The 2025 Range Rover Velar is a luxurious, well-equipped, comfortable midsize luxury SUV with surprising off-road capabilities. Pricing starts at $62,875.
The 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar sits at the sweet spot of the Range Rover lineup, a bit larger than the Evoque and a bit smaller than the Range Rover. It’s also one of the most stylish, with a unique look that’s still distinctly Range Rover. Inside, the Velar is comfortable and luxurious, with excellent materials and ample equipment.
As you might expect from Land Rover, the Velar is also a capable off-roader — provided you can get it dirty.
We’ve spent hundreds of hours driving and evaluating this generation of luxury midsize SUVs, including the Range Rover Velar.
The 2025 Velar gets minor updates to its proximity-sensing lock/unlock system. A range of updates to the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) includes a new steering-wheel-mounted switch and new software behavior. There are also some changes to the interior colors, materials, and wheel selection.
The 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar has a starting sticker price of $62,875, with the range-topping Range Rover Velar P400 Dynamic HSE kicking off at $79,775. But Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Pricing currently suggests paying $2,182 to $3,806 less than MSRP, depending on trim and equipment. These prices are updated weekly.

With four trim levels, the Range Rover Velar is reasonably priced in the midsize luxury SUV realm. For example, the BMW X5 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE. start in the mid-$60,000s. The Porsche Cayenne, on the other hand, starts in the mid-$80,000s. More affordable alternatives include the Genesis GV80 and Lincoln Aviator, both of which begin at around $60,000, and the Lexus RX, which starts just below $50,000.
Before you buy a Range Rover Velar, be sure to check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should be paying. Saving money upfront can mean more money to roll forward into your next car. Range Rover Velar resale values are about average for the segment.
In our time behind the wheel, the Range Rover Velar proved smooth and comfortable yet agile on the road. It’s stable and confidence-inspiring even when driven with some spirit, although others in the class are sportier. Overall, the Velar’s on-road demeanor is balanced, refined, and composed.
Taking the ride and performance to the next level, the optional Electronic Air Suspension is a great choice if you can swing it. Likewise, the 6-cylinder engine’s extra power is welcome, although power delivery can be a bit uneven when accelerating from a stop.
Off-road, the Velar is more capable than most road-biased luxury SUVs despite the large wheels and relatively low-profile tires. Terrain Response electronic traction management and standard all-wheel drive (AWD) help maximize the available grip, making the Velar a great choice for snowy climates or off-pavement adventures.
The entry Range Rover Velar gets a combined 23 mpg (22 city/26 highway), which is about average for the segment. The BMW X5 xDrive40i gets 25 mpg combined, while the Porsche Cayenne gets 19 mpg.
Stepping up to the P340 mild hybrid, the Velar gets 22 mpg combined (19 city/26 highway). The range-topping Velar powertrain, the P400 mild hybrid, doesn’t give up much economy for its extra power, earning 21 mpg combined (19 city/25 highway).
As luxurious and refined as it is reserved, the Range Rover Velar’s cabin is a fine place to spend time. High-quality materials (perforated leather upholstery is standard) and minimalist design contrast with a button-sparse, dual-screen layout. The Velar’s wedge-like appearance hides a boxy shape that makes for plenty of interior space. Both rows of seats are comfortable, with plenty of legroom. Cargo space is about average for the class at 30.9 cubic feet behind the second row, about three fewer cubic feet than the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE.
The Velar also comes with a heated steering wheel, digital gauge cluster, Meridian premium audio, and a panoramic sunroof — all standard equipment. A limited-availability P400 HSE variant adds even more equipment, with many optional extras included in the nearly $80,000 (including destination charge) list price. For example, the electronic air suspension, heated and cooled front seats upholstered in Windsor leather, unique 21-inch wheels, and more are standard.
With 37.17 inches of rear-seat legroom, the Velar is on par with the BMW X5 (37.4 inches) but a bit behind the Mercedes-Benz GLE’s 40.9 inches. Regardless, it’s comfortable and spacious enough even for taller occupants.
The Velar’s exterior is one of the sleekest of the Land Rover and Range Rover families — at least visually. The classy exterior style was updated in 2024 with a fresh grille, headlights, and rear-end details. Those changes carry forward into 2025.
As you rise through the trim range, the Velar’s exterior look grows either more luxurious or sportier and more aggressive, with Dynamic models getting distinct wheels, unique bumper treatments, and other details. The Velar Autobiography puts an even more opulent spin on the look.
The Range Rover Velar is a midsize SUV but on the smaller end of the spectrum. The BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE, and Lexus RX, for example, are all somewhat larger.
Off-road capability
The Velar’s standard all-wheel-drive system combines with Terrain Response 2 electronics to deliver lots of off-road capability. Off-road drive modes include sand, mud, and snow, and the All Terrain Progress Control is like off-road cruise control, allowing us to focus on the terrain.
Pivi Pro infotainment
The new 11.4-inch curved screen introduced last year gives the Pivi Pro infotainment system a handsome interface loaded with user-friendly features, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Panoramic sunroof
Don’t be put off by the apparently narrow windows and high beltline — every Range Rover Velar gets a standard panoramic sunroof that opens to brighten the luxurious interior.
Interactive Driver Display
Customizable digital instrument panels are standard luxury fare these days. However, the Velar’s is a good one, with lots of useful information on tap, including active safety data and off-road information, as well as entertainment and navigation.
Sustainable materials
One of the new materials introduced for the Velar’s 2024 refresh is Kvadrat wool blend, a sustainable, woven textile that offers a luxurious alternative to leather.
P400 powertrain
The Velar P400’s 395-horsepower turbocharged engine is a worthy upgrade. It brings plenty of pep to the luxury SUV, as evidenced by its 5.2-second zero-to-60-mph time.
The Range Rover Velar has a 247-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine in the standard P250 models. This is in the ballpark with the Mercedes GLE but significantly less than the BMW X6 or Porsche Cayenne. Stepping up to the P400 models brings a substantial upgrade to 395 hp from a 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder. Whichever engine you choose, you’ll get an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty
The Range Rover Velar is backed by a 4-year/50,000-mile basic and powertrain warranty. This coverage is typical among European luxury brands.

Forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking
This is standard in every new Velar luxury SUV. If the system senses an imminent collision with a vehicle in front, it will warn the driver and then apply the brakes if the driver hasn’t responded in time.
Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert
This standard system keeps drivers aware of what’s happening in adjacent lanes and watches for vehicles approaching at right angles when reversing the Velar out of a parking space.
Adaptive cruise control with steering assist
The steering assist part is optional in the 2024 Velar; the adaptive cruise control part is standard. Together, they keep the Velar in its intended lane and at a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, resuming the preset speed when conditions allow.
