Overall, I believe this car has been a good vehicle for me. I bought this GLS back in 2003 for $5500. I have had to repair/replace a few items such as a window regulator ($75), a rear wheel bearing/hub ($110), and a transmission input shaft speed sensor ($55), but other than that it has been a pretty reliable vehicle. I took the car to AutoZone when the check engine light came on and got the codes and researched online to decipher the most likely culprit. I bought all the parts online - except the hub- and I did all the repairs myself and I am not a mechanic. A lot of times, just stepping back and assessing the situation will serve you well in the repair process. The car runs smooth and is very quiet at low rpms. It has good power and acceleration for a small six and averages around 24-25 mpg combined. I like the exterior styling of the 2002 GLS. I call it a poor man's Jaguar :) It corners well (although it has a little more body roll than I like) and has a fairly smooth ride because of the independent rear suspension. The plastic used in the car is of decent to good quality. I have the leather option in my car and while the seats have good support the leather is of only fair to decent quality, but hey, considering the price I paid and what I can still get for this car if I sell it, this car has been a good investment. If I were recommending this car to a prospective buyer I would highly recommend spending a little more and getting the GLS model with the V6.

Critical Review
There is a safety recall on this vehicle due to corrosion on the sub frame when it is operated in the salt belt of the northern part of the US. Hyundai missed the opportunity to identify this safety issue several times and ensured me that it was safe to drive in. Days later, the wheel broke away from the sub frame while I was driving. Nearly a month later, the customer service from Hyundai has been absolutely terrible and I stand to lose a lot of money for an issue that I shouldn't have been exposed to as a consumer. Stay away from Hyundai vehicles.

I bought my 2005 Hyundai in 2009,I only had one problem with the brakes. Great car. This is 2023. Going strong.

Bought this one around September of last year at around 102K. This is my 3rd time owning the same exact car (1st was an 05 GLS 4-cyl, 2nd was a 05 GLS 2.7L V6), and I've got to say that it's well worth the $ for its reliability. 2.7L V6. It hasn't had a lot of problems aside from routine maintenance. Had to replace the starter
Extremely sought after body style

This auto looks like the 00 to 07 Mrecedes Benz C-Class with the Bubble eye. It is a near-luxe. Extremely sought after bubble body style. I think. A solid 5 Star rating. When new these wautos had Excellent warranty, pleasant highway ride, refined V6 engine, lots of storage space.

Love this car, routine and minor repairs over the years, original engine and transmission, gonna keep until a major repair needed, then will retire it. This is my spare car use it to drive to work and back every day 50 miles a day. Still going @340,000 miles!!!!

Excellent style spacious easy to fix yourself everything is pretty easy everything that you may have to fix is on top of engine
I love this car. It’s just the right size, has power and good gas mileage. My 3 grandchildren ride with me and they love it, too.
