"Nissan Got it Right with the New 2015 Murano"

I was wowed by the styling of the new Murano and traded in my 2012 SL Murano for the 2015 Platinum version. The interior is absolutely beautiful, comfortable and full of all of the latest safety electronics available. The ride is smoother and quieter than the older model. The panoramic roof actually opens fully as opposed to only about 2/3 with my old Murano. Fit and finish are perfect. I have only 3 minor issues with the new Murano. The first is that automatic windshield wipers are not offered on this car (I had this on my 2012). The second is that although there are 5 programs available through Nissan Connect, this vehicle can only use 1 while an Altima can use all 5. Third, which Nissan has agreed to rectify, is that the 2015 Murano is delivered with a 2013-14 version of the Navigation Map. I had already updated my 2012 to the 2014-15 Map before I traded it in. As of now, the updated map is not available for the 2015 Murano. Nissan has agreed to reimburse me for the cost as soon as it is available and I purchase it. Overall, it is truly a gem of a vehicle and I am sure I will enjoy it very many years to come.

Critical Review

"Technology Package Design Flaw?"

We have had 3 previous Nissans with no issues. Purchased our 2015 Murano SL in Aug 2018 with 28K miles on it from an independent dealer. It was a Nissan Lease return that was originally sold new 3 years and 1 week before our purchase. Within a couple of days of purchase, the Auto Brake light went off on the dash and neither the auto braking nor the cruise control would operate. Turning the car off reset the light and allowed us to use the features. We took the car to the Nissan dealership who inspected it and said the engine position sensor on one of the motor mounts was tripping the warning. The sensor is integrated into one of the motor mounts which the dealer said was wearing out and would cost $1100 to replace. The dealer said if we would have brought it in 2 weeks earlier it would have been covered under warranty (of course the car was stilled owned by Nissan Motor Credit at that time). This light only goes off after 20 to 30 minutes of driving, so a standard test drive may not reveal the problem. To make a long story short, I filed a complaint with Nissan USA stating they had a design problem in that the auto braking feature is a safety feature and integrating one of it's sensors into a part that is designed to wear out was a design flaw. After going back and forth with Nissan USA for several weeks, they decided not to assist in the repair or provide a new motor mount and told us we were on our own. The rep at Nissan USA acknowledged this is a known problem. Obviously, I am not happy with Nissan as this sensor should not have been mounted to the motor mount and their motor mounts should last longer than 28K miles. I have not replaced the motor mount as of yet because I feel at some point I feel this model will be recalled. In addition, this will be the last Nissan vehicle I ever own. I will be sticking with other more reliable brands from manufacturers who value my business. On a side note, I rented a 2018 Nissan Pathfinder two months ago while on a business trip and while driving it, the same light went off and the cruise control/auto braking stopped working. The two vehicles use the same drive train. This is not an isolated incident.

So far so good

I have been a loyal Toyota owner for over 25 years, driving Camry's and Rav4's. However, my last 2018 Rav4 SE, left me with a bad taste in my mouth. It was very reliable, and required minimal repairs, except for a battery replace, brakes and tires. It's the rough ride and road noise I could no longer take on the Rav4 SE. When the newer models came in 2019, I tried one out, and it was just as bad, do I held on to mine. In 2023, I went back and tried a 2022 Rav4 xle Premium, and again, felt I was driving a hay wagon, and the cabin noise was even worst. So I happened to drive by Nissan dealer, and tried out a new 2023 Nissan Rogue, which I liked the ride. They also had a 2023 Murano SV, which I decided to try out as well, seeing I was already taking up the salesman's time. The moment I sat in the Murano, I fell in love, and that love excelled even more on the long test drive I took it on. I purposely chose the roughest roads I could find in my town, and the Murano made it feel I was driving a Park Avenue Buick. The ride on the highway was so quiet and relaxed, and I never had to adjust what ever the radio volume I had set at in the parking lot. I went home thinking it may be time to leave Toyota, and try another brand of Japanese car. I was also quite impressed with the ride of the Subaru Forester, but the interior felt cheap to me, and very sluggish, in comparison to the Muranao. So I started to research the Nissan Murano online, to read the pros and Cons of the 2023. What I read online made me a bit leary of converting from Toyota, due to the bad publicity that tge Murano had regarding the CVT. After considerable thought, I decided to take the risk, because apparently the newer Murano's were less likely to break down. So far, I am still in love with my Murano, and have 24,000 miles on it, with 0% issues. I drive it nicely, and every once in while will take her for a hard drive to clean the cobwebs out of it, and I am really impressed with it. Is the car perfect ? Not even close, but one of them are really. They all have their pros and cons, and this Murano weighed in with the most pros, for what is important to me in a mid-suv. I am getting roughly the same gas mileage as my 2018 Rav4 SE, which is to say 32mpg on the highway, but the quiet smooth ride of the Murano is night and day better between than the Rav4. I plan on driving this Murano until I reach 120000 miles on it, and maybe even more, if it turns out to be that good of an suv. Time will tell, and if I start having major issues with the CVT or the 3.5L engine, I will come back and edit my current review. I am disappointed that for 2025, the Murano will no longer have the 3.5L engine, and will be replaced by a 4 cyl. Turbo. They are also replacing the CVT for a 9 speed automatic tranny for 2025, but the jury is still out for deliberation on those two major changes. Driven respectively, I am hoping the 2023 will give me miles and years of happy motoring....if not, maybe I will give Subaru a chance. Toyota need to step up their game in my opinion, regarding ride quality. The competition is getting tougher out there, so they 'all' better start sharpening their pencils.

