Positive Review
If you swap out the plastic timing chain tensioners and water pump with metal factory replacements, this car's biggest problem areas will disappear. My 2001 XJR has 124k miles on the clock and remains reliable. It's superior-quality paint and leather are holding up well, keeping the car fresh. It remains structurally tight and drives nearly as new. The engine requires only 1 quart of oil (synthetic) between 10k mile changes. My only concern is the transmission, a 5-speed ZF unit known to fail beyond 80k miles. My shop, Continental Imports in Oakland CA, is trying to preserve it by changing the fluid and filters every 15,000 miles. But even if I need to fork over $5k for a rebuilt transmission, the car is such a bargain, I'll still be dollars ahead.
Critical Review
I have owned nearly 88 cars in my life. The Jaguar has been the WORST. Two engines replace in 10 years, transmission replaced, and this was all done with less than 99,000 miles on the car. Windows stick, wipers stop, locks don't engage. This is a troublesome, high maintenance car that cannot be relied upon. The cars look gorgeous but have serious defects. Read reviews and talk with owners before ever even considering one of these. The 6 cylinders are much more reliable and dont suffer the same timing chain tensioner issues that the 8 cylinders do. But buyer beware these cars will keep you broke!!

High test gas.
Very stout car. Very comfortable, agile, lots of power and stops good. It's got good visibility. It's got a nice size trunk and full size spare on aluminum wheel.
Performance, Unique, Sleek Style
Can be expensive, not a con just a fact
I own this car along with three other XJ Jaguars. Handles great on the road, a real eye catcher. Great road car, performance is exceptional, smooth ride. Also, the XJS V12 Sports Jaguar was a real eye catcher and certainly was a speed demon. I cannot imagine driving any other car, actually these are for the Jaguar at heart. This is the most unique car you will ever drive.
Its got regular wear and tear.
Powerful engine, most comfortable driver's seat.
Upkeep expensive from dealer, so avoid.
Bought this 2001 in 2003 off lease. Had 70,000 miles on it when I became disabled and neglected keeping enough oil in it, burning out engine. Just put a new engine in with 44,000 miles on it. New wheels and tires, new rubber insulation on windows, fixed all dings. Exterior has no oxidation and is in near mint condition. At age 70, I figure this will be my last car as I always loved older Jags and this one was always good to me. Well worth this recent investment as very few are on the roads her in Northern California.
Beautiful Jaguar styling. New battery, new fuel p
Needs undercarriage rust repair
Single owner, No accidents, regularly maintained, garaged. Problem area is undercarriage salt damage. Needs dual tailpipes and 2 catalytic converters.
Fast, Fun, Pretty reliable, sleeper
Low MPGs, low headroom,
Owned this car for about 3 years and absolutely loved it. There is no car that depreciates like a Jag, bought it for $6500 in immaculate condition. Had the alternator go out, and that was it for issues! Total sleeper, shocked mustangs and WRX's all the time. However, car had poor headroom, averaged about 16mpg and trunk was a bit small for how large the car is. Also headliner started sagging. Car was vandalized one night and I decided to cut my losses and move on. Just bought another Jaguar XF supercharged.
lots of new products
maintenance is somewhat high
New tires, tune-up, new starter, new battery, new headliner, refinished exterior paint. All systems working with the exception of auto lights.
