Positive Review
I bought this car when it was only 5 years old. It was my first car loan and it was worth it. It never broke down on me. It handled the snow like a champ and fit my kids decently. It was more of a compact suv so it had its pros and cons as far as space was concerned. Great SUV for a smaller family,2 kids, or for a couple with no kids. Storage in the trunk was pretty good. More then you would expect for a smaller SUV. Muffler did get rusted out which I guess is a common issue with these cars. Something about where the connecting rod is or something. Brake lines did rust out and had to be replaced. But other then that was a good car to me. And it held up good when I got into my car accident. I was going 55mph and a guy ran a stop sign. The car flipped 3 times but I did not suffer any major injuries. (just whiplash)Which was crazy to me since the guy who hit me was a f-350 hauling a bobcat on a trailer. So as far as safety goes this car is excellent.
Critical Review
Buy Toyota, never going to buy KIA again, not worth much used! Cost unreal had to replace timing belt, waterpump, spark plugs and wires, cost$2000, timing belt were a bad idea, never going to buy any suv with timing belts or any vehicle, all the car companies switched from timing chains to belts at this time, just to get more money because cost more servicing your KIA, etc, I will not be happy and never buy KIA again, I want KIA to buy me a new KIA suv, then if it's any good, I'll give them good reviews, thanks!

Overall condition is very fine.
May need minor suspension work engine is in good s
A few very minor dings. Drives well, has been well maintained and does not use oil. Average wear on tires and the interior is in good shape with for speaker radio plays very well.
Purchased at 140,000 mikes, runs smooth, clean, comfortable, and problem-free! Love it! The LX does not have many thrills, but it does the job!
Easy parking and maneuvering
No hidden spaces in it
My Kia Sportage has been reliable, useful and comfortable since I bought it on December 19, 2011. It has 121,000 miles and has required very little upkeep. I love the ride, easy parking, easy loading and unloading, and parking. I am 71 now and would buy another in a minute.
Everything
No cons
The best car I’ve ever owned. Reliable, consistent, fun. Could win the lottery and would drive this car till it dies.
Powerful and tough SUV. Can haul a lot in back
Belts. The originals were not very good.
I LOVE this SUV! Seats 5 with a sizeable back cargo area. Moonroof, great sound system, USB ports in console, push button 4WD. I live in Michigan and it handles the winter beautifully. Bought mine used in 2013 with 36,000. It now has 130,000. And when I say 130,000 miles I mean them in terms of 6 months a year bad roads and weather and another 6 months of bad roads. My Sportage exceeded my expectations! At 65,000 I had all the belts changed ($425 at dealership) and I just replaced the struts and front suspension ($850 at Muffler Man). Other than that it is regular maintenance. I also have 2 sets of tires and rims. Alum w/all seasons and Steel w/snows.
Kia sportage has been the best car iv owned I got my 2006 kia in 2016 It has234.34mil on it today t he only mant I have done is regular oil changes and timing belt New tires and still have it If I could ever get a new car it would be a kia
Sporty, fun to drive and budget friendly
road noise.
I bought my 08 Sportage LX FWD brand new in January of 2009. I looked at and did a lot of research on small-size SUV's before finally deciding on this one. I wanted to get a black one with a sunroof. However, my white one was the only automatic left. I opened the door and instantly fell in love with it. I loved everything about this SUV. It was a perfect size being not too small and not too large. The exterior appearance appealed to me. One of the main reasons I bought this car was for the ride height I loved sitting up higher than I did in my compact sedan. Since it was the LX it didn't have all of the premium options the higher models had, but I was able to add a majority of those using aftermarket parts. I never had any mechanical problems or issues with my Sportage. I received free oil changes from the dealership, and only ever had to replace the brakes and tires, which is part of normal car ownership. The only issues that did pop up were defective lights that were fixed as part of a recall. While I would not say that the interior was luxurious, it did not feel or look cheap either. I loved the black and white interior. There was plenty of space, lots of legroom, and cargo room. The seats were very comfortable. I took a lot of naps stretched out across the back seat. The engine itself could have been more powerful, but a 4cyl fit my needs and my budget at the time I purchased it. If I could have gone back and gotten the V6 I definitely would have at least considered it. But I have gotten my fair share of speeding tickets with the 4cyl, so it was probably for the best. I would have also liked for there to have been a bit more soundproofing to lessen the road noise inside the cabin. I no longer have this car (was rear-ended at a stoplight and totaled), but if I had the opportunity to buy this car again I would. I actually tried to but seems that these are hard to come by in my area.
Reliable and a great value for the price
air vents don't close
I am only reviewing my 12 year old Kia Sportage here now to let everyone know this was the best value I have ever gotten from any car. (I've owned plenty of cars). Its been the least expensive to own, and the most reliable. Basic maintenance is all it has ever needed. I have just about 100,000 miles on it (some road trips but 90% city driving). I am now shopping for a new car so I can pass this one down to my kid, and happy to see the newer ones getting good reviews also. One thing someone else mentioned that I did NOT like, and apparently they have not improved - there is no way to shut off the air. The vents in the front center do not close. Even with the air off, air comes through. Apparently the newer models have the same idiosyncrasy. Its a bit annoying but shouldn't be a deal breaker.