‘23 Murano SV AWD
Pros

Smooth ride and very very comfortable

Cons

CVT transmission is not my favorite

Our family purchased a used Murano with 19k miles. It has been a great purchase. All wheel drive is amazing! We rode this the Georgia mountains to see fall colors and it handled beautifully. This is 6th Nissan product and easily the most comfortable ride I have had. The heater, leather seats are a nice touch!

best car buying experience
Pros

quite and comfort

Cons

none yet

Spent a few days looking for this specific SUV. found three but there between 120-300 miles away so I really needed to do as much online as possible. Narrowed it to two, One in Omaha ( 2 hour drive), one near Chicago ( 4 1/2 hour drive. was able to get the OTD price for both as well as good ballpark idea of my trade value. Both locations were very good at communication and no pressure sales. Omaha had the preferred color wife wanted. Salesman Casey was extremely professional in all aspects of sales. No pressure, always available to answer questions, making sure this is the correct vehicle for us. In 35 years and several vehicles purchased this by far the quickest and no stress sale. This was From Woodhouse Cadillac in Omaha

Love my Murano

Had two Altimas, moved up to the Murano SV in 2019, took two cross country trips and at 140k mostly maintenance free miles (other than the normal oil, brakes, fluids etc) traded for a 2024 Murano before the 2025 redesign comes out. Rides great a few more bells and whistle on the 24 SL than my 19 SV. Has everything I need and some. Room for a wheelchair when I take my dad out. Perfect for me, the wife and dog

My Murano Platinum
Pros

Design and Function

Cons

None so far !

I've had many, many vehicles in my collections, too many for this car freak to mention. I have tried an SUV years ago, 2010 Ford Edge, I disliked it intensely It drove like a truck, terrible on fuel ⛽️ 😕, then the rear chrome wrapped tail lights looked like they came from Canadian Tire! I bought it online, from a trusted dealer, but I should've spent more time looking at it for the inspiration I usually get when purchasing my next ride. This re-entry into a SUV is solely for ease of entry, but I have always liked the Murano, first design to newest! This 2018 is gorgeous in the blue, it did check all my design boxes, the v6 is powerful enough for my liking, the toys are included with the Platinum and when I look out the front window of our house, I'm inspired and want to go drive it! If you need to go to the SUV world as much as everyone has it seems, go Cool! This is the coolest looking suv on the road in my opinion, and the high quality interior is beautiful! Nice work Nissan! This may be my last vehicle, but if not, it'll be for a newer version of the Murano!

Blind spot in very back side window. Passenger front seat doesnt lower and sits to high,

We traded in a GMC Acadia Denali and it was the best thing we have ever done. We absolutely love our Nissan Murano. It drives and handle so nice. its quite and has lots of options. We had the denali package in our other vehicle and was very pleased with the Platinum package of the Nissan. Its an amazing all around comfortable family veihcle. roomy in the back seats for my long legged boys! Would definitely recommend this car.

Great Vehicle

The Murano looks great and performs superbly. It’s powerful, comfortable, quiet, and handles very well. Its suite of safety features is impressive. Even with the V-6 engine I get 32mpg on highway trips @ 70mph. City driving is around 24mpg. I’ve had no issues with the vehicle.

Overall good

I’m 6 years in purchased new and I have 40k miles never rotated a tire only had 1 flat which was fixable Michelin tire. Now just seeking assistance with getting new tires and brakes. Trying to see if I can get away with just changing front brakes and tire since that is the major issue.
