Positive Review
I live where it snows, floods, land slides, quicksands, and generally gives your car a work over. Only really needs routine minor maintenance. My passport has needed intense maintenance only maybe 10 times in 12 years. Has never let me down and has saved my life. I have camped in it, crossed the country, driven to the highest and lowest points on the map in a 2,000 mile diameter and always been comfortable. It is all-around the most excellent car I've encountered. Driving through a 3 foot river before we are trapped in the back country: made it. Crossing the Mojave desert in a sand storm: made it. Spun out on black ice on the way into Yosemite Valley: made it. Climbing moon rock with 400 lbs of speaker equipment: made it. Hauling fire wood up a soggy hillside at the ranch: made it. Love this car.
Critical Review
I was told by reliable mechanic everything under the hood was more complicated due to where everything is; therefore, repairs always cost more. Brake job range is $250-$300; mine was almost $500.

Quality Built, reliable SUV
MPG is nominal, Drivers Leg Room is Avg,
I've owned a lot of cars in my time, and they all have come ad gone, with the exception of one. My 2002 Honda Passport EX. At the time of purchase, I had previously owned a few other SUV's... a 95 Honda Passport, and a 98 Nissan Pathfinder. The Pathfinder was a real gem, so I looked into buying a new one first, then, compared it to a new Passport, and added a Mitsubishi SUV in the mix as well. For many reasons I did not like the Ford Explorer, Chevy Blazer or Toyota 4 Runner at the time and by passed them. The Honda Passport EX gave me the most equipment and value and the best competitive price (About 30k) and I went with it. I can truly say that I've not been disappointed. It's very well built, and still to this day (2024) has allot of the original main components running the vehicle. I just replaced the original radiator on it back in February (and its 22 years old now. The alternator, and water pumps, along with the Serpentine Belt had to be replaced. It has 4 Oxygen sensors, and 2 of them have been replaced. It was equipped with a 8 Speaker Bose Cassette, CD, AM/FM Sound System that was great. I replaced it about 5 years ago with a Touch Screen AM/FM, CD, Back-up Camera Nav System, and the original 8 Speaker System still purrs like you are at a live concert. I've kept it for the long haul for two basic logical reasons. I Own a Boat and a Camper. The Passport handles up to 4000 lbs. and it pulls both effortlessly. I also have a general trailer for runs to Lowes & Home Depot and for taking the Riding Mower to the shop for tune ups and the Passport is my trusty work SUV. From 1-5 years there were no issues with the Passport, then from 5-10 years, just a few minor things. As I looked at new SUVs and saw 45 & 55k prices I quickly said to myself. If it ain't broke, why fix it. Why take on another 5 or 6 years of new car payments or a lease (and you have to give it back) when nothings wrong with the Passport. So there you are. I was paid for in total in 2008 and I've been driving it "Car notes" free since. 22 years later now, and I'm still driving the Passport. The Drivers Leather Seat has some serious wear right next to the door, and I had to apply some very good leather patching which blended in pretty good. The rest of the interior is still in good shape. But aside from that its still running good, and looking good. The Dealer added a special 10 year guaranteed Premium Paint job to it prior to purchase and the original paint still waxes up with a nice shine. I've always washed and cleaned it up on the regular, kept the oil changes & tune ups to date, so it looks, rides, & drives fantastic. If there was a negative to mention. The gas mileage on the Passport (V6 Auto.) is nominal. City/Highway combined and I'm filling up from E after about 275 miles of range on a 17 Gal Tank. Straight Highway driving and it's about 300 miles. Neither are anything to brag about but I only drive it a couple days a week so it works for us. Also, I'll add in, the leg room for tall drivers. I'm 6'2 and it really doesn't have stretch out comfy leg room for me. It's just at the limit where I'm ok. My wife and I also drive a BMW 3 Series and a Kia Soul and both have far more leg room to stretch out comfortably for tall drivers. All n All... the Passport has been a true gem for me. Performed well, handled all of the tasks thrown at it, was quality built, required minimum upkeep and it is still going. After 22 years of ownership, I have no plans of replacing it anytime soon.
Great Suv fun I don't have any issues take every where good in snow weather very reliable i have 22 year with my honda and still running strong
very reliable, very comfy, good in snow
body is kind of flimsy, doors wont close right
I own this car since 2012, and i run it into the ground by neglecting the up keeps, but still it's 2022 now and it's still running like a champ on maybe 3 or 4 cylinders now, and leaking oil and transmission fluid but still it keeps on rolling. I love this car and it's the Best vehicle I've owned. The mileage on it is over 200000
It was fun to drive when newer.
The frame rust was unsalvageable, had to part out
I bought the car when it was fairly new. Brakes were $800, engine work for leaking gas in the engine area (probably why I was getting horrible mileage for quite a while) was $2,000. After the 2,800 or so the frame broke in 2, it is actually an izuzhu. I couldn't believe the mechanic let me put that money in the last year and I had to sell it as a junker. There were many more problems like stabilizer bars broke from rust and other items related to rot. Stay away from this vehicle. You tube it if you don't believe me.
Fun to drive
Gas mileage
I just sold this vehicle and really regret it. It is my all time favorite, and I've owned over 50 in my time.
Powerful, fun, and engaging
Loud engine, and low gas mileage,
Owned this vehicle since we first bought it in the early 2000's. It has served well, and is one of our best vehicles we have owned. It's had very minor issues. Some of the issues are things we caused due to not being used to an suv, but is worth fixing. I love the rugged look, power, and decent reliability. A little low on the torque but not bad. Iv'e loved this vehicle so much I fix things myself when I can, they just don't make them like they used to. Note: Those seeking to buy one of these trucks should know about these things... Before winter always scrape, and spray surface the frames, salt tends to rust them out like the toyota tacoma trucks, check frames before buying this suv. Oxygen sensor cleaner and throttle body cleaner will need to be applied about once a year, These suvs tend to get build up easily as they age and won't idle properly. Overall very inexpensive easy fixes.
good car, good price, pass inspection in April
need minor repair
Engine light some times is on, and some times is off. It also needs repair of the windshield wiper linkages(cost about 169). All other part in very good conditions.
Great engine
Horrible gas mileage
I travel and lived in much colder climates recently. After ten days of subfreezing weather, my Passport started first crank. I put very little money into this vehicle and it ALWAYS started first crank. The Isuzu engine in this thing is it's best attribute. It's not very comfortable and the gas mileage is horrible. I performed it's function well for fifteen years. Who can ask for more?
