Positive Review
After matching the mazda 5 against the other mini-vans, I thought it had much more value than the others. I felt like I saved about $8000 or $9000 and got pretty much what I wanted. My wife hauls 3 grandkids around in it. It is very reliable and easy to drive and easy to park. With the back 4 seats down. you can haul a lot more than you would expect (fold-up tables, chairs, coolers, food etc). We made one trip to Las Vegas from San Diego over the mountains going there and then again coming back. no problems with power. 28 mpg both ways.
Critical Review
Positive reviews: The Mazda 5 grand touring offers a lot of standard features and has plenty of power. The engine and transmission is smooth and the ability to shift it like a manual transmission is very useful if you have to descend a lot of hills. Very comfortable to drive on long trip. Negatives:Low beam headlights are terrible on country roads. You can't see 30-40 yards in front on a undulating road. The car is terrible in snow. The traction control kicks in on a hill and slow the car down to the point where you have to turn around and go back, turn the traction control off and hope you can make it. Don't buy it if you live in the country where it snows.

Good gas mileage
Blind spots
I bought this car about a month ago. Absolutely love it!! Very nice comfortable ride
third-row seats, low center console, storage space
seats stain very easily
I have owned my 2012 Mazda 5 since I bought it brand new. I had no problems with it at all, until the last few months. It has more than 140,000 miles on it. I bought it because I was looking for a car that my surfboard would fit inside. I took my surfboard with me to test drive cars, and it slid in this one so much easier than all the others I tried out, not only because it's long but also because it has a low middle console. The others with high consoles caused my board to sit so high, I could not see over it, but I can in my Mazda 5. I can even fit my bicycle inside it, along with my surfboard! Then, the third row seats and sliding doors on both sides came in handy when traveling with my grandkids. I can fit my whole family in it, although it's a bit tight. And there's a lot of trunk space. The one thing I really dislike is that the seats stain so easily, even from just a drop of water! If they still made them, I would buy another newer one.
I was forced into buying this vehicle because my last car had transmission issue's. I hated this car for about 3 days and then started loving it. This car tells you Hello when you get in and Good By when you leave and when you drive this car that many times it kind of grows on you. This car also doesn't rust and I live in the salty Midwest. Pro's-Looks like a mini minivan and handles like a dream, with the reliable 2.5 Liter engine that gives this light car plenty of power. The Mazda 5 is very reliable, amazing gas mileage and very fun to drive. Cons-The car handles bad snowy roads because it's very light and the car has emission issues at least once a year. The car also has transmission control module issues at least once before 200k miles and the car has a 3rd row that can only fit children, the car's shifter doesn't lock meaning you could hit it during driving and mess up the transmission and the cars brake rotors weld to the hub really, really weld to them. The cons aren't bad compared to other cars, if you buy this car you really won't regret it.
Gas Mileage, reliability, space and price.
small 3rd row, comfort and features
I'm the 3rd owner and this is a great reliable vehicle that hasn't ever left me stranded, gets great gas mileage but watch out for the TCM's on these as they can fail as they do on the Mazda 3's. They also have 3 rows but only small kids can fit the 3rd row so watch out for that also. Buy it, I promise you won't regret it.
Design, Fuel Economy, Reliability
No leg room and poor sound system.
I have the standard transmission model for around 5 years and all I've done is put new tires, battery, brakes and engine oil change. Never had a bad experience with it; has 150,000 miles and keep going forward. Done several road trips; from FL to NH, FL to TN etc. and it just keep going. Its a very reliable car and has no regrets with it.
Electrical fails when hitting a bump or parking on uneven ground. Steering fails and brakes get bad no garage will work on it .I just made my last payment I have been offered $400 trade in. If you buy Mazda you will need a witch doctor on retainer
Great room and extra 3rd row
I purchased this car in July 2011 which was the brand new 2012 model. It was my first ever brand new car. All past car purchases were used. I got the basic model at around 20,000 because that's what I could afford. My van at the time needed too many repairs so I researched and decided to buy the Mazda. I still have this car and love it! This car has taken us on long trips, 50min daily drives back and forth to work, chemotherapy treatments for my husband for multiple myleoma who passed away in 2017, wedding dress shopping for my daughter, and other family events or happenings. I wish Mazda made another one like it because mine has so many miles and worried about driving long distances now and having problems occur. It was really worth purchasing thus car. Thanks for making such a great vehicle.
Plenty of space. good acceleration. fun to drive
poor rear shock mount design. poor exhaust system.
Bought car new. Manual transmission. Excellent seat space. Bucket seats front and middle. Can fit 4 comfortably and 6 with very small third row. With 4, still have excellent cargo space. rear doors are sliders like vans so really easy entrance. Very sharp looking car. Good mileage. I get around 26mpg overall. Very good acceleration. They say it's noisy interior. I love driving this car. Smaller than regular van but still really good space to move kids stuff. Suspension issues. Had to replace all 4 shocks. Rear shock mounts had to replace twice due poor design. Muffler issues are biggest problem with this car. Car is no longer made and muffler does not fit any replaceable OEM. Now have multiple warning lights on - muffler leak, engine vacuum value, ABS sensor. Looking at 1500$ in repair mostly for muffler. Now not sure I will keep it any longer since trade-in value nears what this repair will cost.
