"Fun and excitment Q40 ride"

Unlike many mid size, sport luxuary cars that i have owned or driven in the past, my recently purchased 2015 Q40, is nothibg but pure fun with feeling the quality and saftey with confidence that bring about while driving the Q40. I enjoy driving this car with its high powerfull respond and manouver capability which bring me nothing but pure joy driving it while feeling safe and in control. What gives me more pleasure is that designe, elegance and simplicity of this vehicle yet it maintain such a nice class with elegant interior. I just hope thag I do not get an moving citation. If I new this vehicle would have brought me back such a fun and excitment driving it with comfort, I would have purchased it much earlier. I know that i will enjoy havig to drive my new Q40 with all it offers including safety and quality and confidence in driving and look forward to upcoming new Q60. I know thag my next car is also going to be Infiniti.

"Infiniti Q40 AWD causes tinnitus and hearing loss"

I bought this new 2015 Infiniti Q40 AWD on Feb 28, 2015. After driving this noisy car for three months, or about 3000miles, I started having ringing in both ears (tinnitus). It became more and more obvious after I drove this Q40, and I have trouble to sleep since then. I also start losing my hearing in both ears, especially for the low voice from a meeting in a group or in a noisy environment, or someone with bass voice in the phone. I have contacted Infiniti dealer in June 2015 when I noticed the tinnitus caused by the noise. They refused to take the car back with full refund and claimed that it’s normal car noise. I took my doctor’s suggestion to wear earplugs when driving this Q40 since then. After another 6 months of driving (total mileage is 10,000miles now), the tinnitus and my hearing didn’t get better, and it’s boring me a lot, both in my life and work. I contacted the dealer and the car maker again this month. They asked me to do a second road test and still claimed that it’s normal road noise. But this “normal” noise is killing me and I don’t think I can drive this car anymore. Because the dealer and Infiniti refused to help me with the problem, I did some noise tests and analysis myself, to figure out what’s going on. According to the result from Adobe Audition CC, a professional audio analysis software, the noise mainly from 100-400 Hz, that is the low frequency noise not sensitive to human being. This means, even if the driver didn’t hear the noise, the energy carried by this sounds will still go through the ear and damage the auditory nerve cells without immediate impact. The symptom is, you may not hear a loud noise (at 6000-8000Hz), but your ears are in the pain. The low frequency noise of this Q40 AWD carried much higher energy than another model made by Infiniti, the Q50, at this range. This indicates that the company has the technology and capability to reduce the noise, but they did not apply it to Q40 for some reason.  I am in the progress of negotiation with Infiniti regional affair manager now. Infiniti remains to claim it’s the normal noise, and because it not the defect on any part of the vehicle, they cannot repair it or give a full refund as I requested, neither the compensation to the health damage on me. With no concern on the fact that this noise already caused severe and permanent health damage to the customer, Infiniti refuse to recall the cars and investigate the potential harm of the noise to the customers. It’s always difficult for individual to negotiate and reach desired outcome with the big company. So far, total 8574 of Infiniti Q40 were sold in U.S. since Jan 2015 ( Infiniti sales stats: http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2011/01/infiniti-g-sales-figures.html, the sales dropped from 1000 to 38 by Nov. 2015 ). All these customers may suffer from the same noise. Some of them may have family members riding with them, including children. As a Ph.D. in Biology, I am aware that the auditory nerve cells are the only type of cell that cannot regenerate in human body. Once you lose the hearing, you lose it permanently. The public should be alerted that there is potential risk to drive this car, for both the current Q40 owners and the potential buyers. Sweet Sleeper

Infiniti's Q40 is simply a renamed G37. I believe it only existed under that name in 2015. In that year Infiniti renamed the G and put it at the entry level of their sport sedan line. Anyone who wants to know more specifics on the G37 can look it up on innumerable websites for enthusiasts and builders. You can find a wealth of info on its design, capabilities and common problems. The Q40/G37 has a wonderful 3.7 naturally aspirated engine that makes useful power from idle on up, unlike the 3.0 turbo motors in the Q50 & Q60. I have driven both, and while they make thrilling power above 3500RPM, they really do feel like a 4 cylinder Accord below that. Even the 400HP Q50 Red Sport felt lame at low engine speeds. But just tap the Q40's accelerator lightly and the 3.7 lets you know immediately that it’s ready and waiting. It gets 19.1 MPG (required premium fuel) by the dash indicator, but highway mileage can hit the low 30s if you stay below 70. Many online reviewers nitpick at the Q40’s “lack of technology,” but for me that’s actually a plus. I’m more interested in performance and comfort than gadgetry. Give me comfortable ride and a great stereo and I’m fine, as I’m an audio enthusiast. The stock Bose 7-speaker system sounds very good, though by “good” I mean accurate and balanced. If you’re younger than me and prefer very high volumes, you might need to add a few accessories. The environmental system is also wonderful… powerful AC and great air distribution including vents for the back seaters. Air noise well controlled at medium settings, and even at the highest settings is less objectionable than most. The GPS is competent for its time, though if you live in an area that’s had a lot of development in the last 10 years (mine has exploded), an update would be helpful. Quite expensive, but maybe worth it. Or you could just buy a Garmin for less overall cost. 😊 Most Q40s have AWD, but mine is RWD only. Again as an old schooler, I like that better anyway. You can still smoke the back tires if you want! Additionally, the AWD version will cost you an extra few hundred dollars, 200 extra pounds and about 1MPG of fuel economy… possibly a bigger deal considering the extra cost of premium fuel. Switchable traction control is basic but quite competent, and greatly valuable in the rain where the motor can easily overcome the available traction. All in all, the Q40 is a wonderful luxury sport sedan with a tad more emphasis on the 'sport.' Easily overlooked because of its ho-hum exterior design, it is nevertheless a comfortable and very fun drive. Well worth the money you’ll spend on it.

