The 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe keeps this iconic off-road juggernaut rolling longer with plug-in hybrid range, excellent tech and stand out design. Pricing starts at $52,590. Pricing starts at $52,690.
The claim that the Wrangler 4xe counts as America’s number one selling plug-in hybrid is a feather in an already well-plumed cap for Jeep. With an efficient PHEV powertrain, drivers have more time to get outdoors and exploit the Wrangler’s legendary off-road capability. Its 21-mile all-electric range could keep short commuters away from the gas pump for weeks. It’s outfitted with modern Smartphone connectivity, great tech and solid safety features, to boot.
If you’re looking for a hybrid competitor with similar off-road chops, you’re unlikely to find one as the Ford Bronco doesn’t come in hybrid form.
After a midcycle refresh last year the Jeep Wrangler 4xe gets a new paint color, ’41, which is a deep green, for the 2025 model. It also comes with Active Cabin Ventilation, which can cool your cabin before you get in using an app on your phone.
The 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe has a starting sticker price of $52,690, with the range-topping Wrangler 4xe Rubicon X 4xe kicking off at $72,340. But Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Pricing currently suggests paying $2,972 to $4,254 less than MSRP, depending on trim and equipment. These prices are updated weekly.

These prices are before any tax incentives kick in, which can vary quite a bit. Depending on where you live, local and state incentives could give you a discount on the Wrangler 4xe.
Across the model range, the non-hybrid version of each respective trim of the Wrangler is priced approximately $10K lower than its 4xe counterpart. For example, the 4-door, non-hybrid Wrangler Sport S starts at $42,190, and the hybrid version of the same trim starts at $52.590.
Outstanding Resale Value
Before buying a Wrangler 4xe, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should really pay. Jeep Wrangler is in our top 10 list for best overall resale value.
The 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe gets its power from a 375-horsepower plug-in hybrid powertrain matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It also has a two-speed transfer case making it 4-wheel drive capable. When we tested this hybrid powertrain on the roads of southern Utah, we were impressed by the quick acceleration enhanced by the electric motors. It’s more fun to drive than the traditional 4-cylinder and V6 models of the Wrangler.
The Wrangler is traditionally less refined than more car-like SUVs, including its Jeep Grand Cherokee sibling. However, improvements including extra sound deadening, acoustic glass, and a stealth antenna integrated into the windshield help with aerodynamics, road noise, and overall comfort.
Surefooted and determined, the 4xe performs with the same tenacity and confidence as any Wrangler. You would be happily mistaken if you think your off-road experience will be diminished by the Wrangler 4xe and its dual-motor PHEV powertrain. We would have anticipated a better response from the transmission with the addition of the electric motor. We still felt some lag when it selected gears in quick acceleration situations. Although always exhilarated, we are never surprised by the Wrangler’s off-road capability. Having piloted the Rubicon 4xe over some technically challenging terrain in southern Utah, we can attest the Wrangler doesn’t lose a step in its PHEV guise.
If you’re interested in an all-electric Wrangler, Jeep promises there is one coming. We think this is likely in model year 2028.
The Wrangler 4xe has an all-electric range of 21 miles. When that full charge gets depleted, it gets a combined fuel economy rating of 20 mpg. That’s the same fuel economy rating as the non-hybrid, 4-door Wrangler with the turbo 4-cylinder engine.
Despite its middling efficiency with a depleted battery, the Wrangler 4xe still has the lowest fuel costs of any Wrangler. According to EPA estimates, the 4xe has a monthly fuel cost of about $170, compared to $225 for the turbo-4.
The 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe features a low-profile center panel with Jeep’s excellent Uconnect 5 infotainment system on a backlit 12.3-inch touchscreen that’s easy to view during top-down driving. We were amazed by how little glare it had with the top open. Standard wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are included, as well. You can also get 12-way power-adjustable front seats, which have been tested for water fording. Yep, the electric seats are fully operational when submerged, which may well happen with the Wrangler’s 34 inches of water-fording capability.
As for interior space, the Wrangler is spacious thanks to its boxy shape. Every 4xe model is a 4-door, and we were impressed with the rear legroom. The Wrangler 4xe has 38.2 inches of rear legroom, which is almost identical to the non-hybrid, 4-door Wrangler and more than the 4-door Ford Bronco.
