With its luxurious appointments and genuine off-road abilities, the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover is the pinnacle of its breed. This luxurious SUV is offered in both standard and long-wheelbase models, and both seat five. The 2021 Range Rover isn’t as large as a Cadillac Escalade, but it has loads of status, styling, and speed.
The $350,000-plus Rolls-Royce Cullinan and $165,000 Bentley Bentayga are considerably more expensive, but the Range Rover is still pricier than the Lexus LX, Infiniti QX80, Lincoln Navigator, and Mercedes-Benz GLS, all rivals offering 3-row seating and slightly better reliability and resale numbers.
2021 Land Rover Range Rover pricing starts at $40,862 for the Range Rover P360 Sport Utility 4D, which had a starting MSRP of $94,450 when new. The range-topping 2021 Range Rover P525 SVAutobiography LWB Sport Utility 4D starts at $80,700 today, originally priced from $212,350.

On the highway, the 2021 Range Rover’s standard air suspension automatically sinks a little to improve aerodynamic efficiency. This is a quiet and comfortable 2-row SUV, and forward progress is swift and effortless, especially when there’s a supercharged V8 under the hood. Arrive at a remote location, and the Range Rover’s terrain-response system knows what’s needed to reach the ultimate destination. The air suspension can also raise ground clearance and provide a cushioned long travel.
Back in town, the excellent outward vision, relatively tight turning circle, and well-assisted steering make light work of dodging traffic and easing into parking spaces. All the time, the Range Rover feels castle-solid and spa-level luxurious (there’s even a “hot-stone” setting for the optional massaging seats). This isn’t merely a means of transportation; it’s a home away from home.
Covered in yards of the finest leathers meticulously matched to the perfect wood color and grain, the Land Rover Range Rover interior is a stunning example of British luxury and style. Small details like the heated center armrests and a gesture-controlled power sunshade set the Range Rover apart, as does the elegant simplicity of its high-tech cabin.
In the mix are two 10-inch infotainment touchscreens, both featuring swipe and pinch-to-zoom functionality that works surprisingly well. An available head-up display is the perfect complement to the configurable 12.3-inch digital driver-information display. On the long-wheelbase models, available executive seating can accommodate the tallest occupants and includes both calf and footrests.
New for 2021 is an available Cabin Air Ionization system. When the driver presses a “Purify” button, the system goes into a recirculation mode that filters out tiny particulates 2.5 micrometers or larger.
The Range Rover design has evolved over the generations, but retains a lot of the original’s no-nonsense practicality while adding an undeniable presence, sophistication, and taste. The LED headlights and daytime running lights give the vehicle a distinctive signature. Integrated neatly into the slab sides is a crease that starts at the top of the headlights, bisects the door handles, meets the taillights, and underlines the “Range Rover” badge on the clamshell tailgate. The Range Rover is also surprisingly compact for a full-size SUV — even the long-wheelbase model is only as long as a Chevy Traverse.
The new Autobiography Fifty Edition is distinguished by a black grille surround and other black accents, including a “Fifty” script badge personally created by Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s Chief Design Officer. Also, look for Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations to offer a very limited number of Autobiography Fifty Editions in these three colors from the original Range Rover paint palette – Tuscan Blue, Bahama Gold, and Davos White.
Another new model, the Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic Black Edition, boasts Santorini Black Metallic paint, forged 22-inch black wheels, black brake calipers, and ebony seats.
TERRAIN-RESPONSE SYSTEM
Packing years of Land Rover off-road experience into a single electronic convenience, Terrain Response offers settings for Snow, Sand, Mud, or Rocks, optimizing the transmission, throttle response, and air suspension to respond to each situation.
EXECUTIVE CLASS REAR SEATING
Standard on the Autobiography and above, this massaging rear seat has wider frames and deeper cushioning, plus climate controls. Taking advantage of the LWB Range Rover’s extra 7.6 inches of rear legroom, the rear seatbacks can be reclined up to 40 degrees.
Air suspension is standard on the 2021 Range Rover, along with the terrain-response all-wheel-drive system, LED exterior lighting, a gesture-controlled 2-piece tailgate, leather upholstery, tri-zone automatic climate control, 10-way power-adjustable front seats, reclining rear seats, ambient cabin lighting, a pair of infotainment touchscreens, and a 13-speaker/380-watt Meridian audio system. Standard safety equipment includes forward-collision mitigation with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a rearview camera.
Higher trim levels bring more equipment. For example, the HSE version brings the panoramic moonroof, 20-inch alloy wheels, 14-way power-adjustable front seats, heated rear seats, perforated leather upholstery, and a beefier 6-cylinder engine.
Models with V8 power also have things like an upgraded terrain-response setup and 21-inch wheels. Other extras include a refrigerator, cabin air-ionization system, quad-zone climate control, more driver-assistance features, diesel power, long-wheelbase versions, 557-horsepower supercharged V8, plug-in hybrid, and a 29-speaker/1,700-watt Meridian surround-sound system.
Land Rover also offers numerous accessories such as leather tailgate event seating, center console cooler/heater, and personalized illuminated treadplates.
The base Range Rover engine is a turbocharged inline-6 with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that captures energy during deceleration. This electricity is then used to boost acceleration and power the Range Rover’s fuel-saving automatic start/stop system.
In the base Range Rover, this engine puts out 355 horsepower. In the Range Rover HSE P400, it puts out 395. Also available: a torquey turbodiesel V6 (with 254 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque) and an even stronger Range Rover P400e plug-in hybrid with a combined output of 398 and 472 lb-ft of torque.
The Range Rover PHEV has a Parallel Hybrid mode that blends gas and electric power, and an electric-only driving mode with a limited maximum speed of 85 mph. A 7kW onboard charging socket is behind the Land Rover badge on the right of the grille, while the 13.1-kWh lithium-ion battery is beneath the trunk floor. A full charge from a 220-volt/32-amp charger using a Mode 3 cable takes as little as 2 hours 45 minutes.
The most powerful Range Rovers enjoy supercharged V8s with 518 or 557-horsepower. An 8-speed automatic sending power to both front and rear axles serves the entire Range Rover line. The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover is tow-rated up to 7,716 pounds, while the plug-in hybrid model drops that figure to 5,511 pounds.
