Positive Review

"Good Value"

Purchased the vehicle new. Be very careful about the vehicle's transmission, made the recall but now notice a slipping. Also my check engine lite and the TCS light comes on frequently. The Honda dealer is very expensive with repairs. Vehicle is also very noisey on the road. This model was one of the first to be manufactured in Alabama.

Critical Review

"3rd transmission @ 101K miles"

Don't get me wrong. I love my van and it is a pleasure to drive, but i would now call it a lemon. Honda replaced the first transmission after 40k miles free of charge. Since we are a Honda family and always have been happy with the brand + their excellent reputation, I assumed this problem was fixed and was looking forward to drive this van for the legendary 200k + miles Hondas are famous for. Now, at 101k miles, the check engine & TCS lights came on. Had hubby take van in; dealer ran diagnostics for $90 and says: need new transmission for $3,300. Hubby said: "no thanks" and drove it home. I called my regular service adviser at the dealership and she was astonished to hear that no offer of "free replacement" was made. I brought my van in the next day. Now it was more like "I'm sure we can do something for you". They would have to talk to American Honda (AH). 2 days later they reported that AH was offering to pay 50% on a rebuilt transmission. Anyway, somehow the price was set at $1300. I said: "NO, we shouldn't be having this problem in the first place". They went back to AH and now we are at $1024 for the tranny with a 3yr/36k warranty. I am willing to pay $500 and just consider it very expensive transmission maintenance / or insurance, since given the Honda track record on this, it won't be the last tranny I'm putting into this van. I finished my negotiations with Honda yesterday... ended up calling American Honda because the dealership service wouldn't go any lower. End result: I'm paying 25% of the bill which is $630. At this point the car has been at dealer service for nearly 2 weeks and I need it back! Otherwise, I would not have taken the offer. I am the original owner, have never abused the car, and have had all my service done at the dealership. This has left a very bad taste in my mouth, and has ended my 20-year love affair with Honda. I have 3 young adult children that have watched this from the sidelines. They would have been lifetime Honda buyers, but are surely looking at other brands now. I wonder if Honda thinks $630 are worth that.

A Great Old Mini Van
10/28/2024
Great car, owned since new.

This old Honda compact van has served us well for 25 years! It now has about 140,000 miles on it and has been no trouble. Hauls a lot of stuff! Finally going to turn it loose. We figure with good snow tires and wheels, it's worth about $2500.

210,000 miles
Pros

Loved it for many years . Still do 23 years old

Cons

Trade in very low with high milage

My 2000 Honda Odyssey has 210,000 miles on it. Has had maintenance required and check engine lights on for three years. But it runs great ! I drive it everyday. The Honda dealer in Billings Mt. Offered me $200 for trade in two years ago.

Reliable van

The 2003 is the 1 out of the first 4 models of the 2000's Oddyseys that has a reliable transmission, and avoids a lot of expensive parts

Pros

I enjoy driving my car .

Cons

no it was quit one.

My Minivan is a great car it is just that it is older now 2002, i have had my van for a long time and if they had not stolen the Cadillac converter my car would not be up for sale. my car was running good. it was good on gas with the prices up. so i have to say it is far because of the parts being taken. Thank you

Excellent Car, But...
Pros

Spacious interior, easy to drive

Cons

Needed new transmission at 105k

Overall, this was a great car for our family. We bought this car when our kids were 6 and 3 and owned it for 18 years (and are about to finally let go of it). I'd give this car a 5-star EXCEPT the transmission went out at 105k miles (5k miles just beyond the warrantee). There was a recall on many 2004 Honda Odyssey transmissions, but our VIN wasn't covered by the dealer in the recall... so we had to pay $4500 for a new transmission. The good news is that the vehicle has lasted for another 150k miles beyond that with no transmission issues since. Hence the 4-Star (and not 5-Star). We love Honda Vehicles (own a 2018 Pilot EX and 2019 CR-V EXL.

I spent majority of my life with this car!

My mom got this car first around when i was 4 and we only just now got rid of it almost 14 years later. All of my Milestones were spent in this Van. Its reliable, Long Lasting, and has plenty of space. If i could get this car again i most definitely would!

Great Van from the early 2000's
Pros

Fun to drive

Cons

Gas millage

So I had this van since 2018, initially bought for work, wasn't going to keep for the long run. However, I found out that actually this van is better than many new vans today in some aspects. The engine is the best, and the interior quality, especially the leather seats, really good quality, way better than many today's car. Space is really good, power sliding doors, V6 VTECT engine. Classic design. Only issue is that the relay might cause battery drain, and also transmission jerky under some condition.