This Jeep has 27.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, which increases to 67.4 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. Due to hybrid components taking up some space, that’s a bit less than the non-hybrid (31.7/72.4), but still pretty roomy.
The Wrangler’s exterior styling has always been more evolutionary than anything else. This is again the case for the 2025 Wrangler.
It still has the classic Wrangler characteristics of a boxy, military-inspired design with round headlights and an upright grille. There is no mistaking the 2025 as anything but a Wrangler.
The Wrangler continues only the 4-door body style for 4xe models. It sports removable doors, available half doors, and multiple options for removable tops, including a new Sky One-Touch powertop that acts like a power convertible top. There are six trim levels for the 4xe including the robust Rubicon and High Altitude trims.
For 2025 Jeep introduces a new paint color, ’41, which is a military heritage-inspired deep green.
Standard 4WD
Every Wrangler comes standard with 4-wheel drive, giving it the capability to back up its rugged aesthetic. Four capable 4WD systems are available so you can choose one appropriate for your needs.
12.3-inch touchscreen
The standard Uconnect 5 infotainment includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen and modern tech features like wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Trails Offroad app
The available Trails Offroad app is a nice companion for off-road driving, showing you where the trails are and interesting details about them. It will come with data for around 200 trails, or over 3,000 with a paid subscription.
Rubicon models
The Rubicon name represents the peak of off-road capability in the Wrangler lineup. The Rubicon trim now comes with a unique Dana 44 HD full-float solid rear axle, and a new Rubicon X model takes it up a notch with beadlock-capable wheels with 35-inch tires, steel bumpers, and an integrated off-road camera.
Sky One-Touch powertop
Removing and re-installing a hard top on an SUV can be a pain. The new Sky One-Touch powertop option on the Wrangler acts like a power convertible top that saves time, effort, and garage space.
eTorque mild-hybrid system
The V6 engine in the Wrangler is available with the eTorque mild-hybrid system. This improves fuel economy and low-end torque while giving the Wrangler better starting power and rock-crawling capabilities.
The 2025 Wrangler 4xe pairs a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with an electric motor that replaces the generator and a second motor which mounts to the transmission. The gas engine alone gets rated at 270 hp and 279 lb-ft of torque. The second motor rates to 134 hp and produces 195 lb-ft of torque. Total power output comes in at 375 hp and 470 lb-ft in the torque department. Those are solid numbers when it comes to wheeling.
That electric motor gets its power supply from a 14.0-kWh battery. Using the 7.2kW charger to plug-in, the 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe can charge fully to its total 21-mile range in around two and a half hours on a Level II charger. The Wrangler 4xe is not DC fast charging capable.
The 8-speed automatic transmission isn’t the most refined we’ve driven. We would have hoped with the electric motor’s instant torque we’d feel the turbo lag of the 4-cylinder less than in the Wrangler models that feature it alone. This was not, however, the case. That being said, if you’re in the market for a Wrangler, then chances are ultra refinement aren’t what you’re after.
As is typical among mainstream domestic carmakers, the basic warranty is for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Jeep covers the powertrain for five years or 60,000 miles, which is also the industry standard. The battery for the plug-in hybrid system is covered for eight years or 100,000 miles. Additionally, Jeep throws in three years of complimentary scheduled maintenance.
The refreshed Wrangler 4xe gets a few additional standard safety features for 2024, like rear side-curtain airbags, structural improvements for side-impact performance, and rear seatbelt pre-tensioners. Standard safety tech features include forward collision warning, advanced cruise control, and a backup camera. Optional safety features include blind-spot monitoring and rear parking sensors.

Technically, no. The Jeep Wrangler is not a fully electric vehicle. However, it does feature a plug-in electric motor. This means you charge the battery through an external power source. As a result can run the Wrangler on pure electric power. That pure electric range gets estimated at 21-miles.
Yes, but that number is technically considered MPGe. This means there is an electric component giving fuel economy a bit of a boost. The Wrangler’s pure electric range levels out at 21 miles. When that range expires and you are using only the gas engine for power, the Wrangler gets a far more realistic number of 20 MPG combined.
Jeep recommends a minimum 87 octane for the 4xe. However, because the engine that powers the hybrid Wrangler is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder which is turbocharged, there’s never any harm in putting in higher octane fuel for improved performance.
The 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is a good buy for most Mid-size SUV/Crossover shoppers. It gets strong ratings from our experts and most buyers are paying less than sticker price.
