Positive Review

"Value, value, value"

As we searched the landscape for a mid-sized sedan, we tested the Sonata,Fusion, Camry and Accord and found the 2016 Kia LX to be the best "bang for the buck" product. Kia has tweaked the suspension to give the Optima a ride similar to the type you would experience in the premium priced sedans. It is very quiet and handles well. We opted for the "convenience package" which includes blind spot sensors, back-up assist and a twelve-way drivers side seat with memory. Having owned a Camry and several Accords this car surprised us. Very well-built and solid all the way around. The 2.4 liter four has plenty of zip and with three driving modes included it's a fun drive. Rated at 39 mpg on the highway and with less than 1000 miles on it I got 38 mpg on a recent all highway drive. The seats are comfortable and the cockpit is spacious. Several people have commented that it seems like a full-sized car on the inside.

Critical Review

"bad customer service. only marketing oriented."

car was overpriced and at times runs rough. recalls and accidents have adversly affected car values. not a full service company.

Best Car of KIA

The 2020 Kia Optima offers three engine options, each with a different performance profile. The base 2.4-liter engine delivers 185 horsepower, while the 1.6-liter turbo offers 178 horsepower, and the 2.0-liter turbo provides 245 horsepower. The 2.0-liter turbo is the most powerful, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds. The 6-speed automatic transmission, paired with the Sportmatic® Sports Shifter, enhances the driving experience.

Great Car, I'm Very Happy
Pros

Great to drive, reliable, economical

Cons

You have to carbon clean the upper engine every 10k miles and keep an eye on the oil level.

I bought my Optima in 2020. It had 15,800 miles on the clock. It came with a lifetime drivetrain warranty and I also bought a lifetime bumper to bumper warranty. It now has 121,000 miles on the clock. It drives like it did the day I bought it. Smooth, precise European style handling and plenty of power. I love the look of the car. The interior is made with quality materials, and the ergonomics are excellent. I've maintained it very carefully, making sure that all the fluids have been changed on time. I change the oil every 4,000 miles, rather than KIA's 7,000 mile recommendation. I also carbon clean the upper engine using Seafoam Upper Engine cleaner every 10,000 miles. Essential, because the engine is a GDI unit. If you don't, carbon will accumulate on the valve tops and cause big problems in the long term. I had the spark plugs changed at 100,000 miles and the belts and brake pads changed at 110,000 miles. I've had no mechanical issues with the car at all. The only problems I've had were a failed rear wheel speed sensor which was an easy fix by my local mechanic, and a while later the car went into limp-home mode. I had to take it to KIA, they diagnosed a software error. They updated the Engine Management software, problem solved. I would have rated it 5 stars but deduct 1 star because it does need topping up with oil between changes, and the sound quality of the car's stereo is sometimes great, and sometimes really fuzzy and distorted. I've owned many cars over the years, this is the one I've done the most miles in, with the fewest issues. It's my daily driver. I'll drive this car until the wheels fall off!

Kia Optima 2016 FE

I bought this Optima 2 years ago, had no problems year 1, then year 2 came and I had problems with the car accelerating. I found out it was the VVT, and oil was leaking on the VVT. They basically would have had to rebuild the components on the engine for the car to be fixed functionally working right. That would have been a 5000 dollar fix. I decided to cut my losses, and sell the car. I will never buy another Kia again! I’ll keep my 2006 Buick Rendezvous CXL for now.

Bad engine
Pros

Ride

Cons

Engine

I do not recommend kia optima. I have 2018 optima and engine is burning oil like crazy. I did some research and their GDI engine has oil burning issue. Kia has been sued in Canada for this reason. I have to put a quart every week. I talked to the dealer and basically brushed me aside as I am second owner of the car. Engine is basic component and if they don't know how to build engine I don't trust this brand. Buy a Toyota or Honda
