Positive Review
I bought my 1999 Mazda B2500 used in 2003 with 57000 miles. I have been driving it for 12 years, and have had very few mechanical failures. Notably, I had to replace the alternator, and do some improvised repairs to the lumbar support in the driver's seat. My son who was 5 years old when I bought the truck now drives it to college every day. Very good value for a used truck.
Critical Review
Catalytic converters often clog before 100K. It's a 1100 repair or you live with the CELight on all the time. It's not the main CC either, its the pair below the engine manifold. The #6 spark plug is IMPOSSIBLE to reach, even by a dealer. Ford plugs often seize and the plug breaks off. It's a big dollar repair to pull the engine and re-tap the threads. Ask a repair facility how much they charge to change spark plugs before you buy one of these.

Reliable, easy to keep up, good fuel economy,
Jacking kit is clumsy and weak.
As a lifelong professional mechanic, when I go looking for a vehicle, it has to be above all else easy to maintain and have affordable parts available. The B2300 with 4 Cyl and 5 speed is a real basic, easy to keep up and cheap on parts/fuel little truck. Built from about 94 to to 06 as both the Ford Ranger and B series Mazda, the parts were sourced from all over the Mazda/Ford bins. Sounds bad, but not being special, they cross over to everything and are a dime a dozen. My brother moans and groans every time he has to get his Toyota worked on. I laugh myself to the bank with parts savings when It does need work. The truck is comfortable drive, turns tighter than a jeep, will haul in mass more than a full size short bed truck, has a low enough tailgate to load easy, is easy on gas, everything in the cab is laid out for easy operation, It will definitely haul more weight than its listed for, has much better visibility than newer trucks especially the full sizers, Has more cab room than the modern Ranger/Colorado size trucks, in other words, it punches well above its weight class. This is my second Mazda B series. I drove a B2000 for years and only sold it for an overseas military move. This B2300 I bought on return from the EU and its probably one of the best vehicles I've owned. If it got wrecked or solen, Ide look for another one. I wouldn't even waste time/money with a new truck.
Reliable
Gas mileage
I bought the truck in 2020 I have put 32000 miles on it never had a problem runs great I have had 3 people try to buy it since I have had it could get more out of it than I give but it’s hard to find a reliable truck
Great on gas. Strong motor.

Truck runs great . Parts are accessible if needed, easy to fix. Simple and reliable. Basic. Newer cars are over complicated and hard To work on. I plan on running it for 180000 more miles.
