Positive Review
I bought this car new and have loved everything about it. It has been very reliable. I park it outside and it has never once failed to start. This car still has the original battery. Repairs have been minimal.I have keep the oil changed and kept the fluids clean. The only reason I am thinking about letting it go, My friend is in need of a car, and I would like a newer model. I will buy another Elantra. My only reservation is that I WON'T GET ANOTHER CAR SO RELIABLR
Critical Review
One of the MAJOR problems with this vehicle is the fuel filter. I know I'm not the only one because I know people who own this vehicle. The fuel filter gets clogged, must be too thin, and causes the car to jerk and stall. The car runs great for a few thousand miles, and then problems. Over and over for the life of the car. Buy another car.

Great value and does all you need a car to do
It doesn't have the fastest acceleration and the engine thermometer already went out
I bough this car certified used at 3,000 miles after a dealership loaned it out to people who were having their cars repaired. I'm currently at 65,000 miles and I haven't had many issues. I did have to take it in to the dealership to replace the engine thermometer gauge but that was covered by the warranty. I do synthetic oil changes every 5k-8k miles. It isn't the fastest or the flashiest car but it gets you around quickly enough for $14,000 almost new it was a steal. Hopefully I can drive it to 200k miles and save on having to continually purchase new vehicles.
Best car I ever had, it's working like new, never a major problems, only regular maintance. Never ever will sell it, I bought a new one, but I will keep my Elantra forever.
Extremely high cruising speed. Low end torque.
Interior could not be reaphostered with leather.
Living in Uruguay, sometimes it's possible to find a car that has been babied all its life, like the one I bought. Being all original in like new condition, the car needed nothing other than some basic maintenance like the change of all belts, plugs, engine mounts, and all fluids, and paint polishing. Additional upgrades included Bose speakers and a nice digital amp for the stereo. Cruising effortlessly and quietly at 130/140 km/h is its strongest suit giving about it 14+ km/l. While I did pay $8,000 USD in 2021 for this one-owner car, it's an amazing classic with all the modern technology giving an excellent pride of ownership as my second car. My other car? 2009 Hyundai I30 with 2.0 manual. Both truly amazing cars with completely different personalities.
fold down back seat; over head carrier.
none
In 1998 I was 76, retired from federal service, a very busy volunteer--car used for pleasure--no long distance travel. Sole driver until 2009 when illness made me hang up my keys. Sat on carport (well sheltered) until 2014 when very reliable law abiding adult daughter borrowed use for almost a year. Again, sat on carport until I finally conceded that I am stupid to hang on to independence that I cannot take advantage of at the cost of 250 a month. After having several people show interest in buying my car, I decided to have it serviced to MVAs requirements for sale (including new tires)--costing almost 3000. Hurricane disasters require help. I will give to some worthy organization that will give to some person that needs a car to help him/herself and others in this time of crisis. I really would not want it to be sold to raise money when this wagon can serve the needy people in various ways of help. Hauling is a critical need. I also have 2 bicycles to donate along with car.
this is an old car. Mine is a '98 that I bought about 5 years ago. I've had to do brakes and replace the alternator. That's it. It runs really well. It's a tiny little tinker toy but it just keeps on running w/o any problems. doesn't leak or burn any oil. not a great looker but for cheap, dependable transportation I couldn't be happier. If you're sensible with your money, this is a smart choice.

Good Small Sporty Look
Doesn;t come in stick or in 2 door
I bought this car private and so far it hasn't failed me. It has a beautiful black color with a racing spoiler and racing parts. So far it has been very reliable but recently it has been giving me minor problems however it was driven really hard to begin with.
dependable, easy to fix and upgrade
interior is plain, not very pretty
The 1998 Hyundai elantra is a great car and runs great when taken care of like most cars. After owning the car for some time I got know it better see it in a new light. It might not look pretty and the interior is dull and plain, a few after market accessories makes it a lot better. Also it is very easy to work with when doing replacements and upgrades such as air intake systems and exhaust. There are not much to with an elantra but they are fun can be used as a fun project car. the car produces 130 bhp from a 16 valve 1.8 liter dohc motor that's decent but like stating earlier getting it up past the 200bhp isn't much of a task but even if you care much for going fast it comes in various models and transmission styles. It is a reliable car that takes you to point a to point b which most people now look for in a car. Used in good condition (STOCK) don't pay more than $1,700 but the car will last quite sometime.
