I had this car for 6 years before I sold it. I can easily say it tops the list as one of the most powerful SUV's I have driven. It is based on a 30 year old design, but I think they follow the motto that goes: "if it ain't broken, don't fix it". Engine sounds like a beast, and that is exactly how the car drives too. Absolutely stable for such a car of its size, that is also shaped like a brick. Handling is surprisingly good, but the sell off is here. It is built like a tank, and is as uncomfortable as one. The suspension is so stiff, you will feel like you worked out after long drives. This car is very uncomfortable, don't let the Benz badge misguide you other wise. The final painful part that pushed me to sell was the post warranty maintenance. You will see some bills that are relevant to the price of this car. Don't be shocked to get $5000 bills. I had to fix AC, Supercharger, and coils, the bills stacked up and it just made sense to sell the car than keep paying.

I had 2 weeks with this G550 and 900 miles,leaking oil!!!!!!!!! took it to the dealership and guess what!!!!!!!!!! This $106,000.00 needs the engine to be replaced!!!!!!!!!!! on a $100k car is unacceptable!!!!!!!!!! I WAS DRIVING A LEXUS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT!!!! IF FEEL SO BAD FOR LETTING MY LEXUS GO TO GET THIS TRUCK!! BIG !!!!!!!!!!MISTAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Overbuilt
Rides like a truck because it is a truck.
Refined Beast. People know what they are and love them. You will get noticed. Fort Knox on wheels with amazing exhaust note and hauls butt for it's weight. Historic, timeless and cool. They will never go out of style and hold their value like crazy. Not for everyone though. Some people just don't understand.
A lot of trunk space.
Amazing for long trips
It’s a eye catching car. Especially in my matte black. Pretty loud 5.5 V8, 380 Horsepower (in mine) and it’s pretty quick. Not super fast but not slow at all! And it’s great at off-roading!
Uncommon quality

I started as a skeptic. What was all the fuss about? An overpriced mall crawler, I thought. But, somehow I could not get the idea out of this truck my head. The reviews of many other high end 4x4s would have commentary like " it is no G Class" or " Not made to compete with the likes of the G glass"...........so I looked far and wide, found one, and drove it. it took only 5 minutes and It was over....bought it on the spot. I sat inside and was instantly hooked. The thing felt like a safe...shaped like one too. The interior was the perfect blend (for me) of utility and luxury. The engine was impressively powerful, and the exhaust note sounded amazing (it has side pipes for goodness sake). The car was 11 years old and felt more solid any new car that I ever owned. Some modern tech mixed with old school quality was the right kind of alchemy for me. No turning back. I am ruined for anything else. If you can find one in your price range, but it. Don't hesistate, You will not be sorry.

Incredable performance and engineering
Can rust in harsh environments.
This truck is designed for comfort, performance and is the most capable vehicle I have ever owned. It is fast, comfortable to drive and easy to park and navigate thru city streets when required. While gas mileage is poor and requires premium fuel that is the price you pay for the comfort and performance. I like to maintain my vehicles myself and it is possible to do this without any special tools. Here in the North East of the US it is a harsh environment for all cars but Mercedes seem to not hold up well to the de-icing materials used on the roads. This car is no different and started to rust along the running boards and under the rear window washer fluid dispenser after six years. I recommend staying ahead of this with a good body shop and I have spent about $1,000 to treat these rust spots proactively. This is a great truck and fun to drive and own. As an engineer I really appreciate the design of this vehicle and would recommend it to anyone to experience great engineering.

Hard ride
One tough and super reliable truck, with awesome performance, style and comfort! Still a head turner, nothing shakes,rattles or dissaponts... Speed demon with great sound as well!

I have a 2004 with 124000 miles. It is the best truck Ive ever owned. In the past I owned a range rover and an escalade. The style is timeless and classic, EVERYONE admires the look of this truck. The interior is spacious (high ceiling and huge trunk space). This truck resale vale is the highest you will find. It is a perfect family truck for vacation. It is also the perfect truck to style and be boss in. I purchased an extended warranty since the mileage was getting high, there have been small issues but nothing serious. I will trade this truck in a year but you better believe my next truck will be a Gwagon.
