Positive Review
I bought this car with 5 miles on it at 21, one year out of undergrad wanting something reliable as I'd had a few beaters fail on me. Three words: Best Purchase EVER!!! I am so glad I bought this car and not another mid-size car that I was considering at the same time (Mazda 6). It was HUGE (I moved across country in this car alone--ok, to be fair, I mailed most of my stuff, but still!!). I moved from apartment to apartment to my home in this car. It got me through 8 great years that included cross-country moves, grad school and marriage. I never had any real issues with it. Other than regular maintenance, all I ever had to do was charge the A/C (I live in AZ) and replace the tires. I kept it garaged so I suppose that's how the exterior held up so well, but all in all, it was a fabulous car. I live in a small city with few highways and LOTS of slow drivers so I was truly through with the manual transmission, but otherwise, I'd always intended to drive this car to 10 years (or at least 100K miles!), mainly because I did overpay--who doesn't on their first car?-- I just couldn't do the stick anymore. I don't miss it because I love my new TL too. I considered a new Altima, but I just can't with the CVTs. I just want to say if you're in the market for a reliable start and go car that will run well and quietly, drive comfortably for 2 or 5 and hold 4 patio chaise lounges in the trunk (granted, they stuck out--just not more than 2' which would've required a flag), this is the car for you! Of course, make sure you get one with an owner who actually did some maintenance, otherwise it's really not the car's fault....
Critical Review
I wish that before I had bought my 2.5S I had known about all of the engine problems. Google the QR25DE Altima engine and look at the forums. There is a pre-catalyst recall - the problem can mean anything up to a new engine. But at least that is recalled, so covered by Nissan. The WORST issue in an 02 or 03 is the butterfly screws in the intake. They work loose and make their way into your engine and cause damage. They recalled this in 04 and 05, but it is the exact part as the 02 and 03, but no recall. So my car is at Nissan right now because a butterfly valve screw made a journey through my engine, but I have to pay for the damage. I love my car, but BUY THE V6!!!!!!! Incidentally, Nissan uses this engine in the Sentra and some Frontiers, so do your homework and don't buy a car with the QR25DE engine!!!!!!!

Roomy, comfortable, reliable, simple, easy to driv
none
Bought my 2002 Nissan Altima S in 2002. It's 21 yrs old now and I still drive it. For the first 12 years it required very little maintenance other than timely oil changes every 3k miles. I have never had a wheel alignment or any issues with the transmission and the first time the AC was serviced was two years ago! Tires have worn pretty evenly. Today the car still runs strong. Maybe I was lucky to get a good one or maybe it's lasted because I drive it easy. It's been an amazing car.
Fast fun good sound system
Continuous transmission issues, sunroof gets stuck
Car is ok. Bought it . within 2 years my transmission and engine blew, continuous cylinder misfires. Steering wheel alignment issues. Sunroof easily gets stuck. Unbalanced axel. Transmission fails to shift gears. When the car didn’t have check engine lights on, and it was ready to run, was a very fun and smooth car. Very fast. I had the 3.5 ze . Unfortunately had to get rid of due to continuous issues and continuous maintenance started to get pricy.
Good service and timely return of information. Would definitely recommend to new users. Really accurate estimate
The only reason I have rated it poor is that it needs to have the transmission rebuilt. Since we have had it we put have new had it we have had new tires on it, repaired or replaced the break cylinders and pads, and replaced the door and ignition lock as it had worn out and couldn't be depended on starting the car reliably.
Very good running car no issues other then oil leak that is located on top of the valve cover other then that car is almost perfect with the minor scrapes and scratches on the outside of the car.
I'm willing to trade in for anything that's the same value as mines , my car has no recalls or maintenance
