Positive Review
I've had the Mini a little over a year now and have driven in summer and winter conditions. I got rid of the run flat tires due to the harsh ride and lack of traction in the snow. This is a little risky with regular tires since there's no spare tire. It's a great little commuting car and I am very pleased with the performance of the little 4 cylinder turbo, but it does require premium gas, however the great mileage offsets the extra fuel cost. I get 28 mpg commuting to work and more on the highway. It corners great - like a big go cart. The steering is sensitive - very little movement causes an immediate change. Acceleration is very sensitive too - a very slight change in foot pressure results in an immediate speed change. This combination means you have to really pay attention to what you're doing (i.e., driving is more demanding than relaxing). The instrument layout is different from previous cars I've owned, so there was a bit of a learning curve to get used to the differences. I had trouble immediately after delivery of the car - the engine would die whenever the fuel level got down to a quarter tank or so. I had to take it in several times before it was resolved - the tank has two sections and the fuel was not transferring from one side to the other. The dealer here in Colorado was very good at working on the problem until it was fixed. I'm currently having an issue with hard starting after a long (25+ miles) drive and making a short stop on the way home. It seems like a vapor lock issue which I will have the dealer look at soon.
Critical Review
I owned a 2008 Mini Cooper S (6-speed automatic) for 5 1/2 years. I ended up doing a trade in as I didn't have the heart to stick a private party with my problem. A problem from day one (with only 10 miles on the car): The driver's side power window was always flaky. On occasion if I'd close it, it would automatically come back down a few inches. After 30,000 miles the major/costly problems were: 1. Excessive oil consumption. It got worse over time and in the end I was adding one quart every 1,000 miles. 2. Dead battery. The dealer charged me $300. I was told they have to enter new info into the computer...you can't just buy a new battery and replace it on your own. I still question this. 3. At 33,000 miles, four new tires at the dealer...need run flat tires. $1,100. 4. Windshield replacement. A nationally known company told me with MINI they only use OEM parts because they have had too many fit problems in the past. $600+ 5. Two flat tires. Tire shops don't want to deal with run flats. Back to the dealer and their solution was to replace not plug the tires. Tires cost $275 each! 6. Carbon buildup, more than once. 7. Failed fuel injector. It filled #4 cylinder with fuel and fuel was actually coming out of the tail pipe. $1,400 Possible damage to the catalytic converter...ouch! 8. It ran rough after starting it in cold weather. On one occasion I got the low power light. 9. Numerous check engine lights, both red and yellow. NOTE: Red means park the car and get it towed. 10. Stretched timing chain. (dealer wanted $2,000 to fix it) After some research on the internet, I have since learned that the R56 Gen 2 Mini Cooper S, from 2007 to 2010 with the N14 engine is "problematic." Happy Motoring!

Visibility limited with the top up
Bought our mini new in 2012. It’s 2025 and she still brings a smile to everyone’s face when they see her. She’s been camping in the Keys and driven on the Blueridge Parkway. Just an exceptionally built car.
Fun!
Love ❤️ the car.
Oxygen blue with white stripes on hood. Easy to park in small spots. It is a very beautiful car. Roof is white, body is oxygen blue. Great condition. Only 105k miles. Single owner. I have every record of work that's been since 2007.

love the drive , handles well, takes turns great
back seat leg room not so great,
In great shape no dings, original top, interior no tears, real leather, black, Harmon sound, hand painted stripe on sides,
My 2013 MINI Cooper Hardtop has been rock solid for 10 years. I've had no problems. NONE beyond common maintenance, such as brake pads after 60,000 miles, windshield wipers, etc. - the stuff that you would expect to need to be replaced.
Nothing
Everything
I have spent almost as much money in repairs as I paid for the car. I wouldn’t recommend this car to one single solitary person.
Fun to drive, almost new tires, clean.
