wish they where longer like the long wheel base sprinter... Wish it was a diesel too.... But by all means it's a solid vehicle.... I own the v6 currently 200k on dash I got more than what I expected.... And I would Definitely buy again if they come back with a long wheel base more room and dually with a diesel.... It would be a dream vehicle
Does the job of transporting large groups
What I said about catalytic converter. It’s bad!
We bought this van in 2013 after our 2009 suburban gave us nothing but heartache. Many miles of trouble free driving. But before you buy one of these, know that there are 3 catalytic converters. The one’s in the manifold are prone to fail. When it happens, it’s $2600.00 to fix. Nissan knows it’s a problem so we called Nissan customer care and got some money back. If it happens after 70k miles you will not get any discount. Our’s went out at 63k and they only replaced the bad manifold’s cat. So I have to worry about the other side going bad on a long trip. That is not fun, basically ruins your vacation especially when you hear $2600.00 to fix and 3 days to get the parts and fix. Mechanic blamed me for purchasing cheap gas. I think that’s an excuse for shoddy engineering. I guess it was what they had to do to get it to pass 50 states emissions. Exhaust gases are extremely hot right when they leave exhaust ports. That’s where the cat sits, so it has extreme temp changes between engine running and not. Which equals wearing out before 100k. Mine looked like a gray rock stuck in manifold, supposed to look like a tiny honeycomb for exhaust to pass through. So it ran very badly this way.
Built for my business. Feels well built. Great war
Wind is the boss on the highway
I love this van! It's ugly as sin, but it is the best work vehicle I've ever owned. The seats are very comfortable. Tons of room up front. I can stretch my arms straight up and wave them around. Bluetooth is easy to use. The center console is HUGE and it locks. There is also overhead storage in the front. It's rides smooth for a big work vehicle (drives just as nice as my wife's suv.) I'm 6'1" and wear work boots, I can stand up straight and walk around in the back. Gas mileage is between 12-14mpg, that's with it weighed down with tools and equipment, and a ladder rack with a 28ft extension ladder on top. It's easy to back up and park (thanks back up camera.) The a/c freezes me out in the summer and heater roasts me in the winter. I've had no issues towing a trailer with it ( I can't even tell it's back there.) The long front end makes the engine completely accessible, nothing is under the dash. It drives well in the snow. 2 years ownership and 25k miles, no issues yet. I'm very happy with my purchase. Also helps Nissan has a contractor incentive that threw in the shelving in the back and the bulkhead divider (saved me a couple thousand.) I use it everyday, well worth the money.
Good for long road trips when engine operating
