If a minivan is definitely what you need, but the price of a Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna leaves you with a bad case of sticker shock, check out the 2019 Kia Sedona. Loaded with features, the Sedona offers value, safety and comfort in an attractive minivan with an unbeatable standard warranty.
Those seeking a minivan with standard driver assists or available all-wheel drive should look to the Toyota Sienna. The Honda Odyssey holds its value better than the Sedona, while the Chrysler Pacifica is the only one in this group to offer a plug-in hybrid option, making it the most fuel-efficient minivan available.
For 2019, the Kia Sedona gets a slight makeover, with refreshed front and rear styling that includes LED headlights on the SX trim. A new 8-speed automatic transmission is added, and new features include available wireless charging, one-button activation of the power-sliding side doors and twin 10.1-inch touch screens for the rear-seat entertainment system. Sadly, the SX Limited with all of its cool features has been dropped.
For families seeking the ultimate do-it-all vehicle, the minivan is still hard to beat, which is why the 2019 Kia Sedona is hard to ignore. Available in four trim levels and with seating for up to eight passengers, the Sedona delivers great value. It’s every bit as versatile and feature-filled as the Toyota Sienna or Honda Odyssey, but with a lower price and a far better standard warranty. The handsome Sedona offers good power from its standard 276-horsepower V6 and can be equipped with the latest driver-assist systems, helping it earn a Top Safety Pick + designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). And while there’s no plug-in hybrid to rival the Chrysler Pacifica, the Sedona’s fuel economy is in line with the rest of the minivan market.
2019 Kia Sedona pricing starts at $12,021 for the Sedona L Minivan 4D, which had a starting MSRP of $28,245 when new. The range-topping 2019 Sedona SX Minivan 4D starts at $16,523 today, originally priced from $42,310.

The Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price for any individual used vehicle can vary greatly according to mileage, condition, location, and other factors. The prices here reflect what buyers are currently paying for used 2019 Kia Sedona models in typical condition when purchasing from a dealership. These prices are updated weekly.
From behind the wheel the 2019 Kia Sedona is one of the most fun minivans to drive. It’s powerful, responsive and out on the road it magically feels smaller than it really is. Unlike some of its rivals, the Sedona doesn’t make you feel like you’re the captain of a cruise ship. The minivan’s ride quality is smooth and comfortable, but the Sedona also handles well, with quick steering, good balance and excellent body control. It doesn’t lean way over in the turns and it doesn’t feel tipsy or top-heavy. You’ll be surprised how much this van likes to get thrown around. And it has plenty of power. The large 3.3-liter V6 has a strong kick off the line and its 276 horsepower give it a satisfying surge of passing power out on the highway. Steep grades, even when the Sedona is packed with people and possessions, are not a problem.
Like its competitors, the new Kia Sedona has three rows of seats and seating for eight or seven passengers, depending on the 2nd-row configuration. Although cavernous inside and more spacious than most 3-row SUVs, the Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna and Chrysler Pacifica are larger and provide more people space and more cargo capacity behind the 3rd-row seats. Seat comfort is excellent, although sadly the cool airplane-like First Class Lounge Seating option is no more. The Sedona does come standard with Slide-N-Stow 2nd-row seats that quickly and easily move forward to create maximum cargo space. We also appreciate the Sedona’s contemporary cockpit layout. It looks great and the controls are intuitive and easy to reach.
For 2019, the Sedona gets new front and rear styling that keep its look modern and fresh, along with new wheel designs in 17- and 18-inch variety. The Sedona’s strong lines and bold new grille help it look a bit more like a large-crossover SUV rather than a dowdy minivan, a theme most noticeable on the top-line SX trim that also includes LED headlights and fog lights. New this year on EX and higher trims is a single-touch exterior button that activates the power-sliding side doors, making it even easier to get in and out. The Sedona’s side doors open wide to permit easy access to the 3rd-row seat, and an available power rear liftgate makes loading a little less complicated, especially with both arms full of groceries or other important stuff.
DRIVER ATTENTION WARNING
New to the Sedona this year is Driver Attention Warning, a system that monitors the vehicle and driver’s behavior. If the system detects the person behind the wheel is driving inattentively, it will sound an alarm and flash a coffee-cup icon on the dash, signaling to the driver it might be a good time to pull over and take a break.
AUTONOMOUS EMERGENCY BRAKING
Available only on the EX and SX trims, Kia’s autonomous emergency braking can help prevent an accident by automatically applying the brakes when it detects a collision with another vehicle or pedestrian is imminent.
Available in four trim levels, there’s a 2019 Sedona for essentially every budget. Standard equipment on the L includes AM/FM 7.0-inch touch-screen radio with Bluetooth and USB/auxiliary inputs, Siri eyes-free, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also standard are a rearview camera, air conditioning with front and rear controls, and the all-important pop-out "conversation mirror" to keep an eye on back-seat shenanigans. Other road-trip perks include 12 cup holders and tricot-fabric upholstery with built-in stain-resistance. Safety features include a bevy of airbags, traction and stability systems, and hill-start assist control. As with all new Kias, the Sedona has an excellent 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
Adding features to the new Kia Sedona means climbing trims. The LX includes an 8-way-power driver’s seat with 2-way power-lumbar support, dual power-sliding rear doors and rear privacy glass. The EX adds quite a bit more value with a power-operated liftgate, leather seating, Kia’s updated UVO infotainment system, SiriusXM, USB 2.1 charger ports, wireless phone charging, backup-warning system and tri-zone climate control. SX models have Harman Kardon premium audio, an 8-inch touch screen with navigation, ventilated front seats, surround-view monitor, LED headlights, power sunroof and a heated steering wheel. Standard safety equipment on the SX includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot collision warning, automatic high beams and Driver Attention Warning.
OK, so what’s next?
I’m interested in the newest version of this car. What’s for sale near me?
I’m interested in this car, and I’d like to trade in my current car while I’m at it.
Then again, maybe I should be thinking about a used car.
The 2019 Kia Sedona is pulled by its front wheels and derives power from a potent 3.3-liter V6 with direct fuel injection. Horsepower is rated at 276 with 248 lb-ft of torque. Not as powerful as the Honda Odyssey or Chrysler Pacifica, the Kia’s V6 is still strong enough to haul a fully loaded van up steep inclines. New this year is an 8-speed automatic transmission that improves both efficiency and performance, with an EPA-rated 18 miles per gallon in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. The Sedona is tow-rated up to 3,500 pounds.
