Positive Review
Purchased this car new in Jan 1999. Have had it since then. This car has been the most reliable auto I have ever owned. It has the 5 liter v-8, auto with all wheel drive. Over the last 16 years the only repairs were. A. tranny repaired once ($400) -B. had the radiator replaced once, and have had the AC repaired once($400). THAT IS ALL (It now has 199,500 miles) . I have done tune ups, brake repair, fluid changes etc over the years. At this point it now has a rear main seal leak, and tranny fluid leak but not bad enough to require any fluid replacements between services (oil every 5000 miles and tranny every 30,000 miles. It is now used only as a second car or when we go to the high county for skiing in the winter and to the high country for cooler weather in the hot months. It has absolutely no value - I think trade in is only $200 or so.
Critical Review
It rides wonderful. Many options. In snow and bad weather very good on the road. Roomy and gas mileage is 17 mi/ gal. Looks great.

This car is the most reliable car I have ever had if I were to buy one again I would buy the 2000/the year model its my favorite and I would pay $90,000 for it that's just how much I love this car, the only thing I would say that it needs is a better sound system and yearly maintaining
Stock speakers are good even without the premium
Aftermarket support
Had one when I was 14 and keep it completely stock,it had around 370k on the dash but the miles gauge was broke or Stuck, ran perfect only didn’t start once but waited a minute and it turned on - if you think this thing will flip like some people say they do easily they don’t I had my 180 degrees sideways on two wheels when I was messing around in a ditch,my play time in that ditch was about 5 minutes but it probably wouldn’t of mattered the time because it got out and I drove it to school the next day and the rest of the year,I also jump a hill at around 112 mph,the old rear shocks broke in half but the new ones were only 40 bucks, parts are cheap the one thing I can say is the gas but the massive 21 gallon tank will last and if you aren’t planning on going 115 every where you go gas isn’t even that bad, I’m thinking about getting another one with low miles and doing a brown wire mod for burnouts and mpg-brown wire mod makes it only rwd but you can flip a switch and turn it back to full time 4wd,my advice——get one even if you would only drive it in the winter
Vehicle is still working. No tears in leather seats. 8 cylinder bought brand new and have never regretted.
Dependability
GAS HOG
My average miles per gallon on my 1999 mountaineer all-wheel-drive is about 14-16. I inherited this vehicle from my uncle in 2017, when it had 54,000 miles on it. At this age it needed brakes, water pump, the rear windshield wiper didn’t work, etc. I have been driving this car for 5 1/2 years and I have had very few issues with it other than gas consumption. Everything works well and it has never let me down in five years. It’s a larger heavy vehicle and I feel safe in it. Overall, I am very happy with my mountaineer and hope to get ANOTHER 5 years out of it! I give it 4.5 stars.
Fun to drive
Its a reliable ans has lots of power
Good utility vehicle
None really
I've owned this vehicle for 11 years. Maintenance thus far has been very acceptable as we use it as a 3rd car, driven mostly in the summer. My experience in snow driving has been very favorable, the AWD plows through the snow like it's a Jeep. Only negative is the poor quality of the door locks, replaced twice already in 3 of 4 doors. Decent MPG as car is driven mostly on country roads with few stop lights
When you need to get to new tires all 4 at same ti
