Positive Review
Ok, so I work at a factory. Bust my butt for 8-12 hours. My back hurts from being on my feet all day, but then I step into my 06 c280. Instant relief and support on my back when I sit down, and the seat is insanely comfortable. The ride is so smooth, I can't even tell when I hit bumps or run over rocks - and there's a lot of those around where I live. I have gotten many compliments from friends and jealous looks from my family, always a plus because I hate half of them. The maintenance, when it needs to be done, can be quite pricy. It's worth it to look around where you live for a decent mechanic that does good work over going to the Mercedes dealership and have to spend $800 on an oil change. I had to replace the rear diff. oil because it was running low, but I went to Napa and got the kind I needed from an off brand for $20. That was a quick fix. I also visit a fast lube and they do a lot of small adjustments and quick fixes for no charge, which helps a lot. They like it when I visit because they like checking it. (I live in a small town you see, you don't see a lot of cars like mine around a place like this.) Aside from basic maintenance and some tiny little issues that were fixed in seconds or minutes, this car has been a dream to own. I'm not sure how long I'm going to keep it, but the insurance cost is a lot lower than I expected it to be, and I got it for about 10% what it was worth when it was brand new. Definitely worth the seemingly hefty price tag, because you're getting a well-built, sturdy car with decent mileage. Be sure you get as many service records as possible. Luckily for me, the previous owner kept a record of all the service he had on it and it runs perfectly. I think the only thing I would change about it is the radio, but that's because it's 2015 and I want to have GPS navigation and stream internet radio. Guess it's off to the car accessory place! (But seriously, the radio works just fine, and the sound quality is amazing and sounds just like a pair of brand new speakers.) Overall, easily the fanciest car I have ever owned, and is friendly on a broke college student's budget. Definitely worth it if you're okay with the cost of maintaining it. Remember though - it's not very often that you need to have it done.
Critical Review
Bought this car used with 99000 Mi on the odometer. It is a blast to drive specially at really high speeds. Cornering is insane. The car is comfortable and very well equipped. Drawback is maintenance. I went through a set of tires in one year, brake pads in 2, I replaced most of the front suspension and all tie rods reestablishing the fun to drive factor. All parts are expensive, you need a computer to fix most items. The interior looks like a much older car, faded panels everywhere, headliner coming unglued, door handles beyond repair. I was disappointed with the resale, it dropped like any other car.

Dealer experience
I purchased my 2005 C240 4-matic in 2006 with 12k miles as a certified pre-owned vehicle. I assumed that the vehicle had been a lease given ownership records but turned out that MB Financial also owns the service loaner fleet at Mercedes Benz of Manhattan as it is a corporate owned dealership (only one in the country). Having been a service loaner, the car was not well treated by its drivers and soon after getting it I started to notice issues like rough ride caused by damaged alloy wheels, needing to replace tires at 20k miles, some interior bits coming apart, etc. When one of the service people slipped that it had been a service loaner I remember blowing up at them to the point that they took the time and covered the expenses to make as new the issue areas I’d noticed - including new wheels and tires and tightening up / replacing interior bits. With everything sorted by the end of 2006 it felt like a new car and since that time - 19 years and 130000 miles - the car has been excellent. Yes, maintenance is expensive vs. non-lux brand & when you hit 100k miles the dealer really tries to find problems - while actual problems go unnoticed till things actually break. So I have stopped taking it to the dealer and am doing more of the work either myself or at an independent mechanic. Over the duration of ownership until the last 2 years the car cost no more than a few hundred dollars on average to maintain and repair annually. It’s had brakes done twice and it just got its 4th set of new tires (OEM Continentals). Now at over 120k miles it’s costing about $2000 per year in repairs/ maintenance as a few major repairs were needed (valve cover gasket/AC components, etc). BUT it drives and looks as if brand new which is amazing for a 20 year old car. It still puts a smile on my face when I push that accelerator and we push forward. 4-matic is EXCELLENT in wet and snow. And even as it has aged it remains handsome and gets compliments. I highly recommend this vehicle. I plan to keep it forever.
