Positive Review

"A somewhat mixed bag"

My 2020 SEL is my fourth Sonata in 10 years. Unquestionably my favorite was the 2017 Sonata Limited. I gave it a kiss on the hood when giving up the lease. New engine is very quick and responsive. Controls fall readily to hand. Tactile feel to the knobs. Headlights illuminate the night. Automatic high/low beam is very accurate. Hyundai gets everything right. Almost. My Hyundai app on iPhone is terrific in its features. But......passenger seat is not electric with result being it sits very low several inches below the driver's electric seat. There is no height adjustment. Center console desperately needs a bi-level shelf arrangement as was the case in my 2010. Everything from ballpoint pen to Altoids disappears into the black hole of Calcutta. Exasperating. Hyundai has eliminated the small clip inside the glove box door which held a ballpoint pen. Rear turn signals should be amber. Storage area ahead of console lacks a lid, which can be closed to hide wallet, phone, and etc. Push-button transmission cannot be shifted to a lower gear. I live in hilly Central Texas and use a lower gear to slow descents rather than riding brake. Give me back the old sport shift arrangement. Smart Cruise Control, Lane-Keep Assist are nothing but theatre. Difficult to learn and require close scrutiny. I cannot see my ever using them. Small overhead compartment to store sunglasses is no longer. Tire noise. Perhaps more sound deadening. On smooth surfaces, car is absolutely silent. For the sake of styling, rear seats are too low. Getting out of them is difficult.

"Looks like a Lexus or Aston Martin"

Nice car I just don't like the front grille. Hyundai should of kept the 2015 design. The 2015- 2019 models looked the best

Almost purchased

I had this 2022 Hyundai sonata sel plus for more than 3 years. It was the only car on the lot when there was a computer chip shortage. It’s a lease and will be needing to return it soon. In my experience, I had not had any driving problems but something else instead. It’s at almost 21k miles. Always kept up with the oil changes and they always rotated the tires. The weird thing that seems to be broken is the notification system about ice when there’s clearly no ice on the road. As much as I like the car, my insurance has gone up triple in those 3 years - due to the car being targeted as #1 for auto theft in my city. I also did have a problem back in the winter days where the car wouldn’t start after 3 days of not turning it on due to a snowstorm. Maybe that’s normal? Not sure. Eventually it did go back to normal on the third day. Just little problems like that. I also asked my friend who is a mechanic, which cars do they see most when getting recalls and Hyundai was up there. So I think it’s best if I part my ways when my lease ends. Especially after reviewing other peoples negative reviews about broken fluid injectors at 25k+ miles.

So far so good

I purchased the SE trim of the 23 Sonata in November 22. It was during the time when finding new cars was challenging, and I originally put a deposit on an Elantra, and I believe that car was due in within a couple weeks. In the meantime, I saw one Sonata that was due in sooner, the week of my birthday. It was available for purchase, and it ended up on the lot On my birthday. I saw it and knew I had to treat myself, trusting and liking that model more than the other. Almost 2 years later with just shy of 9700 miles, I've had no problems with the car. Twice I've driven it 1550 miles round-trip to Denver, and it's very comfortable, spacious and smooth-driving. The adaptive cruise control worked great, and I probably should've used it more often on that last trip to Colorado to prevent myself from getting a speeding ticket for going 85-90. The car was like a tank zooming down the highway, it was fun to drive long distance, and with no road noise and only the sound of music coming from my premium speakers I was in my own world until the flashing lights appeared I have no complaints about this car so far. One insignificant one might be that Hyundai allow the rearview mirror to angle up more, because I always pump my seat up as high as possible on any vehicle I drive, and when I look in the mirror, half of my view is the rear window and the rest is part of the rear seats/head rests. A shorter person or one who likes to sit lower wouldn't have that small problem. If that's my only complaint with a car that's about 2 years old, then, go buy one. Owners are griping about Hondas, Mazdas, and Toyotas, that they feel that they aren't as well made as they used to be. Frankly, I believe they're correct. All vehicles are going to have some type of quirk or problem. I can't think of anything bad about my Sonata. It didn't have a spare in it upon purchase, which I found out After I arrived back from my first Denver drive, but I ordered one, along with a jack, so now I feel better. I believe the SEL comes with them. There's so much bang for the buck with this car. The kumho tires are great. They're supposed to last 55-60k miles, and I'm sure they will The seats seem to have fabric protection on them and they're easy to wipe clean. I have the lighter colored material so that's important I've got to have rear-cross traffic alert with automatic braking as well as blind spot monitor and tire pressure monitoring, indicating tire pressure for each individual tire, and it's all standard equipment. I'm grateful for the long term warranty on these cars, along with free roadside for 5'years and maintenance for 3. Some mechanics claim that the engines are problematic in Hyundais. They claim that particles are getting into the oil, causing the engines to wear out Two things that I hope are helping my vehicle:: My dealership allows me to get an oil change annually, even if I only have 5000 miles in between changes, which I do, approximately. And, I only put top tier gasoline in my tank. Top tier helps keep the engine clean with the additives in the gasoline I don't just buy the cheapest gas. It has to be a top tier gasoline provider. You can find a list of them online. I could tell the difference in a former car when I switched. Better gas mileage, smoother ride, better performance The Sonata has been great, and even though I tend to trade for new cars frequently, maybe I'll keep this one for awhile Why get rid of something that you love?

So angry about my car.
Pros

Comfortable

Cons

Will leave you on side of road after spending mega $$$

At 37K miles I have had a fuel injector and the A/C fail - two major failures that left me in danger. Of course, the service depts at all dealerships in my cities are booked to the gills and none have loaners to give you. Hyundai is putting junk in these vehicles and charging through the nose for them - that is why their service departments stay so busy. I talked to a dealership service dept worker who more or less admitted this was true. STAY AWAY!

2022 Hyundia Sonata
Pros

Gas mileage and comfort.

Cons

Not sure electronics are going to hold up.

Nice ride. I thought it would be a smoother ride. Good gas mileage. There are a lot of electronics that could go bad, but that is with all cars now days. Car sits low. Could be a struggle for older folk. AC on driver side blowing out hot air. Passenger blowing out cold air. The car has been in the shop for 5 weeks with no time for repairs to be complete. Trading out for a Hyundai Santa Fe. Hope there are not problems with this with this vehicle.

Best 2024 Sedan
Pros

MGP, Interior Design, Outer Design, Tech

Purchased my 2024 Sonata in February. Looking at all of the sedan currently on the market for 2024, the Sonata was hands down the best looking for the price. Unless you're willing to shell out $40,000+ for an Audi or BMW, the Sonata takes the cake for being the best affordable sedan on the market. It out classes the Honda Accord with its interior design. As well as the Toyota Camry. I love this car and it drives just as good as it looks. The outer design is a big upgrade from the 2023 sonata's fish-mouth grill design. The Sonata drives great and is a quiet ride. Hands down the best car purchase you can make.

This car has had no problems since I bought it 2 years ago. None. It now has 90K miles on it and drives just as good as it did at 20k.
