Positive Review
Traded a very nice sl550 for an sl63 AMG and it was not a mistake. The sl550 is terrific, but the engineers at AMG transform the already superb sl platform into something truly amazing! All of the luxury and refinement remain, while power and performance are increased, dramatically. Acceleration is cartoonishly fast, and the Designo interior is beautiful. The retractable hard-top transforms this world class coupe into a sublime convertible, and the technology is first rate. Also... 664 lb/ft of torque!
Critical Review
When we traded my wife's '08 SL550 we were talked into a four year lease on a new one instead of buying it as we intended. Financially it was an excellent deal. However, we are now stuck with driving this thing another 1 1/2 years before we can turn it in! Compared to the '08 model, this one is a disaster- the most poorly designed (apart from its sexy exterior appearance) and engineered Merc I have had in over 20 years of owning/driving them. Air flow over the bonnet invites rocks to hit the weakest part of the windscreen. Rims bend out of shape after hitting normal potholes- an expensive repair, including the matching tyres! Fuel economy is worse, despite lesser overall performance. I could go on and on, but you get the gist of my points. So, unless you're a guy looking to pick up chicks or a cougar looking for toy boys, find an alternative vehicle to drive and enjoy.

retractable hard roof
none
I owned the car for 6 years . purchased it as the second owner . It was a fun car to drive a great convertible Love the hard top panoramic retractable roof .
Have the cash for repairs. So far very reliable & problem free. Not meant to be a DAILY driver. Expect extreme attention on the road though. Can u handle it. High insurance too!
MY 2013 SL 550 GOT HIT ON MY SIDE LEFT DRIVER DOOR BY A 2021 CHEVROLET SILVERADDO HIGH SPEED! GOT SHOOK UP BUT WALKED OUT. TOTALLY SAFE AND SOUND! AMAZING STEEL BEAM ALL AROUND THE ROADSTER! SUPER SAFE! TOTAL LOSS. LOOKING FOR ANOTHER ONE! GREAT CAR.
MB quality and plenty of Horse Power
Wheels, tires, and OEM parts cost a little more
After owning numerous MB cars, I have found the SL550 to be the top of the line in performance and comfort. All the latest tech gadgets, and 0-60 times with the exotics. The SL550 has all the typical Mercedes S class ride and options. The Maclaren, Corvette and Porsche cars are great to put on a track, but not any fun for long trips. The SL550 is a great driver and with the MB quality that you expect.
Having bought this vehicle uses with 11k miles on it so far it's been flawless. The V6 produces plenty of power and the ride is smooth. Love driving it with the top down or up!
My brother bought a used 2017 Mercedes SL550 and it killed him by catching on fire and trapping him inside. Do not buy this car. It is dangerous and it cost him thousands to maintain it in the mere 3 years that he had it. Then he died in it. There was no collision involved.
Powerful, luxurious and beautiful.
Not cheap for 2013 models & newer.
The perfect droptop for an older, distinguished gentleman. I have a 2013 model, and that's when they updated the interior, improved the gas mileage and built it with an aluminum body. You can get older versions for a helluva lot less than the 2013 & newer models. But the older ones have extremely dated interiors. And I just couldn't get myself to compromise.
Best riding car ever
No noise at all.
The nicest car on the road every body just stairs at the car the whole time I'm driving it....only reason I'm thinking about getting rid of it is I have two kids starting college and I have to give my kids the best education I can.....
