Updated January 30, 2025
The 2025 Mercedes-AMG GLE SUV is a blisteringly fast, well-equipped, capacious midsize luxury SUV that sets a benchmark for the class. Pricing starts at $90,350.
The Mercedes-AMG GLE SUV comes in two variants, the GLE 53 4Matic+ and the GLE 63 S 4Matic+. The GLE 53 is a luxurious and fiercely quick performance SUV. The GLE 63 S turns the dial to 11. Despite their elevated performance credentials, these SUVs provide a comfy ride and scads of advanced technology.
In addition to being fast and luxurious, the AMG GLE SUVs are also surprisingly practical, offering segment-leading cargo space and seating.
We’ve spent hundreds of hours driving and researching the current collection of luxury midsize SUVs.
After last year’s updates to the infotainment systems, styling, and drivetrain options, the AMG GLE still feels relatively fresh. This year it gains a fingerprint sensor in the cabin and AMG crests on the front-seat headrests as standard equipment.
Also new for 2025 is the optional Manufaktur Signature Interior Package, which includes Nappa leather upholstery enhancements, signature lettering on wood trim, microfiber headrest cushions with embroidered AMG logos, and illuminated door sills among other equipment.
Three new Manufaktur Signature upholstery colors (Carmine Red, Truffle Brown, and Yacht Blue) are now available. Two new Manufaktur Signature exterior paint options, Cote d’Azur Light Blue Metallic, and Silicon Grey, also join the options list this year.
The 2025 Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-AMG GLE has a starting sticker price of $90,350, with the range-topping Mercedes-AMG GLE GLE 63 S 4MATIC kicking off at $131,950. But Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Pricing currently suggests paying $5,001 to $5,421 less than MSRP, depending on trim and equipment. These prices are updated weekly.

The 2025 Mercedes-AMG GLE is offered in two variants, the GLE 53 and the GLE 63 S. The GLE 53 is the more popular of the two thanks to its more approachable price and performance level. The GLE 53 is priced on par with its competition, which includes vehicles like the Audi SQ7 and BMW X5 M60i. The base Porsche Cayenne starts just below the GLE 53 and offers a bit less power, while the Cayenne S provides a bit more performance at a higher price.
The GLE 63 S is in a different category, competing against the lesser-priced BMW X5 M Competition, Audi RS Q8, and similar higher-performance SUVs.
Before buying a new Mercedes-AMG GLE luxury midsize SUV, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should be paying. Among its rivals, the Mercedes-AMG GLE delivers better-than-average resale value. Higher resale value translates into more money when selling or trading in.
Performance SUVs are tricky things, requiring nuanced balance between opposing forces. The Mercedes-AMG GLE pulls it off beautifully. Stable and responsive, comfortable and taut, planted and poised—the AMG GLE proves SUVs can be athletic as well as comfy and capable.
Speaking of capability, the AMG GLE 53 and AMG GLE 63 S can both tow up to 7,700 pounds. The GLE 53 can also accelerate from a stop to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds. The GLE 63 S achieves the same feat in a mere 3.7 seconds. Both models are electronically limited to a top speed of 174 mph.
The AMG GLE 53 models also come with standard AMG Ride Control+, an adaptive suspension system with an automatic lowering function. This system offers three progressive damping modes and makes the AMG GLE more aerodynamic at speed.
The AMG GLE 63 S upgrades to standard AMG Active Ride Control, which adds active rolls stabilization to the mix, improving cornering stability further without compromising ride quality in normal driving.
The 2025 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 and AMG GLE 63 S are competitive in their segment when it comes to fuel economy. The GLE 53 scores 20 mpg combined (18 city/23 highway), while the GLE 63 S scores 16 mpg combined (14 city/19 highway). By comparison, the 2025 BMW X5 M Competition scores 15 mpg combined (13 city/18 highway) and the Audi RS Q8 scores 16 mpg combined (14 city/20 highway).
