"Excellent car for category"

I want everyone to know about my 2000 Mitsubishi Mirage LS. It served me very well, 15 years to be exact. This car is like the Energizer Bunny. It never ceased to amaze me, this car, with its undying reliability! It took on 4 teens, and me driving quite a distance to college when it was new. It kept going long after kids grown and I went to work. I am sad to say goodbye to my long-time companion. I now have a new car, given to me by my son, otherwise I'd drive it 'til it wouldn't go anymore. It looks pretty rough on the exterior, clear coat mostly gone relatively recently. Everything, all power features, air, radio, CD player still works! I am giving the car to a friend in need. So glad I found a good home for it. I couldn't bear to let it go to a stranger. I have wanted Mitsubishi company to know about this car for years but couldn't find a site to report this to. I hope this gets passed on to the company. I'd gladly be a spokesperson for the Mitsubishi brand. Such quality and reliability. I know the company stopped making Mirage but did I just see an ad for a 2015 Mirage? Yay! I'd buy it!

"Great Car for the price"

I loved this car as it was my first vehicle. It got me there, it was pretty dependable in the long run, and if I had taken better care of it, it would still be on the road. Not the greatest luxury car you can find, but it was good for what was given.

Reliable, fun, Hope to own again!
Pros

Gas mileage, engine, reliability, handling

Cons

Timing belt, road noise

Let me start by saying, I’m young with low expectations. As far as the ride goes on the freeway road noise is slightly louder than you’d probably prefer. However, the steering, breaking and turn radius are far superior to any other Sedan from the 90s and early 00s I’ve ever driven. Power wise it’s got some pretty serious pep considering it’s only got a 113 hp 1.8 four banger in it. It will get you up to freeway speeds no problem at all! (I once got mine up to 120 with relieve ease!). Creature comforts include heating, air conditioning, tilting steering wheel, defrost, electric mirrors, cruise control, power windows and locks, a 6 way adjustable drivers seat, and two cup holders. Another pro is the satisfying factor of driving it, all of the buttons were fun to push, and all the dials and knobs were great to spin, the manual 5 speed transmission was geared magnificently, and the engine was the perfect volume. Complaints: The ONLY thing that took away from this car was the timing belt which is a pain to replace and ended up being the cause of my selling it, When It reached the recommended mileage to replace it (160,000 miles or so), I looked at how hard it would be to replace and when I saw how in-depth the process was I decided I would not bother to replace it because the car still ran fine, this was the biggest mistake I’ve ever made, 25000 miles later the check engine light warned me one last time but I ignored it and kept driving for 5-6,000 miles until it slipped timing. After that it didn’t run as well even after I did change the belt. The moral of the story is do your maintenance on time or you’ll loose a GREAT car! I will own another one of these someday

Very reliable
Pros

Great gas mileage

Cons

Sits low

This car has been in the family since 2000. It's been through a lot, including being totalled and rebuilt, yet it continues to have no problems. Despite having 170,000 miles it can still handle driving 70+ miles daily and gets around 28 mpg. I love this car!

Pros

gas mileage, reliable, cheap maintenance

Cons

Road noise, slow to accelerate

I bought my 1998 4-door Mirage used in 2007 with only 24k miles. Since then I have driven her on trips from from NC to Indiana, California, Missouri and Oregon. Never had a breakdown on the road or in town. The only money I have spent is routine maintenance. Cons: The cabin has a utilitarian feel. Loud road noise. Sun damage has taken a toll on the paint. Slow to accelerate, thanks to the 4cyl. Pros: excellent gas mileage, consistent performance, intuitive dash. Cheap maintenance and tires. Has handled snow well despite being lightweight. This has been the most reliable car anyone in my family has owned. Its nearing 20 years old and I plan to drive it until it quits.

Car served me well
Pros

Drives well, gas is ok, no engine issues, roomy

Cons

Body, low getting into,

As long as I owned the car I never had any major issues with it. It drives well, good getting a parking spot. Only complaint is the dings on my car, not caused by me, but from autos parking too close (like over the line) next to me. I just wish the car had a better body to absorbed those dings from happening. If this was available again and if the body was more rugged I would buy this car again. I had a lot of fun times with it.

Pros

extremely efficient, low cost, low gas milage

Cons

sits low, comfort is descent

I purchased a base model Mitsubishi mirage SE in 2001 and it has proven to be an exceptional vehicle. Conduct the basic required maintenance and this vehicle will last forever. This is the 1st Car I owned and very impressed with the performance.

Once it starts breaking its done for!
Pros

great gas mileage 33-36 hwy

Cons

floor heater never worked very well

I bought this car used with 124,000 miles on it. 4 years later it was still driving strong and had only ever had to replace 1 very inexpensive part on it (the front shocks). Regular oil changes every 5,000 miles and the single previous owner took very good care of it as well (I only know this because they were nice enough to leave the service record in the glove box for me). Once I hit 190,000 miles I found out that the car has 2 catalytic converters, and that the front one was bad due to a slow oil leak from the engine into the exhaust. replaced it, then 4 months later in broke again, was going to fix it when I also found out the transmission was starting to go. This was a wonderful car for a very long time with very few issues but once it started to break everything started to go at once!
