Positive Review
SEL trim. Great value. You don’t have to deal with the con of the volume knob as indicated in the KBB review. Tons of nice tech features. The LKAS on Hyundai is the best I have yet to experience. Beats Honda hands down. The MPG is GREAT for city driving. You can easily beat the 37 estimate. I have logged upwards of 39 averaging between 35 and 45 MPH. Highway driving MPG is not that great. Over 25 miles of Interstate driving on my commute and I can only get around 35 MPG. Very comfortable and smooth ride for the budget. I haven’t ran greater than 4K RPM but it seems to have plenty of pickup when accelerating onto the interstate. The added bonus of Michelin tires probably helps the ride quality as well. Wish there was more soft touch areas in the SEL trim and the shiny black plastic around the infotainment system is not fingerprint proof but the overall sleekness and nice lines inside the vehicle are amazing. The room inside is amazing and with the rear seat reclining, your back seat passengers have little to complain about. The full length moon roof really opens up the cabin as well. My only other complaints would be the absence of an actual spare tire, the MPG rating for 65 MPH continuous driving, and the quality of interior materials could have been a little better. Big pros are the city MPG ratings around 45 MPH, the design and looks, the roomy interior, and the cargo space along with having a higher towing capacity than most of its competitors. It also seems to get a little more HP and torque than most of it competitors in this Small SUV class.
Critical Review
There is only a Tire Repair Kit- compressor and a can of spray gook! Possibly OK if you pick up a nail in the center of the tread but useless if: wife is alone with kids, rim is dented by a pothole, etc. or sidewall is damaged- if AAA is called they can only tow to some gas station or dealer- then what?! - especially if not in your home area! Hyundai cheaped out or was too lazy to figure this out— Aftermarket spare kits exist but don’t fit beneath rear floor- no reviewers cover this but it’s a critical safety feature that keeps me from putting my family in this car - pretty poor oversight and lack of warning.

Gas mileage is nothing close to the sticker rating. I typically average 31 mpg My car was gone for three months while they replaced the battery management system and the battery. The delay was waiting on parts from Korea. I had to do repeated executive escalations to get the parts. The bill would have been over 11k if it had not been covered by the warranty. I like the looks of the car. It is responsive and fun to drive. I would buy gas only in the future
Local driving, sport mode is awesome
Small tank and low mpg on gas only
12500 miles with no issues and about 59 mpg average to date. The KBB summary is accurate. Car is at its best around town and short trips—- that is much of our driving! Two negatives: winter uses the engine for heat so mpg goes down a bunch. For short drives we turn on the seat heaters and steering wheel heater. Second negative is long distances at interstate speeds. Mileage is disappointing, as low as 30 mpg. Many drivers would say hey that ain’t bad. But the local mostly electric is really great. So, I like consumer reports description that this is a niche vehicle. Fun thing- first and second gear in sport mode responsive and real quick. Artificial sound is a nuisance and when in reverse, the sound is real loud..
Lots of amenities
Engine failure at 9 months 24K miles
2024 Hyundai Tucson SEL Conv Pkg Catastrophic engine failure on freeway at 9 months and 24K miles. Beautiful car with lots of amenities. Just super unreliable. Had Hyundai buy back, took about 2 months with contant proactive calls to them every few days.
remote start, apps to unlock, lock, and start car, sleek, good gas mileage, comfortable, leather seats, heated and ventilated seats, AWD
auto on/off start
Two weeks ago, I purchased a used 2022 Tucson SEL Premium package, and I am thoroughly impressed with this vehicle. It offers an array of remarkable features, and I find myself discovering new ones each day. For instance, I recently learned that I can start the engine, lock and unlock the doors, and even turn the vehicle off using two different smartphone applications—a highly convenient capability. I got the premium package so it has all the bells and whistles possible. And it is Hyundai certfied. The only aspect I find less favorable is the auto stop-start feature, which shuts off the engine at stop signs. I would prefer not to disable this function manually every time I drive, as I am concerned that frequent engine restarts may not be ideal for the vehicle's longevity. Nonetheless, I deeply appreciate this car and fully intend to enjoy it for at least the next decade.
Several safety upgrades/ features from previous version.
turn signal lights on the bottom of vehicle (out of sight).
Turn Signal lights are on the bottom of the vehicle, below the normal "line of sight" and not in line with the brake lights. In my opinion, a reduction in safety awareness from the previous model revision.
Body Style
Performance/Transmission, just like the 2024 Santa Fe
Since purchasing my 2024 Hyundai Tucson SEL, I have had continuous issues with surging and interrupted power with the car. The 8 speed transmission can't seem to recognize what gear it should be in, "according to Dahl Hyundai in Lacrosse WI". After video taping issues while driving it, they still couldn't find anything wrong??? Because the computer shows them nothing?? I have had a technician ride with me where I demonstrated the issues. The technician mentioned a possible torch converter issue, but said I had to contact Hyundai. After contacting the claims department, and speaking to a foreigner, who I couldn't understand, I was told that Hyundai wasn't going to do anything about these continuous issues. I am now in the process of turning the case over to the Minnesota Attorney Generals Office. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CAR FROM HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY!!!!!! Pretty sad when I couldn't even speak to anyone that clearly could understand ENGLISH!!!!!!
Discovered this car while looking at other brands. I think it's one of the sharpest looking SUVs on the market and I love all the features. The ride is incredibly smooth and quiet and the back seat and trunk space are plentiful. I have the Limited model and use the volume and channel controls on the steering wheel and wipe screen with microfiber cloth each day to avoid a dusty/fingerprint filled screen. It's not super peppy but just peppy enough for around town driving which is mostly what I do. I've owned Hyundai's before with no issues and I really hope this one holds up just as well because I absolutely love driving it!
I would strongly caution against purchasing this vehicle. If you expect customer service on par with Lexus or BMW, this is not the place for you. I recently purchased a brand new 2024 hybrid Tucson, which has already experienced powertrain issues at only 1,400 miles. Attempts to reach customer service through Bluelink have been unsuccessful, as I was left on hold for approximately 30 minutes before being disconnected twice. The dealer does not guarantee the provision of loaner vehicles, so you should not anticipate receiving one if you need to leave your car for service. They (Chris, the service manager) are only willing to provide a 10-mile shuttle service, and any distance beyond that will result in additional charges or just dropping you off wherever the 10-mile limit is. I personally believe this 10-mile policy is unreasonable, as it would be more prudent for the dealer to absorb the cost of transporting customers a reasonable distance, rather than risk having an upset customer. Even with the extensive warranty options, the customer service at this dealership has been abysmal. I also want to caution against the practice of requesting "perfect" reviews from customers, as the sales manager (Joey) has been known to offer incentives such as free gas or floor mats in exchange for these positive reviews, only to cease all further communication. In my experience, the dealer did provide me with a ride home after I made a scene. That driver had a cold, he told me before getting into the car together. The next day, they loaned me a vehicle (without insurance paperwork, yikes!!!, just handed me the keys) from their lot while my car was in the shop for three weeks!!! awaiting a necessary part(s). However, the sales manager stated that "this was an exception and not their standard practice", he didn't explain past that. Based on these issues, I would strongly recommend considering a Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, or Lexus model instead, as they tend to provide a higher level of professional customer service. In summary, I advise against purchasing a vehicle from this particular dealer. If you really want a Hyundai, go to another dealership and get to know the staff before finalizing anything. "With the car you get the people...and the culture those people bring..." I filed complaint with Hyundai Motor America case number 23563551. Hyundai North America told me that they don't have any oversight over the dealers who franchise with them.
