Positive Review
I have owned this car for 4 years now and it is excellent! Brought it with 200000 miles. The most releiable, comfortable car AND CHEAP maintenance. Ditched my 1996 Mazda two weeks after i brought this 1988. Those of you who are paying $450 for water pump, get a new mechanic! Parts are very easy to find and are really cheap as against the Mercedes stereotype: $$$ to maintain. Brakes last 20000 miles and cost the same to replace as they did on 1996 Mazda 626. On Mazda i had to change the brakes every 8000 or 10000 tops. Go figure. Car is heavy on take off but no one can catch it after it has started moving. This is not a defect. This is a luxury sedan and starts off in 2nd gear when in D for comfort and for some odd reason lower emmissions. If you really want to feel its power on take off, shift to D2. It will start off on the 1st gear and you will feel the beast hiding under the hood. Let me warn you, you CAN break the engine mounts if you make a habit out of this. BTDT. The engine sits on silicon oil filled mounts. Thats why you dont even feel the engine when you are at a traffic light. but you CAN break the mounts if you are not careful at take offs. I have given it a 4 for performance just because of the slower take off but would have given it a 4.75 if the website let me. As long as this car has been maintained, miles do nothing to it. By maintenance i dont mean costly repairs but oil changes, brake pads, keep the interior and leather clean, keep fluids topped up, proper belt tension, recommended maintenance in the service booklet and most of all dont drive like a maniac! yeah you dont feel the bump or the pothole but it is the car which takes the beating without passing it on to you. Use proper fluids. Mercedes has a different engine and fluids from walmart will ruin it. Even you windshield washer is heated with a flash heater. Use the right oil not whatever jiffy lube pumps in. This does not mean you have to buy the expensive $90 oil change. look in your manual you will find you can even use penzoil provided it is the right kind. This car is fully automatic and has lots of systems which work on vacuum. Now vacuum hoses are rubber and you can expect them to wear out in 20 years. Most of the problems people are complaining about is related to vacuum leaks which costs pennies to be fixed by an honest mechanic. This car is so strong that it will even run when something is broken. I am pushing 235000 on it and it still does not give me any problems. Yeah i have maintained it religiously to the extent that my mechanic shoves me out of his shop now telling me not to waste any money. But that is me, a paranoid car enthusiastic who wants everything perfect. I am in the market for a new car but selling or trading in this car is not a part of the equation. People give me offers to buy this car all the time but i am not selling. This is a keeper. Guess which car i will be buying next? Mercedes of course. Got a Sedan, now want a sports!
Critical Review
This car started stalling and having lots of problems after 9 months from my purchase date of the vehicle. At first everything was very satisfactory with the car. Then, everything started going at once and now I'm out of a car.

Great acceleration for sedan!
Ac unit
The 300e is my first car and i absolutely love it! The car has been in my family since 1992 and has been running beautifully since! One thing about this car is that the AC unit and head gasket break often and oil leaks happen often as well... The ac unit isn’t really worth fixing unless if you really wanna spend a lot of money. The spark plugs do also disintegrate over time!!! But besides that stuff this is car is AMAZING and is worth the money and the care.. if you take good care of this car, it’ll last forever!
great car, runs great, looks good. drives well
There is no way my car is only worth 743.00 its a great car. Its reliable. It runs great. It looks really good And has a very strong motor. I have no intention of getting rid of it,just was curious.I do not think I would use your sight if I was going to.
Safe, Comfortable, Dependable, great Family car.
no cup holders
Purchased this '93 from the original owner in '96 with 24K on the odometer. Now has over 200K. Well maintained, this vehicle series is bullet proof. Couple of minor issues with wiring harness, AC conversion and radiator .. that's it outside of regular maintenance. Great high speed (80+mph) cruiser. Handles well and is very comfortable. 28mpg on road and better than 19 mpg in town. Does need premium fuel. Let a Friend use it for a period of time and he did not provide the same level of care. Overheated the motor and that caused an issue with the head gasket. Not serious but a nuisance. Just enough to have to say good bye to an old friend (the 300 E). KBB indicates these are now available for <$2K. Find a good one and you will never be disappointed. We still have an '83 SL Triple Black that will keep a 3 pointed star in our family.
Pretty Stylish, Not many can say they drive a benz
Glove box replaced by airbag.. safety first
Amazing steal of a car with only 71,000 miles on it! Engine runs great and there are very few issues with the car for being 22 years old. Small oil leak, most likely a loose oil pan, and a slight wear of the suspension but what can you expect. Truly incredible engineering that shows why Mercedes Benz is built to last. I drive this car to school everyday and feel safer in this car than most others, even with all the other student drivers. Definitely a head turner and a car with character! Not many people can say they drive a classic mercedes. E Class = elegance
parts are not cheap
Bought from original owner 4 years ago with 120,000 miles now with almost 200,000 miles has never let me down, reliable, dependable, reasonable good on gas. I would have another one if this one ever dies.
just an overall great car- pretty and strong
leaks oil---from where no one knows. Not a problem
Probably the best car I have ever owned. It takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. I cant get over how well it drives... a 93 in 2015 and still performs well. I love this car. I would buy another one if I could find it. This year for MB was a fantastic year. Oil shows leaks---but none to be found- but no major issues in its' 22 years of life. Great car- nice looking- still a head turner. Love you 93 Benz!!
Purchased new in 93, it has been a great car to drive due to its Sportline heritage of low racing suspension, power, shorter turn radius and front and rear sports seats. It still looks great in 2013. Just put in new ac and fixed sunroof and polished red body paint. I own several vehicles including 2012 Audi A8L which is a fantastic car; cad Escalade, and Toyota truck. To keep miles off the Audi, I drive the Mercedes to and from my office. Still fun to drive and still gets the looks. I've owned other Mercedes, but none has pleased me as much as this dependable and reliable vehicle.
Strong, smooth car. Good engineering and materials
No cup holder. Bad ventilation/AC controls
My car is a 1991 that I bought in 2000 with 72,000 miles. Since then I have only had the car not start once, and that was a shot alternator. For the twelve years I have owned it I have replaced tires, brakes, fluids, alternator, distributor, engine mounts and one or two small items like fuses. The car just goes and goes. I take it on a lot of long journeys through the mountains during the summer and the car handles it all like a champ. It is a heavy car and it's not tight like a sports car but it drives powerfully and smoothly. I get pretty good mileage too, up to 30 on the highway. I don't like the ventilating system and there is no cup holder in the car. The seats are large and comfortable and the leather is of really high quality. I've kept mine garaged and conditioned and most of the leather is like new. I would definitely buy another, but I'd get it checked out completely first.