Fun car to drive
Pros

Great performance, Bose System, AWD

Cons

Not the best gas mileage especially in town.

I never get sick of driving this car even after owning it for 3 years now. It has great acceleration, a comfortable interior, great Bose system and AWD. Pretty much everything I was looking for in a car. I think it still looks classy given its age. It doesn't have all the tech that a lot of competitors do, but I do have navigation and I'm satisfied with that.

Fun car to drive
Pros

Amazing pick up, nice sound system

Cons

Not the greatest gas milage but acceptable

Had the Q40 for 2 years now. Was driving the Mercedes C class 2011 all wheel drive. The infinity is more fun to drive! Has amazing pick up. Have not had any repairs but am hoping since it has Nissan parts will be less expensive then the binz. Not seen as glamorous as the Mercedes but in every other way goes beyond. Nice car for the price. Happy with it and hope to keep for a long time. I have the all wheel drive and handles well in Kansas snow. If your looking for more bells and whistles inside the car might not be for you. Definitely worth test driving if you want a quality luxury car without the price tag and high repair cost. Hope this helps someone!

Best in class!
Pros

Performancy, reliability, handling, value

Cons

Suspension on the stiff side

I have owned three Nissan Maximas before purchasing this vehicle and it was a definite step up. While the Maxima is reliable, well made and fun to drive the Q40 is a jet fighter on wheels. The performance is incredible and that legendary engine is perfectly tuned and sounds beautiful. It uses the Nissan 370Z platform and engine so it retains that car’s rugged sporty performance but because it is an Infiniti it has all of the luxury bells and whistles expected from a car in this segment. This is a 370Z wearing a tux. For me the most important factor in a sport luxury car is the performance and I looked at all of the competitors from the Germans to the other Japanese offerings and no other car in this price range came close to offering performance on par with this vehicle. The reliability was another factor and while Lexus and Acura are also excellent in that regard, I found that the German competition is notorious for mechanical and electrical problems and these issues are very expensive to fix. My research led me to eliminate BMW, Mercedes and Audi from my list as they cannot compete with the Japanese manufactures in terms of reliability. The car corners very well and brakes will stop you on the dime. The ride is a bit on the stiffer side due to the Q40’s sports car roots and this may not appeal to everyone but I certainly enjoy it. It looks sharp and is well equipped. I am a music lover and an avid podcast listener so the Bose sound system is a favorite of mine. I also relocated to a new state recently so the navigation system was a must and is very easy to use and works flawlessly. The interior is made with high quality materials and looks very elegant. These vehicles maintain their resale value very well so that is something to keep in mind also. Overall, the amount of features and performance that you get for the very reasonable price makes this vehicle best in class. The ride is very smooth and responsive and the engine and performance are incredible. This is one of if not the best values in the luxury market.

Pros

reliability,elegance, comfort

Cons

can't find any

First Infinity was amazing with no problems and sold with 198,000 miles running great. This 3.7 liter is another great car but I miss the manual shift. Fortune has it I have a 1999 Porsche Cabriolet manual that,s fun . However, very expensive to maintain properly. My Porsche mechanic owns a Japanese car. HeHe

Best Bang for the Buck
Pros

Fun to Drive. Powerful. Stylish. Great price.

Cons

MPG. Center console space. Cabin noise

I fell in love with Nissan after driving my 3.5SE Altima for 190,000 miles. After I got a quote for $1,000 of repairs, plus knowing I needed new tires and the expensive 200,000 mile tune up - I started looking for a new car. I was sold on Nissan and wouldn't settle for anything less than a V6. The new Altima was nice, fast, but the cloth seats were just cheesy looking. The Maxima was expensive but also nice. It's price tag pushed me to look at The Q40, Q50, Lexus I and E series, Audi A3, and BMW 325s. The Lexus are just comfortable slow cars. I was bored with it during the test drive. The BMW and Audi dealerships nickel and dime you to $40,000 but also felt small - I'm 6'1" and hit my head on the ceiling and door frame. The Q50 felt sluggish, and handled like a boat. The Q40 made me smile - I have the AWD version and it's a fun car to open up, hugs turns, stops on a dime, and really lets you feel in control of the automobile. You'll have to find a used one or look into the Q70 to get something like this again. PROS: FAST!!! AWD Handling and stability is wonderful. Very little body lean. Seats are comfortable. Sound system is great. Materials are durable. Lots of features come standard with Navigation package: sunroof, dual power heated seats, voice recognition, dual climate control, bluetooth. CONS: MPG is depressing. The Voice recognition does not control climate system. No memory seats standard. No folding rear seats. No power steering wheel. My biggest complaint - the center console storage space is lacking - no good places for the junk you end up keeping there! The Engine and ride noise are higher inside the cabin than the Lexus E and Infiniti Q50, but probably why they were sluggish and handled like a chevy at best.
