Positive Review
Bought it for 2k in 2013 with 125,000 Love the car 24 mpg (i drive city and highway). Fun at high mpg. Replacement parts are easy to find because its a ford car Great bang for your buck. Great sensors to tell you if anything needs repair which insures the car will last forever! Whether you're looking for a second or third car, car for your teen or just strapped for cash and need a reliable car with some decent luxury features even 15 years after the car came out, this is the car for you!
Critical Review
Air shocks are nice, but when they fail, you will be paying!!! The front end has constant problems. Is the chassis too small for the engine and the car?

Solid, comfortable, and efficient despite the V8.
Air suspension may fail. Lack of modifications.
When I first got the car, it took me a bit to realize what I have. This vehicle checked off all the basic things I needed, such as space, great for all season driving, while not too bad on gas. And at times, I thought of getting rid of it once I had the money for something "better". But what more can you ask for? Not only did it give me the basics needed for daily driving, but it gave me so much more. A fwd luxury car with a solid, responsive V8 engine, perfect for the whole year, comfortable for short and long trips, and quite enjoyable if you know how to move. I do the majority of service and repairs, so I can tell you it's not hard at all... Unless you have big hands, in which case, you will suffer for sticking your hands into the engine bay. This is where I get into the cons. The air suspension is infamous for failure, as it is on all Lincolns of this era. However, it is not hard to replace. The air springs are only on the rear in the 1998. With that being said, it's not so bad just replacing the rear springs. From what I've experienced, it takes quite a bit until they fail, so it's not a yearly issue or anything ridiculous. I also replaced the air compressor myself, which is super easy, heck I can take it completely apart and put it back together with no issues. The other con is that it is so underrated. There are little to absolutely no aftermarket parts. You'll find 1000 aftermarket parts for a Town Car before you find so much as a custom lightbulb for a Continental of this year. It's a massive shame. But you can always modify the exhaust of course. But I thinks it's fun to keep it the way it is, although it'll catch Nissan Maxima drivers off guard haha. It can move. It's a highway cruiser. So I recommend getting one if you drive far distances often. Got me through an 8 hour drive road trip and back without a flinch. I averaged 26 to 28mpg. I'm not kidding. Although I recommend removing a catalytic converter to ease the flow of exhaust and free up the engine a bit. It has 3 catalytic converters so just keep that in mind if you live in a sketchy neighborhood. Otherwise, I'd say it's a bit more modern than one would expect, because personally I'd say what seemed like luxury back then is now standard on most vehicles today. Sure, it may lack a lot of what newer cars so special, but I'd so my Lincoln has WAY less distractions than many new cars. It also has way less special electronics and sensors that are bound to fail. You see, the only thing to worry about for this Lincoln is the air suspension. Everything else should be pretty solid despite being a 23 year old car. It should be at it's all time low in price if sold right now, but this Continental is bound to become a classic in the next 10 years, especially with EVs becoming more common. 4.6L V8 DOHC 260hp just so you know.
Not good on long trips.
Pretty quite.
I've had to much problems with the alinement and I didn't want it because I has fake leather in it. It is not a good gas milage car. I don't drive it much. Parts are really taken a toll out of my pocket but easy to fix.
Easy to drive in all types of weather

Comfy on the highway
Suspension is a bit soft for Texas side roads
This is an underrated car, great ride, mpg’s (I’m averaging 23mpg), and lively passing performance. I just bought this car for $1,350 from an estate. The previous owner had it for 20 years, and she purchased it as used from the original dealer in 1999 (maybe it was a dealer demo car?). It had not seen much use in recent years, and I have been slowly going through all the maintenance items. She had run over something and damaged the catalytic converters, so I installed new converters. All told I’ve spent about $800 on parts to refresh this car, and now I’m driving 140 miles per day during the week (I live in rural Texas). It definitely prefers premium fuel, or the mid-grade, over regular. As a long time do it yourself mechanic this car is not too hard to work on. Since the car is now 21 years old there are not many mechanics familiar with this model, and there is no good aftermarket repair manual. There is also very little serious YouTube videos for service or diagnosis- you will largely be on your own with no support for home garage repair and maintenance. So I got the factory set of service volumes off eBay.
Comfort, fast engine, features & safety!
Cant think of any.
I owned this all around excellent vehicle until a drunk driver in a pick up truck going 50mph rear ended me while I was stopped. I was shoved into, and almost under, a large Ford F150. My entire trunk was compacted up to the rear windshield, and the front end was mangled, but the entire passenger compartment frame remained its integrity entirely. I was hit so hard a post in the head rest cut my head (which required 10 staples), but I am absolutely convinced I shouldve, and wouldve, been injured MUCH more severely had I been in any other vehicle. I may have even died, had this sturdy car and frame not prevented me from getting shoved under the truck in front of me. I miss this car so much.....its comfort, its fast engine, its features, and above all, how safe I felt driving it. I highly recommend this vehicle to anyone!
ride, handling, comfort
no Sat radio
I bought this car from my mom at 35,000 miles just because she needed something smaller at age 85. I use it to commute 55 miles each way to work and have other cars for weekend driving including a BMW 325i conv. and a toyota land crusier for mtn driving. Forget it---the lincoln is better in the snow (with Bizzaks) than the Land Cruiser and frankly, the licoln is so much more comfy to drive than the BMW that its my full time driver. I did replace the tranny mainly cause mom never checked the tranny fluid and I get 20 MPG all around. Such a great car, wish I bought one new in 2002 and kept it
power, comfort, reliability

This is my second continental, I had a 1995 in high school and it was such an amazing vehicle. 5 years ago I bought my 2001 Continental and it had 35000 miles only. Bought it from the original owner who stopped driving. I love this vehicle so much, it has the best ride ever! So comfortable and has amazing POWER!!! I have put 95000 miles on this vehicle since I have owned it and have never had any major issues! Everything I have done is general maintenance, tires, brakes, filters, flushes and etc...I was so happy when Lincoln came back with the Continental!!! I cant afford a new one, I found a 1998 Continental for sale from the original owner with only 17000 miles!!! Defiantly recommend this car to anyone that wants a luxurious, comfortable, reliable and powerful car!!!
