Positive Review

"Great family vehicle That is fun to drive!"

We needed a family vehicle with a little more room. with that being said We have always owned sporty two door cars and truck, so the thought of buys a four door grocery getter was not something I looked forward to. We had looked at comparable vehicles like the Ford Escape, but ultimately chose the Kia Sportage for the better standard 10 year 100,000 mile warranty that was upgraded for free to the 20 year 200,000 mile warranty during a promotion event and it had all virtually all of the same features for less money. My wife loves this car and she use to have a Mercedes C230! We opted for the T-GDI and I am glad we did. This little 4 banger really dishes out the power and is great on fuel mileage. We have almost 50,000 miles on it so far and it has been a good investment so far. My only complaint is the electric assist steering is a little touchy and takes some getting use to, but after driving it for a while its not that bad. If you want a reliable fast crossover style car that has cargo space for the family road trips or just trips to the grocery that won't break the bank, this is the car for you.

Critical Review

"Be careful where you get oil changes"

I owned this car for a year and a half and loved it! Great ride, big enough for growing kids in the back seat, nice sound, etc. I took it for regular oil changes and maintanance at the Jiffy Lube down the street since the Kia dealership was way on the other side of town, 45 minutes minimum each way. Then the engine blows up (not quite literally but close). Turns out the after market oil filter the jiffy lube used did not have a tiny spring in it that the Kia needed (not mentioned in the owners manual BTW) and now my engine has $5,194 worth of engine damage that is not covered by warranty. Unless you know for a fact that you will take this to the dealership for all maintenance, do not risk it.

We Loved Our Sportage

We had our Sportage for 12 1/2 years while putting 85,00 miles on it. Over that period, we only had a few minor repairs and would highly recommend it. We sold it as we decided to get a new SUV, which has all those features that weren't available a decade ago.

Great car until the engine blows up
Pros

Towing capacity, smooth driving, decent on gas

Cons

Engine is only good for 250,000 Km

We are the second owners of this 2013 AWD, wonderful car, the AWD will take you thru anything and I have always considered that this car was my pickup truck, I certainly used it as one. I could tow ANYTHING with it. Other than the regular oil changes and some maintenance brake work , the car worked great until it make the 260,000 km mark.....Bang.....and just like how many other thousands of Kia owners, I was the owner of a motionless car, unless you wanted to push it. I'm in the process of putting a used engine in it, time will tell if it is just a waste of money, but I love the car and am willing to give it a second chance. Just too bad Kia won't stand behind their poor design, it will be my last Kia when the car finally does give up next time. Brian

Hard pass

Would not recommend this car. I’ve had nothing but trouble with it since I got it in June of 2023. Two weeks after I purchased it from a dealership, the engine went and had to get replaced. I don’t know the dealership didn’t see this or I’m thinking they possibly were sneaky about it. Thankfully, the engine was under warranty and got replaced, however it’s been having weird electrical issues and stalling out some times. I only got this car because I heard Hyundai is just like it which is what I had before my car got totaled. Do not get this car. It’s not reliable.

2103 Kia Sportage EX

The absolute best car I’ve ever had. All I did was change the oil every 3000 miles, rotate the tires as recommended and kept up with regular maintenance and it lasted for ten years and 290,864 miles until it had an unfortunate encounter with a large deer and was totaled as significant engine damage was sustained. Miss that car so much ❤️

Engine blew at 105,000

I bought my Sportage used in 2016 with 45k miles. I fell in love with the way it looked, its hot! Pros: Looks good, was reliable for 7 yrs til its unfortunate death. : ( , plenty of space, decent gas mileage. Cons: Even with METICULOUS maintenance engine blew at 105k with ZERO warning. Cabin very noisy. Blind spots. Had to replace window motors. Had the engine held out for 180k or so, I'd rate it 4 stars.
