The Hyundai Ioniq 9 is a 3-row all-electric SUV that is slated to debut in 2025. We estimate it will have a maximum range beyond 300 miles.
The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 9 (formerly and briefly known as the Ioniq 7) will soon be among the first 3-row all-electric SUVs from a mainstream manufacturer. It not only will join the Kia EV9 on that forefront, but will share its platform, as Hyundai and Kia are corporate kin. That’s a good thing, because the Kia EV9 is a winner figuratively and literally, taking home our Best Buy Award for 3-row EV. Let the sibling rivalry commence, just as with these automakers’ respective 3-row gasoline SUVs, the Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride.
Many details about the Ioniq 9 are still under wraps, but based on our knowledge and experience with the EV9, we expect it to be offered with either one motor and rear-wheel drive or two motors and all-wheel drive. These setups in the Kia EV9 make it available with a minimum of 201 horsepower to a max of 379 hp and driving ranges from 230 miles to 304 miles.
There are other 7-passenger/3-row electric SUVs available, but they are all from luxury brands and costlier. Knowing what we know about Hyundai’s excellent craftsmanship and features set over the past several years, the Ioniq 9 could be a credible – and lower cost – alternative to models like the new Volvo EX90, Tesla Model X, and Rivian RS1.
Hyundai Ioniq 9 Price
We expect the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 9 to start in the mid-$50,000 range and cross the $70,000 mark when fully loaded. For reference, a base Kia EV9 starts at $56,395, including destination fee, and spans to over $75,000 for the top GT-Line trim.
Hyundai Ioniq 9 Range
Again, using the Kia EV9 as a reference, we expect the Hyundai Ioniq 9 to have a range between 230 miles and over 300 miles per charge. Hyundai has stated this forthcoming 3-row electric SUV will have fast-charging capability that allows it to go from 10% to 80% charged in around 20 minutes
Hyundai Ioniq 9 Release Date
The world premiere of Hyundai’s new electric SUV will happen in late 2024. We expect it will go on sale in the following months.
