Positive Review

"I love this car! Practical, beautiful, fun to driv"

This is my first Mercedes, and I scraped the bottom of my piggy bank to afford it. Friends had told me this would be very expensive to own and operate. They were wrong. Except for standard maintenance, which I've been very thorough about, the car has been reliable and a joy to own. There are very few drawbacks...a little tight for room, some of the compartments quirky, I'm not crazy about the center console, and it took me a while to figure out a few of the features. But overall it was a very sound investment, it's holding its value beautifully, it's safe, solid, and a little sexy. Can't ask for more, and I've driven it very hard, including 4 trips to and from California. It's great in all weather, including, recently, lots of snow and ice....I will drive this little beauty til the wheels fall off :-)

Critical Review

"A sweet ride in, a boat to drive"

This is actually my mother's car (I drive a brand that begins with a P), but I've driven it frequently enough to form an impression. Reliability seems to have been a non-issue over 2 years, although a front suspension/shock groan has surfaced recently. The Mercedes-Benz hallmarks are all here. Cabin is impressively stiff and isolated for the price. Doors shut with a sound that whispers money. 80 mph feels like 50. And so on. Car has the Premium Package w/ Nav, getting typical toys like power tailgate and rear camera. Synthetic seats are a tad rubbery, but TOUGH as nails and do not appear to wear at all. Wood trim and silver accents are old-world-elegant, and the interior is generally angular and conservative. These are what keep my mother going back to the brand. Very Benzo. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. It doesn't seem to be any more frugal than the ML350 that it replaced, struggling to reach 23 mpg highway despite weighing 800 lbs less than the ML. Throttle response of a fishing boat. The rudder...it's a rudder. Suspension is very soft and not even well-damped. The car begs for straight lines. Don't think about off-roading with those delicate 19" wheels, which are pretty but a nightmare to clean. Overall, best experienced from the [front] passenger seat. Back seat is tight.

IT’S A KEEPER!

Made the huge mistake of selling my 2014 Benzie and I have regretted it ever since the guy drove it out of my driveway. Thought I could find a new, better SUV to buy. NOT! Tried Volvo XC60, Volvo XC90, BMW X3, and BMW X5. These were all newer cars in the 2019-2021 range. Not one of them could hold a candle to this great little car! They had all the bells and whistles with the latest technology but the ride, the noise, the level of visibility and the simple, stated elegance of the GLK were missing from each and every one of them. It made me realize I had made a terrible mistake. So much so, I just located and purchased a 2015 350 GLK with less than 60,000 miles and it’s identical the one I just sold (except it has a backup camera). The GLK rides high so you can take in the world around you. The windows are large and square so you can actually see as opposed to the new cars that seem to keep cutting away at our visibility. The instrumentation is simple and easy to use. The only negative on this car for me was the Becker Nav system and upgrading was cost prohibitive. The ride…now that’s the best part. The car is nimble, responsive, solid and so much fun to drive. The V6 gives you that extra jolt of power and seamlessly handles whatever lies ahead on the road. It’s a joy to drive and doesn’t look like every other SUV out there. I like being different and this car is so distinctive and even has a happy face to boot! Why do the new designers think that “angry” lights and grills are appealing. Not sure what adventures my new Benzie will bring me but my previous one only needed regular oil changes and a tire change. It was trouble free! Do yourself a favor if you own one of these classics, don’t sell it. Take good care of it, enjoy its wonderfully unique personality and hang on to it! Many more miles to go!

Best quality and durability

I bought a 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class with more than 140,000 miles on it, that one of the best cars I have ever driven, comfortable, smooth, strong, luxurious and looks like new. I still drive it until now had never been any issues. I want realy to thanks whom made it.

New Transmission
Pros

Very advanced for a 2011 model.

Cons

Not suitable for a family w/ more than 2 children.

This vehicle just got an upgrade, as it has a brand new transmission installed on Nov 20, 2023 with a warranty of 3 years or 36,000 miles whichever comes first.

Fast, smooth ride & reliable

I bought mine with 29,000 miles and it has 165K now. Mine is a 2013 GLK350 4Matic. The car has a nice heavy feel, which makes the vehicle feel safe driving in bad conditions. The engine has nice zip and great acceleration for a V6. I have never needed a major repair in 7 years of ownership. Great car!

My GLK 350
Pros

Good gas mileage! Good road trip car!

Cons

Too small for big families.

This is the best car I've ever owed. I love the body styling and the get up and go of this car. More importantly it's reliability. I have a 2015, GLK 350, Blue Tec. I can count the number of times it's been in the shop on one hand. It currently has 68,000 miles and still runs like brand new. My husband has offered to buy me a new Mercedes while he keeps my GLK but I don't won't to let the GLK go. I love it! This is my baby!

Nice, but expensive
Pros

Fun to drive..powerful v6. Smooth

Cons

Expensive and the finishes are a little cheap.

This car is fantastic when all is right. I have always loved this model. But, when things go wrong, be prepared to pay. Common services are so expensive. Be ready to spend thousands...not hundreds. At 70,000 miles, I had to replace rotors and shoes. $2,100.00. At 90k, water pump and coil. All plugs replaced $2,500.00. And that's not even from a dealer service department but rather an independent mechanic. I can't imagine what a dealer would charge. Coming from Toyota most of my life, having a Mercedes is neat, but I miss the secure feeling of absolutely knowing my car will start and run dependably for years without issues. Driving a Mercedes comes with daily anxiety and a voice in your head that constantly says, "what will break today and cost thousands" I'm ready to go back to Toyota.
