"RELIABLE CAR"

I have owned two Isuzu Rodeos. One was a 1998 (was totaled in 2002 with 100,000 miles on it) and the one a currently own is a 2004. Sadly I'm trading it in today to get a minivan since my husband and I are expecting our third child and need more space. Both of my Rodeos never needed any large repairs. I"ve replaced my brakes and my tires and that's it. My one complaint is that the check engine light constantly goes off if the gas cap is not replaced tightly. It goes off within a few days but it still has been annoying. The Rodeo is a great midsize SUV for the price. There are no fancy features but it is a comfortable ride. Also, when I was rear ended by a drunk driver last year with my 4 week old daughter in the back, my car suffered little damage. His truck was totaled. I have always felt very safe in this car. I will miss this car!!!!!

Critical Review

"It's a Mixed Bag"

I have some mixed feelings about my Rodeo. For the most part it's been pretty reliable. I own a 99 and bought it at 143,000 miles from an individual for $2,750. I lucked out because I really had no repair work needed in the 5 years that I owned it up until recently. Granted I only drove it 14,000 miles in that 5 year span (to/from school/work), but I never really did any routine maintenance on it and barely even had the oil changed. At 157,000 miles the alternator died, which drained the battery. Together the repair was about $450, but it's been draining oil for a while (manageable). However, I was informed that the head gasket on the engine is also bad, and at this point it's pretty much more expensive than it's worth to fix it. The Check Engine light was on since I bought it for 5 years, but nothing really ever happened. I think the Anti Lock Breaks were bad after a while, too, but I just got used to driving without them. Gas mileage isn't great (about 15 in my experience) but I never really have to worry about someone hurting me too bad in an accident and it can certainly take a beating from hail. Long story short it's a budget car and all in all, it's been pretty reliable for me. However, I do wonder if I had driven it 14,000 miles in one year like most people do, if it would have died the first year I bought it. It was pretty good for a school car, though, and it did everything I needed it to, (start, move, and stop). I feel like overall it was a good buy for me, because I don't drive enough to need anything too fancy, but I'm finally trading up to a Honda because the repairs aren't really worth it considering the car's value.

Great Rodeo super super clean!
Pros

Economical fuel-wise and a fun car to drive!

Cons

Needs a solenoid replaced in the transmission area

When we bought the Rodeo it needed a new windshield and it also has new tires. We made repairs recently, the major one being replacing the head gasket and so while it was off, virtually everything was replaced. The transmission was serviced and after the fact we now know it needs a "kick-up solenoid", I believe it's called. This little vehicle is super duper clean!

My favorite car ever!
Pros

Comfortable and convenient SUV style.

Cons

Nothing notable.

I have had this car for 10 years. It is now 21 years old. This has been my favorite car of all time! The SUV style is so much more convenient and comfortable than sedans and pickups. It has been well maintained and has given me little problems. Nothing major. Of course, I don't drive much anymore, but still, nothing major.

2000 Isuzu Rodeo

My Isuzu Rodeo is the best auto investment I’ve made. I love the pick-up, space, and reliability. Brian, owner of San Carlos Auto has serviced my SUV for twenty one years. I credit him for my car running so long.

AMAZING INVESTMENT AND GREAT CAR VALUE
Pros

Great Price-Reliability-Comfort-economic-solid

Cons

No rear view camera

I Wasnt sure at first that I would like an SUV type of vehicle... but after enjoying the comfort and reliability of this vehicle for all these years, I have nothing but accolades to say about it. The car is large enough, tough enough, comfortable enough, has a decent amount of features, and for the money - you just cannot go wrong with this vehicle. Solid, reliable, economic in gas, comfortable.
