Positive Review
Nice little car. Drives well, good steering. Smog certified in 2014. Clean exterior and interior. Kept in garage. Minor problem with gas cap door. Needs to be opened from outside. Well taken care of, same mechanic has looked after it for years.
Critical Review
Most Kia's have interference motors.....if the timing belt breaks - you lose your whole motor!!! It happened to me. I loved my Kia....but that's unacceptable!!

Everything about.
Parts are getting harder to find.
One of the best 4x4 for the factory you can find. Has got me to more places the my 1979 Bronco. If you can find one highly recommend it.
It's great on gas
Should try and get at least a 6cyl.
I've taken my 97 Kia Sportage places I'm sure Kia never dreamed of! It goes where Jeeps do but doesn't break down!!! It's went thru gullies, up some pretty steep hills, thru sand, etc. It's really quite the vehicle
Reliable and rugged with a great fuel consumption
Undervalued, and so they are usually not upgraded
This 98 Kia Sportage is under valued of it's time, it's reliability and it's gas mileage with it's low carbon footprint is more reliable than or same as the best sold SUV's in America...And with the new wave of gas surges and the push for electrical or hybrids it's better to just keep these or stick to a firm price...The Sportage has so much going for it that it will be regarded as the hidden underdogs of the time..just like the Suzuki sidekick and it's co-hart that's not sold or talked about in the U.S,. It would make our ,U.S auto groups reduce the pricing of the SUV/4X4 down and the CEO's can't give their bonuses up to anyone but to their own greedy need...The Sportage of this era put fear in the big auto industry, like the Samurai...
Fun to drive, gas mileage, great in snow!
Design of the console - lemme talk to 'em!
Bought her 5 yrs ago used from private party, 135k mi., still couldn't be happier at just over 200k! (Well, used to have a Porsche - I was happy then, too!) She's a little 4x4 on the fly, she'll get up and go, great on gas/mileage, awesome handling in big snow. I sit up a bit higher than a regular sedan so feel safer somehow. Biggest problem in 5 yrs was trying to find a Sportage in a salvage yard in the entire state to replace hatch window! NOBODY gets rid of them! Truly! She might be old, but she's been to all the best concerts! I LOVE my KIA!!
No issues with this make and model! Great on gas,
Lightweight vehicle, drum brakes, slipping in rain
This car has spent 8 hour days on the road in extreme heat and cold, no issues! No overheating, no problem. Runs smooth, and I hate to sell it, but I may have to due to a lot of vandalism to mostly the interior. The engine runs nice great on gas,
Fun to drive
A lot smaller than average vehicle in the road.
Very cute comfortable vehicle to drive. Good on gas. Not a winter vehicle due to the leather soft top. Has been a very reliable.
maintenance sucked.
Needed to replace the blower motor every 6-18 months. Why? because the air conditioner condensed moisture which fell on the motor and rusted it. STUPID!
Best driving!

love this car! Without exception the best small vehicle I have ever owned. Now I do have a problem locating a front passenger side seatbelt replacement. If anyone knows where I may obtain an replacement. Has been back ordered at my local dealer for two months.
