Positive Review
I've had this CUV for about a week, very pleased with my purchase. Was originally looking at the smaller tucson then drove hondas crv and decided the space was needed. Went back to Hyundai and tried out the Santa Fe, one test drive and I was sold ! The difference between the two models was noticeable mostly on comfort and the cabin noise. Right now I'm getting good gas mileage and the ride is quite smooth. My only issue right now is backing up, as there is a few blind spots but going from driving a car to a CUV its something I'm sure I'll get used to. The steering wheel modes are neat, I wasn't sure I would use them really but I do notice a difference. Especially when parking in parking lots(the comfort mode works best) to driving on the highway (sports mode) I also looked at the Kia Sorento, as they seemed comparable, Santa Fe just has that added touch to it though.
Critical Review
After test driving many small SUVs, I purchased a 2014 Santa Fe Sport 2.4L. On the drive home from the dealership, I realized the engine was making a strange noise. When I called the dealership, they told me the engine noise was normal. I even took it in twice and they still told me it was a normal noise. It wasn't until I took the car in for an oil change 2 months later that they found metal filings in the oil pan and said they would replace the engine with a new one. Unfortunately "new" meant remanufactured in their vocabulary. After searching the Internet, I've found that others have experienced this same problem, so there is clearly something wrong at the manufacturer. Anyway, my gas mileage has declined considerably with the new engine and Hyundai is telling me to go through arbitration if I'm not happy.

Purchased used 2014 Santa Fe sport 3 yrs ago haand have been disappointed since I bought it. There have so many recalls . Had engine replaced in 2023. Due to recall. Lost power on highway at 70 mph. Very scary. I have maintained my maintenance schedule and now I've been hearing a noise, mechanic says bearings. Replaced all 4 . Still noise . Replaced brakes and rotors. Still not right. Now I purchased a fixed sensor and it is showing 5 different codes related to ABS major driving impact. Just starting to delve into this lastest problem. Very unhappy.
Up to 101k miles, I loved my '16 Santa Fe Sport. Fun to drive in spite of GDI 2.4 l engine. Pretty good gas mileage (27 in town, 31 on the road). But then at 101k, the engine failed 235 miles from home. Took over 2 months to have engine replaced because there were so many engine replacements ahead of me. Then it took 5 months to get reimbursed for towing and car rentals. Hyundai Corporate had every excuse in the book for delaying reimbursement. Finally I called the local Hyundai dealer, explained the situation, and told him I would be happy to park my vehicle at his dealership and tell people about Hyundai's engine problems and poor customer service. Got my money in a week. After researching Hyundai engine problems, I did not trust the new engine, and traded in my Sport for a new Subaru Forester Dec. 2023.
Comfortable, decent gas mileage, good trunk space
Engine, cheap parts
Comes down to an engine that didn't work to begin with and a replacement that was worse. 136,000 miles total - 100,000 on first engine & 36,000 on second engine. At 120,000 all the other parts started breaking. Couple that with other recalls (security, latches, brakes) and you live at the dealership. Don't even consider a Sport with mileage.
I bought this Hyundai set up a sport back in November of 2023 have had nothing but problems with it from the first so far it's cost me almost $3,000 for different things going wrong with it so I definitely would not recommend it too many problems and cost too much to maintain
Looks good
Isn’t reliable
I bought my Hyundai sante fa sport in 2018… I absolutely LOVED it! It Hit 50,000 miles and my whole hood starting peeling paint… had to pay out of pocket for that… THEN at 75,000 miles found out I had an oil leak, had to pay $1200 out of pocket to get it fixed just for the engine to blow not even 1000 miles later. I kept up with all my maintenance and have had nothing but problems.. hopefully the new engine will last at least a year. I definitely do not recommend getting a Hyundai… I would rather have a Honda or Toyota.. def learned my lesson.
There are none
They are trash!
Known engine issues! Hyundai is a nightmare. They sell literal lemons and expect you to eat the cost. Research please!!! Excessive oil consumption since 60k miles! Garbage
Don't walk away. Test drive this and I think you'll be glad you did. My next car will be another Hyundai Santa Fe sport.
Easy to find/enter the specific information necessary to complete the application. In my opinion the INSTANT CASH OFFER price arrived at by KBB is a fair value of my SUV. I completed this the morning, 3/10/23, I was headed to the dealer to pick up a new SUV, so I can't address any down side, if any, to the dealers acceptance of the offer as trade in value. Keep in mind, trading in your auto saves the sales tax, in the trade in amount, on the new vehicle cost.
