The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is a small and stylish luxury SUV with a premium interior and excellent off-road capabilities. But several shortcomings land it toward the bottom of our rankings. Pricing starts at $51,075.
The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is one of the original subcompact luxury SUVs. Many new challengers have entered this segment since the original Evoque came out, but this baby Range Rover is still the best off-roader in its class. It also benefits from a luxurious, high-tech interior, several customization options, and head-turning styling unlike anything else on the road. Several shortcomings, however, place it near the bottom of our small luxury SUV rankings.
The Range Rover Evoque competes with the BMW X1, Audi Q3, and Mercedes-Benz GLA.
We’ve spent hundreds of hours driving and evaluating the current collection of subcompact luxury SUVs, including this Land Rover Range Rover Evoque.
The Range Rover Evoque gets a few updates for the 2024 model year. It has a few new paint options, including Arroios Grey, Tribeca Blue, and Corinthian Bronze. The Evoque also has a redesigned center console and shifter, plus an updated 11.4-inch touchscreen display.
The two trims have also been renamed. The old SE and R-Dynamic SE trims are now called S and Dynamic SE.
The 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has a starting sticker price of $51,075, with the range-topping Range Rover Evoque P250 Dynamic SE kicking off at $56,075. But Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Pricing currently suggests paying $3,365 to $3,525 less than MSRP, depending on trim and equipment. These prices are updated weekly.
MSRP | KBB Fair Purchase Price (national avg.) | |||
---|---|---|---|---|
$51,075 | $47,550 | |||
$56,075 | $52,710 |
Every competitor in the subcompact luxury SUV class has a lower starting price than the Range Rover Evoque, most by a significant margin. The BMW X1, Audi Q3, and Mercedes-Benz GLA all start at around the $40,000 mark.
Before buying a Range Rover Evoque, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should really pay. Land Rover Range Rover Evoque resale value is about average for the segment.
The Range Rover Evoque is powered by a 246-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder engine matched with a 9-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive (AWD). In our testing, we found the Evoque to be a comfortable luxury SUV that delivers a smooth, quiet, and comfortable ride around town and on the highway. It’s also competent in tight corners thanks to its small footprint and well-tuned suspension.
Any SUV with AWD will do just fine on a snowy road, but the Range Rover Evoque is capable of much more. When the pavement ends, the Evoque holds up every bit of the reputation of the iconic Range Rover name.
The Range Rover Evoque is simply the best off-roader we’ve driven in the subcompact luxury SUV class. On top of standard AWD, off-road features that give it this distinction include All Terrain Progress Control (off-road cruise control) and the Terrain Response 2 system that can automatically switch between four drive modes.
The Range Rover Evoque gets a combined fuel economy rating of 22 mpg, and premium gas is recommended. That’s pretty inefficient for a subcompact SUV. Two other options in this class that also have standard AWD are the BMW X1 (28 mpg) and Audi Q3 (25 mpg, regular).
More Range Rover Evoque fuel economy information is available on the EPA’s website.
We love the Range Rover Evoque’s upscale design and top-notch material quality. Leather upholstery is standard, and there are several options for upgrading the interior, like the Premium Upgrade Interior Pack, eucalyptus textile and Ultrafabrics seats, and Kvadrat premium textile and Dinamica suedecloth seats. We like how customizable this interior is with different leather colors, interior trim materials, and headliner options.
We found the front seats of the Evoque roomy and comfortable, but we weren’t as comfy in the cramped rear seats. Granted, it’s a small SUV, but even for its size, these back seats are strictly for shorter passengers, with only 33.8 inches of legroom. There’s also not much cargo space, only 21.6 cubic feet behind the back seats. For reference, the BMW X1 is one of the roomiest options in this class, with 37 inches of rear legroom and 25.7 cubic feet of cargo space.
Stand-out styling is one of our favorite things about the Range Rover Evoque. It speaks the Land Rover brand’s design language while having a look that’s unique to the Evoque. The look changes a bit with the Dynamic SE model, which adds sportier front and rear fascias and a special wheel design.
Standard AWD
The Range Rover Evoque isn’t the only SUV in this class with standard AWD. However, this SUV is an excellent off-roader that’s up for more than just snowy roads.
Pivi Pro
The high-tech Pivi Pro infotainment system uses a rich, vibrant screen loaded with features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, HD Radio, and a self-learning navigation system.
Touch Pro Duo
The available Touch Pro Duo system adds a second 10-inch touchscreen to the center stack giving you access to more information simultaneously in a way that’s not distracting.
Terrain Response 2
This standard system contributes to the excellent off-road capabilities of the Range Rover Evoque. It can automatically switch between drive modes based on the terrain.
Premium Upgrade Interior Pack
We recommend the Premium Upgrade Interior Pack if your budget allows it. It adds premium carpet mats, illuminated metal treadplates, ebony suedecloth headlining, and premium cabin lighting for a more premium environment.
Dynamic Handling Pack
This option package provides sportier on-road handling with adaptive suspension dampers and more configurability for throttle mapping, shift points, steering settings, and suspension. Red brake calipers hint at the sportier performance.
Every Range Rover Evoque has the same P250 powertrain. It’s a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. It’s rated at 246 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque, which is about average for a base engine in this class. However, it’s less efficient than most rivals returning only 22 combined mpg.
The Range Rover Evoque is backed by a 4-year/50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. That coverage is typical among European luxury brands, but the BMW X1, Volvo XC40, and Jaguar E-Pace all come with a period of complimentary maintenance.
The Range Rover Evoque is well-equipped with standard safety features. Every Evoque comes with front and rear parking sensors, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, and more.
The 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is in the bottom 76-100% for Cost to Own among all Luxury Subcompact SUV/Crossovers.
