"Diamond in the rough"

The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is a great all around vehicle. Mistubishi means "Three Diamonds" and this one is a Diamond in the rough. Although not designed to be a rugged off roader, it will get you through a multitude of weather conditions safely. Having the 4WD lock is a nice feature for the heavy snow, and the 18” tires give better ground clearance. The options included with the basic price are phenomenal, and the warranty is exceptional. Since ditching my gas guzzler ‘97 Silverado, I have owned a Jeep Patriot, a Hyundai Tucson, and a Hyundai Santa Fe which over the long run have their flaws as well. We have a 2005 Rav4 (which I can’t complain about), out of all I like the Sport the best and look forward to driving it more so than the others. I like that I can keep the Sport in 2WD, putting it in 4WD or 4WD Lock mode when I need it. The MPG is great and its feels good not to spend two days a week at the gas station for a refill. Compared to the other vehicles I have owned the Sport sips rather than drinks. The 2.0L engine while not the fastest engine off the line, will keep up with traffic. In bumper to bumper traffic, how fast can you go anyhow? It takes awhile to adjust to the CVT transmission, however the Sport handles no different than any other vehicle. Yes there is a slight drone of the engine on initial take off but overall the cabin noise is quiet. The back seat is Ok for picking up guests to go to dinner or short day trips, but would be cramped for long distance trips. The storage area is large enough to carry a week’s worth of groceries. I would not recommend towing long distances but I added a hitch for the rare occasions to the home center for larger items like a few sheets of plywood, sheetrock or picking up garden supplies. The hitch will accommodate adding a bike rack for weekend travel. Folding the seats down gives a lot of cargo space. Perhaps the expert reviewers are looking to make the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport into something it isn’t. Keep in mind the Nissan Juke as a contender may have a little more pep, but you will be using premium at the pump. As a vehicle, if you have a large family, want a people transporter, or looking for brute hauling strength, this is not the vehicle you want. For two people looking for a dependable, stylish frugal transportation at a reasonable cost this fits the bill. Don't purchase a car without test driving it first. If your expectations of having the Mitsubishi Sport having the dynamics of a sports car, the road presence of a Hummer, a trail rating of a Jeep, the passenger space of a Caravan, the load capacity of an F150 and then complain it doesn't have enough power to pull out tree stumps this isn't the car for you. If you’re looking for more HP than the Outlander Sport, to me it isn’t worth the trade off in dollars, especially if it isn’t going to do any more than what I expect out of it. This vehicle does everything within reason well.

Critical Review

"Penalty Box on Wheels"

This vehicle is great for short drives, but very hard to sit in for long. The rear seats are for enemies only (forget about the 3rd row seat!). I need to trade mine in before the horrible drone of the engine drives me crazy. Otherwise it is a typical well built and highly functional Japanese vehicle.

My Outlander is very enjoyable to drive.

I greatly appreciate the 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander. It is a very functional and great vehicle. It has a good amount of power and still gets very good mileage!

Very reliable
Pros

Great in snow

Cons

Rides a little rough

She starts no matter what, the ride is a little rough but other than that she plows through the snow like a champ, handles good in the rain and at highway speeds. Is it good for long trips with the family, probably not but you sure could get all the luggage in without a problem. Honestly I would buy another Outlander in a heartbeat.

Dependable

I bought my 2013 Outlander GT new. Most dependable car I have owned. It's currently 2022 and it has 197000+ miles. We have replaced 2, O2 sensors, and the radiator because it was leaking at 180k miles. That is all. My only 2 complaints are that the seats aren't very comfortable, and the 3rd row seats are not useful. I have 2 dogs that I haul around. Plenty of room in the back area. It has a tailgate which is VERY useful and cool. Back seats are adjustable.

Worst car I've ever owned.
Pros

Gas mileage was good for a 4 cyl SUV.

Cons

Slow acceleration. Poor CVT Transmission.

Constant mechanical issues despite routine maintenance being kept well by me and the previous owners (who kept records and turned them over to me upon purchase of the vehicle). Finally, just before reaching 148,000 miles the transmission died out of nowhere. No engine light or any other indicator showed up until AFTER that car died. I will never buy another Mitsubishi again.

My favorite vehicle ever.
Pros

Practical and economical

Cons

Causes envy

I pray they keep manufacturing parts so I can continue to drive it for more years to come. I have been the first and only owner of mine and I have been extremely happy with it.

Good car
Pros

Drives like a champ

Cons

Leather seats

I have had this car for over 2 years and love it still. I lived in the mountains where it snowed and it handled like a champ in the snow. Every other car on the road was sliding while my car wasn't. It is comfy enough although I'm not a huge fan on leather seats its okay. I've driven this car on a lot of road trips down rocky and bumpy unpaved roads it did amazing.

Love my Mitsubishi
Pros

Great Gas Mileage

Cons

A few Recalls

I've owned my 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander for almost 4 years. I bought it used, with less than 100,000 miles on it. It has had some issues..recalls that got fixed, but it has just kept right on going. Looking to upgrade soon, but we are keeping my 2007. I've set my sights already on the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlanders because I'm obviously going to be a Mitsubishi gal.
