Positive Review

"Great vechicle for the money."

Everyday driver, handles great in all weather on Michigan roads and makes you want to go on a road trip in the winter. Engine very responsive and good gas mileage. Heated seats, steering wheel, windshield and mirrors are excellent. Satellite radio and Bluetooth work great. I have had it over a year (22,000 miles) and it still drives and feels like a new car.

Critical Review

"Stranded"

My 2008 LR2 left me stranded for 3 days on a business trip last week. The dealer still doesn't know what is wrong with it. The vehicle is 3 hours hours away from my house. It won't start. The alternator shorted out. This is caused because of a design flaw. The coolant tube from the reservior to the engine block cracked at the block. The flaw is that it is positioned on top of the alternator, thus when fitting fails and leaks the coolant drips into the alternator. The closet alternator was in Texas- had it shipped overnite = cost $1oo.oo. Replaced battery- now they can't get the vehicle to start. Parts availability are horrible. Every time something breaks, it can be several days to several weeks of waiting. I am dumping my LR2 as soon as it gets out of the dealers shop. I drive too many miles to worry about being stranded again.

Love the Land
Pros

The ride is amazing!

Cons

Don’t like the exhaust sound.

Bought a used 2010 a few months ago. It had 114k on it and I’ve put about 5 since I’ve had it. The ride is amazing. I’m a good size fella and I usually use the passenger arm rest but I don’t feel cramped. I’ve had zero issues and the handling and ride are just great. I’m pleased with the purchase.

Stylish, reliable and comfortable
Pros

Reliable, low mileage, comfortable, fun to drive

Cons

No real down side

Excellent condition (like new) with low mileage. The ultimate comfortable Land Rover experience. A medium size SUV that is extremely reliable. A must see, must drive Rover that offers all you can expect.

Screwed Again

Constant expensive problems
Pros

Quick turbo, but slight lag

Cons

Everything else

Constant problems and very expensive service required. The car has many issues, including several Technical Service Bulletins, NOT recalls mind you...so of course YOU have to pay for them. The newest issue is a check engine light with a bad intake cam (VCT) code, not to be confused with a bad VVT intake solenoid (another common problem). The only way to get to the parts is by removing the valve cover, chain, sprockets, etc. A stupid plastic part breaks...duh. And of course you need a special tool to lock the cam chain back into position. The dealer quote is over $6,000 to fix this in a 2013 LR2, which is worth about $4800. I will just drive it until the timing is so bad that it will not start. DO NOT buy this car!

Truly Terrific
Pros

Size; Power; Looks; Toughness; Sound System

Cons

Fuel economy; No longer made

Owned since “new” - it was a local Land Rover dealer’s “demonstrator/loaner” vehicle for its 1st year (dealer put 17000 miles on it in 13 months). I have put 16000 miles on it in 5 years. This vehicle has been extremely reliable (only big issue early on was severe misalignment causing it to eat 3 sets of tires in its first 2 years after only 5000 miles of driving! - spent over $1000 on some parts and labor and a whiz-bang alignment and it is now perfect). Loves: drives like a dream; great power from a 4-cylinder; best sound system ever in a moving vehicle (rivals my $40000 14-channel surround sound system); looks (Black-Out Package); size (easier to drive and park than my Velar); toughness (will out climb a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon on street tires). Only regret is it has been “replaced” by the Discovery Sport which is DREADFUL.

Pros

Fun to drive, Comfortable and a great off roader!

Cons

Exhaust sound

Its a great car!! Most people say it's not reliable but if you do regular maintenance; this car works just as fine same as any other car. Trunk space is spacious, and the off road modes work perfect!!!
