Positive Review

"Typical Honda-mostly excellent/ few shortcomings"

Have had multiple SUVs/longtime owner of 4Runners. Tried 2018 Honda CRV. Not pleased with CVT transmissiom or size. Bought Passport Elite. Excellent driveability/powertrain. Proportions right/great interior space without massive external dimensions. Technology good except clunky bluetooth and navigation. Good performance, braking, acceleration, handling. Visibility very good. EXCELLENT interior. It does all the important things very well. Would give it 5 stars except for average technology user interface

Critical Review

"Do Your Research"

Honda sells the 2019 Passport defective out of the box. The day after I purchased the 2019 Passport Elite the infotainment system froze (radio, navigation, phone connectivity, reverse camera, sensors, etc) and would not turn off even after the vehicle had been shutoff and locked. In fact, while frozen the dash remained illuminated throughout the night and next morning. At the direction of my salesman I brought the car into the service center where they rebooted the system and told me that the issue was fixed. The same issue has now happened 3 times in the course of a month and occurs about every other time I drive the car which is only on weekends. After opening a case with American Honda it turns out the issue has been known for several months and is unfixable. The "best techs in the country" told me that the car needs to be manually reset every time the computer freezes by going under the hood and popping 2 fuses. Honda has acknowledged the issue and continues to knowingly sell this vehicle with the audio defect while it is unfixable. Don't buy this car if you regularly want to be able to connect your phone to it, use the navigation, have a functioning reverse camera and other options work. Otherwise, the engine sufficiently propels the vehicle, it handles well and there is an abundance of cargo space. So although Honda is unable to provide a vehicle with a reliable radio, at least it drives well. I regret my decision to buy this vehicle and would recommend anyone thinking of purchasing this model to research the infotainment issues.

Decent car for decent price, quality, confidence
Pros

Balanced SUV for pavement with rare gravel roads.

Cons

stock 20' wheels are trash, lack of Hybrid

I consider this SUV as middle ground between 4runner and CR-V. Good size for city parking, drives good on highway and ok on fire-roads that is main reason I bought it to deliver me from Seattle to trailhead. 99% paving and the rest 1% gravel off-road. See no reason to buy 22-24 versions. Next my SUV will be hybrid as this passport consume 22.5 mpg. To newbies - the first upgrade you will desire is to have 18' rims instead stupid 20'.

Sturdy Comfy and Smooth
Pros

Roomy inside, quiet cabin, smooth ride, energetic

Cons

Fuel economy not the best

I really loved driving this car on long trips and in my city. It has a quiet cabin and has plenty of room everywhere. I like the simple dashboard and the clean lines. It has an amazing trunk so helping my niece move back from Bard to New Jersey was a cinch. I may buy this at the end of the lease. Obviously with a 3.5 engine the fuel consumption is high. I get about 18 mpg. On the open road I was able to get 28 which is good. So if you don’t mind paying a bit more for fuel; it is a great option. The car has great apple play system. Overall it has been my favorite Honda product.

autostop/start faulty

Bought a 2020 brand new and had no issues until just under 3 years. My battery died at a stop light with oncoming traffic after the auto start/stop did not restart! I could not even put the vehicle in neutral to move out of traffic. This caused undue wear and tear on the battery and they have not got a fix for it. Honda disappointed me on this one. The less electrical parts the better!

Great suv

I have owned two of these and have a 2022 Passport Trailsport and love it. I have never had a issue with any of them. Had a couple minor recalls that was took care of quickly when took to dealership. Gets 25mpg on the highway. In town I wished would get a little better but it is a v6 and pretty much a full size vehicle.

Great value

We think this is a great SUV. We hope we can purchase it after our lease is over. Sure is not the strongest OFF Road Truck but it is not our reality. It is super comfortable, has all the + required bells and whistles, handles perfectly for our needs and has all the room and engine when things get tough.

A snappy ride with great handling
Pros

Comfortable and reliable

Coming from a 2016 Porsche Macan S most recently, and a 2006 Land Rover Range Rover L322 before that, we were hoping for a combination of the two vehicles, and this Passport Elite does not disappoint. It has paddle shifters like our Porsche did and a better ride than the Porsche and handles not quite as well, but very very good for being a taller vehicle than the Macan. The interior is spacious, and the seats are very comfortable definitely more comfortable than either of our last two vehicles, which is saying something. It’s a solid car and has a good deal of cargo capacity for how long it is (referring to the fact that this is shorter than the Pilot, so easier to park / a better choice if you don’t need a third row). We get 20 miles per gallon on the freeway/road trips, with oversized A/T tires, so perhaps you will get closer to 21 or 22 miles per gallon with the stock tires/wheels.
