Positive Review

"Safe, secure, versatile, solid and comfortable"

This is the second QX56 we've owned and we're now debating whether to trade our current 2006, also known as "Sweetie," for a 2015/16. In almost ten years of ownership, other than regular maintenance, we have not had one problem with Sweetie. She is still solid, rattle and squeak free. We've owned GMC Yukon Denaili XL's, Suburbans, and Mercedes and can honestly say this is as close to an ideal SUV as you'll ever get. Although this is a 2006, this vehicle was ahead of it's time in that it has a lot of technical and safety features that are still current, up to date, and would be options on new vehicles today. Our particular problem is that I'm a petite woman married to a tall man so finding a SUV that "fits" the both of us can be a challenge - until we found the QX56. As this is "my" primary vehicle it was important for me to be able to get comfortable and have good visability. The QX56 has a ridiculous amount of seating adjustments that makes it possible for the both of us to get comfortable and thanks to the adjustable steering wheel and adjustable brake and gas pedals (!) it makes it possible for me not only to see over the steering wheel, but to have the necessary visability needed for safety and security. The QX56 is comfortable - there is more room in the front seats of the vehicle than the Yukon XL which is important for men with broad shoulders. No crampiness here! Sweetie combines luxury and versatility. We have towed with it, hauled kids with it, moved a sofa with it, picked up landscaping material-including shrubs and a tree, and everything in between. The vehicle is very secure on the road whether in heavy rain or snow. It handles snow like a tank, never sliding, always solid, and considering our driveway is up a hill, it's been tested! City driving, expressways, country lanes, or crowded parking lots - this vehicle handles them all with ease. Of course, driver visability is excellent. So the question is, do we purchase a 2015/16 or do we stay with "Sweetie?" After re-reading this, maybe we'll keep her for a while longer.

"Powerful engine but an endless money pit"

I love the design of this car but it only takes premium petrol. Now that’s ok but what I was not prepared for was the almost weekly repairs. Not reliable at all. Only buy this car if you want to keep spending on essential repairs as you try and keep it well maintained. All the parts are expensive and somethings are hard to find.

Massive People Hauler
Pros

Comfortable, roomy and powerful.

Cons

Fuel economy, chip-prone paint and rear shocks.

The '10 QX56 is a big people mover with tons of sophisticated features. The seats are like thrones and accommodate seven or eight easily. Climate control allows front and rear seat personalization and the sound system is fantastic, allowing downloading your personal library of songs. The navigation system is outdated however. The cabin is quiet, most controls are convenient and easily used, and there is plenty of storage and luggage space. The engine is powerful, tows easily, but uses premium fuel at an average of 15 mpg. Another couple issues: brittle paint that chips easily on the blunt front end, and an air shock rear suspension prone to failure, causing a rough ride and irregular tire wear.

Smooth and Quiet
Pros

Smooth and Quiet ride in comfort.

Cons

Gas mileage average 14.5 miles per gallon

Great vehicle. 3 row seats, lots of space, great family car. 4 WD, many amenities . Captain seats on 2nd row for comfortable trips. Only down side is the gas mileage you get for a V8 , but that is to be expected. Great traveling car.

Great truck! Pulls more than most trucks.
Pros

Comfort size and handling

Cons

Fuel cost

Not only does the things that trucks can do but also has great comfort and fabulous handling. A style that doesn't quit reliability that will always be there. Forget about German cars

For the money a GREAT SUV
Pros

better price than ugly Lexus, drives awesome

Cons

none!

This is actually my brothers car, 2004 QX with 107K that I am using for a week. I am comparing it my 2002 Lincoln Navigator. Wow, what a good looking (black with tan interior) SUV and POWERFUL AND FAST AT NEAR 400 LBS OF TORQUE! I am used to my Lincoln Navigator with about the same mileage and shocked by how much better the build quality, ride/handling, interior quality is like a Mercedes and level of power is amazing! Gas is expectedly bad but you don't buy these for MPG's. I am so impressed after a week of use I am now thinking of buying one! KBB prices show that you can pay WAY LESS than a Lexus SUV and for this year, 2004, way better looking than ANY other SUV, including my Lincoln or the Lexus. A very handsome masculine looking SUV with high quality materials, fit/finish on the inside with nice use of real wood, huge upgrade over my "plastic Navigator". I'm a "car guy" and it takes a lot to impress me but this is one NICE vehicle in every sense. Not 100% sure on reliability as just borrowing it from brother but I know he LOVES this QX!
