Positive Review
I LOVE my Aviator--error codes and engine lights are the common issue at or right after 100K but people are WAY off!! How do I know? I just went through it. Total cost to fix the problem? $88.00 including labor. Cracked or minor holes in PVC hoses connected to the intake manifold are causing a lot of error codes and engine lights so people are running to auto zone, pulling codes and trying to trouble shoot on their own to no avail. This is the finest vehicle in luxury, utility and family big engined smaller SUV's. It can haul mulch, picnic tables, a family of 6 on a long vacation or shine up to be a smooth dinner date vehicle with the mrs....heated and air conditioned seats cant be beat in the southeast and AWD combined with the V8 make this a BEAST against whatever ice, snow and rain the northwest can bring--for quality, comfort, safety and utility I give my Aviator a 10. Gas mileage is between 15.1 and 18 on the highway even at 100K + but it's hard to complain when it brings so much to the table.
Critical Review
I have had this truck for less then 5 years,in that time,I have had to completely rebuild the front end, replace the moon roof, rebuild the transmission, and 2 compressors later! Not to mention the back door cracked,as they do on all Lincolns!I hate it! Sorry to say this is the biggest piece of bull I have ever seen! Stay away from Aviators!I have owned other Fords as well, never have had all these problems! If I am lucky, someone will steal the darn thing! If you are thinking of an Aviator,my advice, don't buy, unless you want migraines with it,because that is what comes with it as standard option.

Heated and air conditioned seats! Lumbar adjust
CD player has jammed a couple times
Bought new in 2003, been a great vehicle. The lift gate cracked and had to be replaced last year. Been reliable and comfortable.
Comfortable ride
As expected, repairs are expensive
Purchased this vehicle as used back in 2004. Still a very comfortable ride at 313K+ miles. Love it.
Stable, reliable, tons of room
low mpg, used body parts pricey as not many sold
reliable, sturdy, roomy ride, with the back seats down you can fit a lot back there, even cart a 12' kayak (nose between the front seats), with just a bit of the tail end of it sticking out. Powerful engine, basic interior styling. One thing to be aware of is that since this model was only made for a few years replacement body and interior parts can be pricier than you think. If you want to swap out the front headlamp assemblies for a new pair be prepared to pay well over $500 as many aftermarket parts manufacturers didn't find it cost benefitical to fabricate certain parts like this as there really weren't that many of these made. Not great MPG - 12 in the city - but that's to be expected with the large engine and weight. Handles great, very comfortable ride, stable, does not 'lean' on quick curves. Vehicle retailed for over $50K when new, which kind of kept down sales as the Navigator wasn't that much more. Exterior styling is good, it fits in with current large SUVs. If you can find one that runs well (pay particular attention to the transmission - if you check enough reviews you'll find that the trans can be problematic and is pricey (3000+) to rebuild. But, if all is good you can't go wrong for the going price of these which is usually 4K or less.
its always being service at dealers shop ford.
this aviator suv. involved already in an accident twice. one was it hit in the rear and it was fixed at the body shop. 2nd accident front . headlight was change and fixed thru the body shop and some other parts., had been change also.
Mechanical excellent, not one problem in 10 years!
Gas Mileage, but worth it!
We sold it after 10 years with 135,000 miles. Never should have sold it! I had company car and used Aviator as personal vehicle. No mechanical problems; back gate crack annoying, driver window not functioning but all else excellent. My neighbors still drive their 2005 Aviator today!!!
Dependable great ride
Not great on gas
This car is extremely comfortable. Great road trip vehicle that rides smooth plenty of power and feels totally safe on the road. The awd also is very dependable and helped me through snow that other vehicles were unable to conquer. If you are looking for great gas mileage this is not the vehicle for you and it also requires premium gas. Though the positives definitely outweigh the negatives.
Very comfortable and fastar very good looking
Gas milage
