The Jeep Wrangler is a legendary SUV with incredible off-road capabilities and military-inspired styling. This rugged SUV is one of the most recognizable automobiles on the road; everyone knows a Wrangler when they see one. It’s also one of the only SUVs still available with a 2-door configuration, plus it has multiple options for its removable top.
Although the Wrangler is a capable off-roader, it has some nice creature comforts and modern tech features that make it suitable for the daily drive. Its closest rival is the recently resurrected Ford Bronco, another modern take on a classic SUV with impressive off-road chops to match its rugged appearance.
2023 Jeep Wrangler pricing starts at $30,235 for the Wrangler Sport SUV 2D, which had a starting MSRP of $36,480 when new. The range-topping 2023 Wrangler Rubicon Sport Utility 2D starts at $35,384 today, originally priced from $48,285.

For better or worse, driving the Jeep Wrangler isn’t like driving an ordinary SUV from the modern era. When driving on the street, the handling is a bit cumbersome, and the ride can be harsh on rough roads. That’s because of its traditional, truck-like body-on-frame construction. That being said, the current JL generation is the most road-friendly Wrangler to date.
What the Wrangler lacks in on-road refinement it more than makes up for in off-road capability. No matter which configuration you choose, every Jeep Wrangler is a stellar off-roader. The Wrangler is an off-road all-star, thanks to its generous ride height, favorable approach, departure, and breakover angles, and standard 4-wheel drive.
The serious off-road enthusiast will want the Wrangler Rubicon. The Rubicon model benefits from a unique suspension with an electronic sway bar disconnect, the Rock-Trac 4:1 low-range 4WD system, and 33-inch all-terrain tires, making it up for any adventure.
The interior of the 2023 Jeep Wrangler is rugged and practical. Off-road enthusiasts will appreciate the simplicity of this interior, but if you don’t plan on doing much off-roading, you’ll probably feel more comfortable in a more mainstream SUV.
The front seats of the Wrangler are roomy and comfortable, but the back seats and cargo area are a little tight in the 2-door models. If you’re looking for a roomy and family-friendly Wrangler, consider the 4-door Wrangler Unlimited.
Since the 2-door Wrangler is only available in a few trims, there are some premium features that you can’t get. For example, you can’t get leather seats because they’re available only in the Sahara, High Altitude, and Rubicon 392, all 4-door models.
Exterior styling is one of the strong suits of the Jeep Wrangler. You can show this SUV to just about anyone in America, and they’ll know it’s a Jeep Wrangler. Its distinct aesthetic is rooted in Jeep’s military origins, and it continues to hint at its impressive off-road capabilities.
The Willys models of the Wrangler have a black grille insert and black wheels, while the Rubicon model has an extra off-road look with 33-inch tires, taller wheel flares, and red tow hooks.
The 2-door Wrangler is a bit smaller than the 2-door Ford Bronco.
1. 4-Wheel Drive
Every Jeep Wrangler comes standard with 4-wheel drive. This is more rugged than the average AWD system you might find on an ordinary SUV. The Wrangler is not only good on snowy roads, but it’s a capable off-roader in just about any terrain.
2. Removable Top and Doors
A big part of the unique personality of the Wrangler comes from its customizable body. You can remove the doors and the top and even fold down the windshield (if you’re off-road) for an open-air driving experience.
3. Uconnect Infotainment System
This user-friendly infotainment system has a user-friendly 7-inch screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It’s upgradable to an 8.4-inch screen with navigation, Alpine premium audio, SiriusXM, and HD Radio.
4. Rugged Rubicon Trim
The Rubicon model gives the Wrangler incredible off-road capabilities with features like electronic sway bar disconnect, 33-inch all-terrain tires, and the Rock-Trac 4:1 low-range 4WD system. It also has a rugged appearance package to match.
5. Safety Group
This option package available for the Sport S, Willys, and Rubicon trims adds blind-spot monitoring, an injection-molded rear bumper, LED taillights, and rear parking sensors. The Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control, advanced brake assist, and automatic high beams.
6. eTorque Mild Hybrid System
The V6 engine in the Wrangler is available with the eTorque mild-hybrid system. This improves fuel economy and low-end torque while giving the Wrangler better starting power and rock-crawling capabilities.
The 2-door Jeep Wrangler has two engine options — a 3.6-liter V6 with or without the eTorque mild-hybrid system, or a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder. Unless you insist on a manual transmission, the turbo engine is a better pick because of its better fuel economy and torque.
The V6 is available with a 6-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed automatic. Every 4-cylinder Wrangler has the 8-speed automatic.
Naturally, 4-wheel drive comes standard on every Wrangler.
