Positive Review
My wife and I have owned the 2013 GL450 for 1 year and we both admit that it's the best car that we have ever owned. Quality both inside and outside defines this vehicle. At 75mph the 3 ton gentle beast sails as smooth as a hovercraft over calm water while the cabin is quieter than a whisper. Awesome steering at both low and high speeds. I can't think of a production car that I would feel more safe in. Negatives include a complex infotainment system that takes some serious study to take advantage of all the high tech amazing tricks. Also for a car this large, there are only 2 usable HVAC vents that serve the entire 2nd and 3rd row. If you are in the "wayback" during the summer, you will be sweating . Nevertheless if you have the means to afford this vehicle, it is a pure joy to travel the long road. Of note, there are hard to find since demand is high and supply is low. Not too many seen on the roads, so it turns many heads and serves as a topic of conversation on the parking lot frequently.

Spacious and reliable.
Costly on Gas
I first got my 2014 Mercedes GL 450 January 15, 2025. It had 119,000 when I purchased it. I love my car, but you must be careful who you purchase this type of car from. I got a blessing, and I love my bells and whistles on my car even though I’m still learning my vehicle. Driving around the city is okay on gas, but could be better. I want another one in the future.
Everything
Nothing
I've owned my dream car for 1 week now!
I’ve driven my GL 450 for over 6 years and have not had one problem with this suv. This is my 5th Mercedes in more than 30 years and I still own three. I can attest that if you keep up with all maintenance, put 93 octane gas and drive it sometimes like a Mercedes is driven in Europe, it will run well over 200k miles and in most cases double. I currently have a SL 550(2014), GL 450( 2016)and GLE 450)2020. I love all three and can attest they all drive and run great.
If you can afford to keep it maintained, you cannot have a better choice. Amazing SUV. Loving it as we are a big family and this SUV carries us all as VIPs!
Fast, stylish, comfortable, roomy, and utilitarian
Large, not for a small person.
This SUV is a beast, rides like a car, heavy and tough like a tank, and ride is very smooth. Fuel economy can vary on driving conditions but I have received anywhere from 19 to 24 mpg. I love the features though I had to learn many of it. To maintain its cleanliness, I purchase weathertech floor mats for all three rows of seats and the cargo area. Great for for the family or for the single person who enjoys many activities. I don't recommend this vehicle if you will use after market parts to maintain it. This is my third Mercedes and have never used any after market parts since I have owned them. This is great SUV for a family of five with all can sit comfortably. I think anyone who owns this will enjoy this SUV. Drives like a car with the power and take it on the dirt road too.
Power, handling and good looks
Major Reliability Issues, Poor MGP and Tire Wear
I just sold my 2013 GL 550 after 10 years and 102,000 miles. I had purchased it new. The good news is that it drives like a dream on the highway. I've made many long trips and it's as steady as a train on rails. It's powerful, has a smooth ride, and corners very well for a large car. I also really like the way it looks. The 2013 model was a new version and I ordered it without driving it first. After it arrived, I brought it in for service saying these was something wrong with the throttle response because there was too much lag between pressing the pedal and getting movement from the car. They said it was operating normally. I learned to live with it, but God help you if you need to dodge across traffic from a standstill. Nothing happens for the first second or so. My wife's ML is much more responsive off the line, though the GL can make up for lost time after it gets motivated. Mechanically, mine was a lemon even though I drove it responsibly. I had suspension work done three times, which is VERY expensive. Two of those times the suspension collapsed and I had to limp it to the dealer like a buck wagon. The transfer case also failed, which should never happen. The dealer was apologetic, but didn’t offer any discount other than finding a cheaper used one ($3,400) because surely IT wouldn’t fail. I had a variety of other failures including a turbo coolant leak, failed fuel injector, failed A/C compressor, leaky A/C core, failed emission bank that caused a rough idle, and failed back seat control. The car also got 15-16 mpg ON THE HIGHWAY. It also wore through the Continental tires every 20,00 miles. My replacement car is not a Mercedes and I do not plan to ever own another Mercedes. Based on my experience, I’d say make sure you can afford a lot of maintenance costs before you buy this car.