Upgrades to the cabin for last year brought Maybach-level details like chrome accents on the air vents, upgraded ambient lighting, piano black trim, and more. For 2025, those upgrades continue to put the AMG GLE’s cabin at the top of the segment in quality, fit, and finish.
The AMG GLE’s cabin is also quiet (when you’re not tromping on the gas) and comfortable, with plenty of space for front-row and second-row passengers. The optional third-row seat is snug and best suited for occasional use by smaller occupants.
Aspects unique to the cabins of the AMG GLE variants include AMG logo details, distinctive trim and color treatments, and a significant upgrade in the standard feature set. Items standard on AMG models that are optional elsewhere in the lineup include the Burmester surround audio system, a panoramic power sunroof, and augmented reality navigation.
If you’re seeking cargo space, the AMG GLE is toward the larger end of the performance midsize luxury SUV class, offering 33.3 cubic feet behind the second row or up to 74.9 cubic feet with the seats folded flat. By comparison, the 2025 Audi Q7 provides a maximum of 69.6 cubic feet, and the 2025 BMW X5 Competition fits up to 72.3 cubic feet.
The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV’s 4-door, midsize SUV body received subtle styling updates last year, with new chrome accents, updated LED headlights, and revised taillights. For 2025, those changes carry forward.
New exterior paint options include the Manufaktur Signature options Cote d’Azur Light Blue Metallic and Silicon Grey.
Wireless Smartphone Integration and Charging
Cord-free means clutter-free and easy use of your smartphone alongside your car’s infotainment system, and with the AMG GLE, that also includes standard wireless charging.
AMG Power
The GLE 53’s potent twin-turbocharged V6 is ample fun, but if you can afford it, the GLE 63 S’s twin-turbocharged V8 is a handcrafted work of horsepower-producing art. We find that both are intoxicating.
Hey Mercedes
Mercedes’ onboard digital assistant, activated by the wake word “Hey Mercedes,” is a natural language voice recognition system that lets you control most of your vehicle’s functions with spoken commands. The system is surprisingly adept at understanding what you mean.
Burmester Audio
The 13-speaker, 590-watt Burmester surround-sound system (enhanced with Dolby Atmos) is a natural choice for those who demand the best listening experience. While it’s optional in the rest of the range, it’s standard in both AMG variants.
Powered Tailgate
A powered tailgate system with programmable height settings is standard equipment on the GLE.
Active Parking Assists
Another standard feature, the Active Parking Assist helps drivers park in perpendicular and parallel spaces by controlling the steering.
The GLE 53 gets a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine with hybrid assist, making 429 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes-AMG says the GLE 53 accelerates from a stop to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds.
The GLE 63 S gets a handcrafted 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine with hybrid assist, making 603 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. This engine enables a blistering 3.7-second zero-to-60-mph time.
The GLE 53 and GLE 63 S get standard 4Matic all-wheel drive (AWD) and an AMG 9-speed automatic transmission.
4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty
The new-vehicle warranty from Mercedes-Benz is for four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first. This also applies to the powertrain and is typical among Mercedes’ closest competitors. The GLE 450e 4Matic’s hybrid battery gets the same 6-year/62,000-mile coverage applied to other hybrid batteries in the Mercedes lineup.
Safety
The 2025 Mercedes-AMG GLE-Class hasn’t been crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Still, the very similar 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV (non-AMG version) received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS, and the 2025 model is likely to receive a similar rating.
The 2025 Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-AMG GLE is in the middle 26-75% for Cost to Own among all Luxury Mid-size SUV/Crossovers.

The letters “AMG” in the Mercedes-AMG name stand for the original founders of the AMG Motorenbau brand, a performance brand later made part of the Mercedes-Benz empire. The founders were Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, the initials of their last names providing the “A” and “M” in AMG. The “G” in the brand name comes Aufrecht’s birth town, Grossaspach, a village that is now part of the community of Aspach, Badem-Württemberg, Germany.
