Positive Review
I owned a sports car before buying my Niro, yeah it was a big change. I test drove it at the kia dealership and I was immediately impressed by it. The interior feels of premium materials, it is very comfortable. You really can not tell that you are driving a hybrid vehicle. It has plenty of leg room in the backseat and plenty of storage in the back. My gas mileage now is very impressive, I average around 47mpg on the highway and around 55mpg in the city.
Critical Review
While driving home from work last Thursday, my 2017 Kia Niro instructed me to immediately pull over and call Kia's "road-side assistance." At least three times in as many years the car has shut down and forced me to pull over. I immediately had my car towed to my local Kia dealer who once again told me it was a minor "fix" and the repairs would covered under the warranty. This has the common response each time my car has been TOWED to a KIA dealership, and each year when the weather gets warm I am left stranded on the side of a hazardous and busy freeway. As the original owner of my Niro, driving less than 10,000 miles each year it is readily is apparent that my car is a LEMON! After three years of patiently believing the Kia service departments when they tell me that my car has been fixed, only to be stranded once again, I have come to the realization that the only professional recourse would be for Kia to refund my money.

The fuel mileage on this car is excellent and so is the ability to use electric around town when frequently using the plug-in hybrid feature. Some of the trunk space is taken up by the battery so it’s not as large of a trunk is I’ve had on other hatchbacks, but it’s still is able to carry my large dog comfortably.
This car is impressively smooth, efficient, and agile, delivering a remarkable driving experience. It combines the versatility of a compact SUV with a refined, responsive feel. The ADAS features enhance safety and convenience, making every journey more confident. Its plug-in hybrid system offers outstanding efficiency and seamless performance, setting a benchmark for smoothness in its class.

Gas/mile - Reliability - Cost
Some details and low cost materials
After 6 years and more 160k milles the reliability of this car is amazing. 50+ miles per gas gallon. Only 2 refraction needed AC evaporator ($1.5k) and high volt relay ($350$). Total cost of this car after 6 years including repairs 26K. It was an amazing deal
Previous Toyota, Mazda owner and Kia Niro has been an excellent car in savings gas, very solid car, good for 5 people and still space for luggage
It you get a good one, good value for the money.
Reliability issues.
I have a 2018 Ex Touring currently inoperable the power steering went had to have it towed. I had it 5 years with 86,000 miles being told not covered under warranty. I did my research and found several models in Kia line up has this issue but never a recall issue. It got great gas mileage. I averaged 50s to low 70s mpgs. But still filled up every 10 days 3 times a month. Financially speaking really didn’t see the savings $150 a month in gas. In summary the Niro is hit or miss either it’s fine or you have problems with it. What I learned from other owners. I wouldn’t have bought one. No one buys a car hoping it only lasts for 5 years and have to buy another car and still owe a lot to roll into another car.
Just turned 60k miles, runs great, and average a solid 50 mpg, nothing to complain about at this point
