Positive Review
I can't begin to express my feelings on the mechanics miss diagnosing this car over and over! the first time I had an issue I was told it was the water pump, the 2nd time I was told it was the head gasket! I was told to "junk it not worth fixing" by 2 different shops knowing a little about cars I didn't feel that was true so I took it to a friends shop (I know why not first stop but towing and such played into it) anyway he said the same thing needs head, so I parked it in front of my house for months ignoring it until one day I said I want to check it myself one more time before I call the junk man. SOOO glad I did I found no oil on my water and no water in my oil also no smoke or water in the tail pipe so I thought hmmm maybe its the water pump again, witch I never though was an issue the first time but hey better then the head. I ran it in the driveway and it overheated as usual, so I started to pull the thermos stat out and thought wait a second and I took the radiator cap off and YUP the rubber was all warn off so I went to the auto parts store paid $7 for a new cap and NEVER had another issue! Remember 3 shop including my friend all said it was the head and I see a lot of those posts on here I wonder how many just needed a radiator cap? I'm sure at least some. so don't be like me and leave it sitting for 6 months or call the junk man try a new cap and see what happens, can't hurt.
Critical Review
running well. I think can still go on for quite a while. However it needs some work: brakes maintenance, handle broken on the left back door, stubborn check engine light has been on for the past 12month. I brought the van to Mazda for service to no avail, the light came back after few weeks so I gave up. I didn't want to put money on the car since I was planning to buy a new one. If no buyer for the next few days, I will give the car away to a charity.

drives like v6 sedan, good cargo space
low 3rd row seat, smaller than Toyota or Honda
Had this car for nearly 200,000 mi nearly new since 2005. Worse problem was ignition coils went out at 50,000 and 100,000 mi and replace radiator at 150,000, regular maintenance spark plugs at 100k and 200k. CD player won't eject or load CDs and it got some scratches but otherwise still a very solid car with few problems. It's a bit smaller than Honda or Toyota and the 3rd row is very low to the floor but first two rows are pretty good and it hauls a twin bed with 2nd row removed and 3rd row folded into the floor, which you can't do with the CX-9 SUV that replaced it. Good for 20-25 MPG and drives like a V6 sedan, pretty good power and ride, and doesn't look like a 20 year old car.
Overall it has been a very good suv and cheap to keep maintenances you would be pleased to own one reasonably well on gas as well as a good starter car for a kid being sent off to college
I LOVE this Mazda MPV. It might have the body of a smallish mini-van, but it has the heart and soul of a Miata. Lots of pep, turns on a dime, parks just about anywhere. It holds 7 people, or three people and three bicycles (inside) or more people and 4 bikes on the bike rack (trailer hitch mounted). If you remove the middle seats, and fold down the back, you can put in two narrow cots and a full-sized mattress and go camping. Or, help your friend move across town in the rain. The sliding doors are on both sides of the car for easy access, there's plenty of headroom for the driver and passengers, and the driver's seat sits up high so you can see over all the little cars on the road. There's cup holders everywhere and no pesky screens up front to distract you. Gas mileage isn't terrible, the wipers work fine, and people seem to have enough leg room in the back. I want Mazda to make this again. I would buy it in a heartbeat.
Lots of room
Weight
Great little van only I had to do to it was change the radiator other than that gets me to point a to point b
we love our van, over these 18 years it has been good for us. Of course we did brakes, change (cv joints) axles , repair air condition twice. replace front MacPherson struts, place all 6 coils, these replacements were not all at once. over the many years it was expected. the usual oil change and and rotations of tires and changing tires. re[lace water pump , replace timing belt. we can all agree that we should have gotten a new car. It was hard to part with our van. It has exceed everyone's expectations . It still looks really good inside the and outside our van. We still see 2006 Mazda LX in our town same color must have been a good year. you take care of your vehicle it will take care of you. So the rating we gave its an honest review. end of story
fun to drive, min. maintenance, great load space
only fair gas mileage, mpg
2006 MPV drives like a nice sedan, go Mazda -- beyond new brakes at 60K, fluids changed out -- new tires, General Altimax RT 43's , fantastic -- load space with seats out, unbelievable capacity -- 23 mpg with 3Liter, ok power for step hills -- beyond oil chg., battery, tire rotation- maintenance Free -- find one used with low mileage like mine = Buy it 4 sure!!
Safe, relilable, roomy, room to haul lots of stuff
Poor gas mileage, V-6 rattled when accelerating
This Mazda MPV-ES is great hauling a bunch of kids around, trips to the hardware store and moving furniture. My model had leather seats with electronic controls. The only thing that broke was the after-market DVD player, which broke after 2 years. The vehicle drives like a boat, and that's okay. It's not a sports car! The gas mileage was not great (about 20-22 MPG). So when gas was around $4/gallon it cost over $40 ti fill it up. Its big and comfortable and I thought it was a safe car. The two center row seats can be removed if needed- a nice feature. Air conditioner still works great. This car is not flashy, so I was not too concerned about it being stolen. Would I buy this car again? Yes, if I had children to transport. I'm selling it now cuz I no longer need a big car. (Now I drive a Mercedes GLA:)
power, comfortable seating, rear seat fold down
sensors go bad, sliding doors can freeze shut
Ive owned the 2004 mpv for fourteen years. The engine and transmission have never given me problems these are very reliable and has good power. However, Ive had problems with many of the sensors and coil packs. coil packs have consistently gone out at about 50,000 miles and many sensors went bad ex. coolant, oxygen, iac valve, etc.If you have some mechanical ability these should not be too much of a problem.
