Positive Review
I have this car for a half year and it became the primary car in our family. Our kids, 3-year old twins love it, too. The car completely changed my way of thinking as owner and driver. Going to a gas station is now hassle to me. Range anxiety is non existent as I learned that I need to think just a little before going for a trip. If the expected distance is above 80 miles, I take our Jetta TDI, that simple. Very recently, I have taken my iMiEV for a long trip to test its range when driving up to 40 MPH w/o A/C. I was able to get 93.4 miles with 1 mile remaining. No need to reach for the hidden reserves. Cons: I miss the central arm rest. Also, the road and wind noise at high speeds is so strong, that it would be nice to have speed sensitive volume control on radio. The bottom line, no matter what your excuses are, the technology for EVs is already out there. My motto is: «I prefer to drive imported car on domestic fuel rather than domestic car on imported fuel.»
Critical Review
We adore this little car for past 4 years. Interior hauling space is amazing esp. when back seats folded (complete flat). No maint. ever and still drives like new after 5 years. Awesome bat. warranty (12yr. or 120,000 mi.). Fits 4 with plenty leg room (just no elbow room). Quicker off the light than most gas cars. Drive easy with no climate control and we see regularly 94- 105 miles per charge. Fast charger option charges it to 80% in 10-15 mins. Good 2nd car. Would never buy as a primary vehicle unless I drove less than 75 miles R/T. Thumbs up every where we go. Always cant wait when its my day to drive it!!!!

quiet, cheap, cute, low maintenance
range, narrow, tinny doors
I bought this new 6 years ago. After tax credits it cost me less than $10000. The electricity costs one to two cents per mile. I have only taken it into the shop for a recall of the air bags. No oil changes. Everything works. It is a tall, narrow car. The car is so narrow that the driver and passenger cannot buckle their seat belts at the same time, and have to take turns. My son is 6 foot two and the headroom is fine. The range is something to watch, but a half hour on a level 2 charger will get me home from anywhere in town. I don't go to the next town without a full charge. I did get 84 city miles on a charge once, which is quite a bit better than the rated range. I got 84 miles in a week when I did not need either heat or AC. It only charges at 11 mph on a level 2 charger. Most EVs charge faster on the same charger.
Best/Cheapest Commuter car
Not enough range for a 1-car family.
I love this little golf-cart of a car, and I think if reviewers kept in mind that they should only compare it to other vehicles in the budget AND EV space it would more accurate. If you're comparing it to cars that cost 3-6x what this costs, then you're not doing anyone any favors. - It's extremely cheap to buy - especially compared to other electric vehicles - It recharges overnight in my garage from a standard outlet. I put in a 220v so it charges in about 4-5 hours. Absolutely no maintenance costs so far at 3 years (except tires) - For 60 horse-power it's got great giddy-up. The torque on these EVs is wild and it's fun to drive for sure. - Electricity costs my about $30-$40/month and I commute 35 minutes, 5-days a week. That used to cost me $180-$210 in gas. - It's so quiet - on top of reducing fossil fuel emissions, you're also reducing the noise pollution. - People that don't need to travel far on a daily basis would love this car for it's simplicity and cost-savings. Things that I don't like: - The acceleration is pretty great, but I can feel Mitsi clamped it artificially - The overall insulation isn't great so the highway can be noisy and if you're listening to music, people outside the car can definitely hear exactly what you're listening to. - The range drops a good bit when it gets below freezing (as all EVs do) but this one loses more range than the fancier EVs. - It a weird shape, weird name, with a weird logo - I'm not sure Mitsi had their A team on this one.
practical, efficient, quiet, peppy, roomy, simple
not good for highway driving
This car is the perfect CITY car. Its compact size, great visibility, and quick EV torque are fantastic for running errands while not polluting the earth. My old car was a 2015 stick shift Mirage that I could easily get 50+ mpg and I still notice a large savings in gas and maintenance. It can haul a ton of stuff with the seats folded. It's a massive flat area and is almost like a small minivan. It's also very roomy because of its height and the large windows. I love how simple and no frills it is. These cars have gotten a lot of hate for their lack of range but for a lot of people who live in the city it is plenty sufficient. By far the biggest and in my opinion the only issue with this car is it is horrible on the highway, however it wasn't designed for highway use. Expect a range of 30-50 miles on the highway. It does not have cruise control, a top speed of 82 mph and when you drive over 65 mph it is almost scary with shakiness. Again, it was designed for city use tho. In summer city driving I can easily go 80+ mi. I drive a lot and I just plug it in when I get home and in the morning it's all charged and ready to go. I also love it's funky looks. It's such an unusual and odd shape and is refreshing in a sea of blah crossovers. Whenever I am meeting someone I say you can't miss my car it is the weirdest in the parking lot!
Cheap to buy used, no maint. saves 2,000. yr. ++++
Heat in winter suks needs 75 more miles range.

It IS fun to drive. Responsive and quiet.
Less safe rear seat. Shorter winter range.
Bought this car in July 2016, and we are still enjoying it 6 months later. It's nimble and quiet (except for wind noise at high speeds). On non-highway roads averaging 35-45 mph the range is around 80 miles. I use it for business trips averaging 30-60 miles total. Use of A/C in summer takes about 10 miles off the range. Use of heat in winter takes more range off, but still working that out. We bought an electric travel blanket to reduce winter range loss. Drivers heated seat is good, passenger side isn't as warm. On highways, it's most comfortable doing 60-70. The rear seat is not as rated as collision-safe as the front, and that's a negative. Quality is good. Nothing fancy, but everything works. We didn't buy a 240V charger; it charges overnight fine at 120V.
The best traffic navigator around, hauls big loads
Stiff ride and understeer.
The i-MiEV takes more than a ten minute test, or even a day-long drive to understand. Once one's mind has mended and can plan a whole day's travel, the car's range limitations are second-nature and you take advantage of electric torque at EVery stoplight, leaving all gassers behind, but drive more sedately on the highway to preserve range (though quick bursts to 82 mph are no problem). The car's 50 cubes of flat storage are awesome, as is the maneuverability and ability to climb over an 8" curb. More regen power per pound than any non-TESLA EV makes deceleration far more fun, with brake wear a forgotten concept. The i-MiEV is the little car that could, but very few looked up from their phones long enough to notice.
My IMIEV after 2 years, still the best car I ever had. My savings are simply ridiculous , considering that I can charge at work. I was expending around ~$300.00 a month in gas , which now I expend only ~$30.00 . So good , that we have 2. Clovi
fun to drive and no gas
limited range and depreciation
The iMiev is a great car that I truly enjoy driving daily. As i maneuver in and out of traffic, find the most incredible parking spaces and smile back at the looks and questions I get about the iMiev. Electric cars are the way to go and Mitsubishi has done a great job on building this one.
