The Odyssey is a Kelley Blue Book favorite, our Best Buy and 5-Year Cost to Own minivan winner for 2019. This Honda also is the best-selling minivan in the U.S., with good reason: The Odyssey delivers a family-friendly driving experience that’s hard to beat.
It looks good, it has a highly functional interior, and it’s available with lots of modern safety features. Sure, the Chrysler Pacifica and Toyota Sienna offer similar room and power, but the Honda’s long-term resale values reign supreme in the minivan category. While a Dodge Grand Caravan costs less than the Odyssey, it doesn’t have the Odyssey’s advanced safety features.
2020 Honda Odyssey pricing starts at $21,265 for the Odyssey LX Minivan 4D, which had a starting MSRP of $31,910 when new. The range-topping 2020 Odyssey Elite Minivan 4D starts at $29,646 today, originally priced from $48,540.

While we can’t compare the Odyssey’s ride and handling to a car, it is as responsive and controlled as many crossover SUVs, and that’s saying a lot considering its voluminous design and large size. The Odyssey’s 3.5-liter V6 is strong and silent, with great pulling power and nearly imperceptible shifts from the 10-speed automatic transmission.
The Odyssey barely breaks a sweat at highway speed, which helps it return an impressive 28 mpg on the highway. Our recent long-term experience with a 2018 Honda Odyssey Elite version revealed a smooth and confident ride, together with a hushed interior, plenty of room in all three rows, and some of the most advanced driver-assist systems offered on a minivan.
RELATED: Best Minivans of 2020
Besides being packed with practicality-enhancing features and technologies, the 2020 Honda Odyssey boasts a high degree of fit and finish that transcends the typical soccer shuttle. All the requisite cup holders and cubbies are in place, and the quality of materials is high. We also find the interior design to be both smart and pleasing.
The Odyssey dash (all but the entry-level LX) features a digital gauge cluster and a big 8-inch touch screen. Also, all models except the LX have standard Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, which we use regularly and find very helpful. Also convenient is a large center console on the floor between the front seats. It’s perfect for a wide variety of items like maps, facial tissues, baby wipes or even a pair of binoculars that might come in handy on your next road trip.
The LX is a 7-seater; all other Odysseys seat eight. Two adults and a child can fit in the Odyssey’s third row, which flips and disappears almost magically into the deep cargo hold for added storage space.
Unchanged visually for 2020, the new Odyssey remains an attractive minivan with handsome sculpting on its hood and body sides. The roofline is lower than a Honda Pilot’s, which makes this family-friendly Honda look a bit more like a wagon than a van. The Odyssey Elite, the top model, boasts 19-inch alloy wheels, power-folding exterior mirrors, LED headlights and more, while the base LX gets 18-inch alloy wheels, halogen headlights and rear privacy glass.
MAGIC SLIDE SEATS
For added convenience, the Odyssey’s 2nd-row seats slide fore and aft or side to side. This allows siblings to sit in one row while the Odyssey maintains a convenient central path to access the rearmost seat. For improved access to an infant in a child safety seat, the Odyssey’s center seat can be moved all the way forward.
HONDAVAC
It may not be new, but the onboard vacuum in the 2020 Honda Odyssey remains as convenient as ever. Available as standard equipment on the Touring and Elite versions of the Odyssey, the HondaVac makes quick work of spilt Cheerios or Goldfish crackers.
All 2020 Honda Odysseys have a 3.6-liter V6 engine, a 10-speed automatic transmission, a push-button starter, power front seats, automatic climate control and rear privacy glass. With the EX and above, a healthy dose of additional high-tech hardware becomes standard. This includes lane-keep assist, active cruise control, a blind-spot system and automatic high-beam headlights.
The Odyssey EX (and above) features room for eight, Magic Slide 2nd-row seats, power-sliding side doors and an 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system.
The 25th Anniversary Package, at $1,500, includes special emblems and doorsill trim, along with a 25th Anniversary smart key, a rear bumper protector and chrome trim on the doors and roof rails. This new package also includes chrome-finished 18-inch alloy wheels. The same 25th Anniversary Package with 19-inch wheels costs $1,800.
All 2020 Honda Odyssey minivans are powered by a direct-injected V6 engine that sends 280 horsepower to the front wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel. This smooth engine runs fine on 87-octane regular unleaded gasoline. Fuel-saving Idle-Stop is standard for 2020, but the Odyssey’s EPA fuel economy has not changed for 2020.

Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
This system, standard on Odyssey EX and above, automatically gives the Odyssey driver a visual and audible warning if it senses a possible collision with an oncoming vehicle or a pedestrian. If the driver does not react, CMBS will apply the brakes to possibly avoid the accident altogether or lessen the severity of it.
Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)
This system, a part of the HondaSensing Safety Suite and standard on the EX and above Odyssey, uses a forward-facing camera behind the rearview mirror to determine if the van has crossed lane markings and may be leaving the roadway altogether. RDM, which can apply the brakes, functions between 45 and 90 mph.
Land Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
Similarly, LKAS uses a forward-facing camera to determine if the Odyssey is beginning to move away from the center of its detected lane. If it is, a message appears on the dash and the steering wheel vibrates slightly. LKAS functions between 45 and 90 mph.
